The RetroFit Tread Kits by House of Forgings are the fastest, easiest and most affordable way to remove carpet and add hardwood treads to your staircase.

Our RetroFit Treads thickness is sized specifically for this type of remodel. Removing carpet and adding hardwood without a RetroFit tread will require completely re-framing your stairs to meet code. This is why we are the industry leader in this type of project with our RetroFit Tread Kits.

To install, simply pull up and remove your carpet and padding. Remove the top board that your carpet used to sit on and install a new board (usually 2×8 board is require. Always measure your stairs and compare with our measurements before you purchase as not all stairs are the same size. No standard size stair exists.) Cut your RetroFit Treads to size (may not be required for all jobs). Using construction adhesive, glue down your treads and risers. Sand and stain / paint.

The treads are 10.5 inches from the back to the front of the nosing. From the back of the tread to the start of the trim is 9-5/8″. The Riser its 5/8″ thick. Consider these measurements when deciding if these will fit your stair.
