theyâll ship them all like this from now on
This was shipped by Amazon it its original box only. When it arrived I saw a big gash on the box. Sure enough, when I opened it there was a major dent in the rim of the firebowl. I immediately called the manufacturer, because the instructions say to call them first before returning it to the retailer. Well they told me to go ahead and contact Amazon for a replacement. I did the return online and it came today. This time the box was placed inside another box with some paper stuffing to protect the inner box. When I opened the box there was no damage. Hopefully, theyâll ship them all like this from now on.This firepit works very well and puts out a lot of heat. The key to getting maximum heat is to make sure that you scatter the small rocks at the very bottom of the bowl. When you start laying the large rocks, do not set them too close to the gas ring. You donât want to obstruct the holes at all. This will allow the flames to cascade around the larger rocks creating a high flame of 4 – 10 inches. If you let the rocks get too close to the holes the flames wonât be as high. The key is to create a circular tunnel of large rocks over the fire ring.Another bonus is the plastic cover that comes with it. The instructions say to keep it out of the rain and to put it away during rainy weather. Well, Iâm too lazy to lug it into the garage every time it rains. When I put the cover on it I was surprised that it covered the whole thing, even the flame-shaped holes on the side. You definitely donât need to move it inside when itâs raining once the cover is protecting it.I wasnât keen on the aesthetics of a 20 lb. propane tank sitting out in the open so I also got this deck box to store it in. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00013BUW8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1I had to cut out a circle in the bottom so that the tank would fit since the tank is too tall. Now I have a nice looking storage box to house the tank and also to serve as a nice side table. Thereâs enough room inside to store the firepit cover, a cushion or two, or whatever. Thereâs a small gap between the bottom and the patio for the hose to fit into so that the hose threads up through the bottom, which you have cut out, and into the tank.Overall, an awesome fire pit. I used it on Thanksgiving night for several hours and didnât see the gauge on my tank move very much.Update 9/2/15: Still loving this fire pit. I replaced the light weight l lava rocks with regular red lava rocks from my local rock/masonry supplier. Very cheap way to go and the rocks will last forever unlike the ones that are supplied. I’m also adding a picture of the Rubbermaid Brute 44 gallon trash can lid which I use to provide a solid rain cover. It costs only $16 right now for the black one. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005KD0U16/ref=mobile_oh_details_?ie=UTF8&psc=1#

Great smokeless fire pit!
Bought the 883 Mega Outdoor version.Included: Comes with cover, lava rocks, and propane tank ring set the tank on which keeps it from tipping over or moving around thereby scraping up flooring or other surfaces.Pros: I like the 10′ long LP hose that’s attached to the unit keeping the tank a safe distance away. Screws into the tank easily as well. The lava rocks heat up in 3-5 minutes and this beast puts out some really nice heat once the rocks are hot. I had to adjust the flames to minimum and back away from it a few inches after the rocks were hot. The bowl is fairly low to the ground ensuring the heat is distributed at optimal height.Cons: None really. The only note I have is that since the bowl itself is 3-4″ above the surface, you might want to setup the fire pit on a non-flammable surface. I bought a 30″ silicon mat designed for fire pits to rest on because I use mine mostly on a wooden deck. This gives an added layer of protection which can be argued as not needed. However, due to my background, safety is paramount when it comes to starting fires around or near flammable materials.Summary: This fire pit is a great alternative to a wood burning version. It produces enough heat for 4-6 people sitting around it. Similar to other reviews, this will be an easy addition to carry along on a camping trip, RV’ing, or an evening on the beach. I highly recommend this item if you’re looking for a smokeless alternative that’s very easy to setup and carry along on an adventure!

Just like a wood campfire without the smoke!
As others have mentioned, I am a wood campfire kind of guy and in the past I would have never considered one of these. That being said, I was complaining to my buddy that I was certain that the county I hunt in would enact a burn ban just days before bow season was to begin. He raved about the Firebowl and said he was certain that I would appreciate it in place of a wood campfire. I was a bit skeptical but the thought of hunting and camping for 2-3 days without a campfire was depressing and took away some of excitement associated with opening weekend. I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the largest unit and it was delivered quickly and intact just two days before the season was to start. Sure enough, the county issued the burn ban that I feared so I was relieved that I had made my purchase. Reading the fine print on the burn ban, personal propane BBQ’s were allowed. Between that and reading other reviews on how this gets around campfire bans in the mountains, I figured I was within the law.The first night of the hunt I started the Firebowl and just as my friend had said, the Firebowl produced a beautiful flame, provided heat for warmth and cooking dinner with no issues. I have run the unit on low for several hunts for a total of 6 hours or so with no noticeable weight change in my propane tank so it will be easy on the fuel I expect. Another big plus is there is no smoke which is a big deal to me being mindful of odors. And of course, when you turn it off, it’s off and cools down quickly. I place my Firebowl in the fire ring normally reserved for a wood campfire as shown in the picture above. I probably won’t go back to a wooden fire after this experience. I highly recommend the Firebowl.

Durable
Have had this since 2017 and it’s been great. It sits coveted outside in the snow during winter, starts right up always. I take it camping for all the sites with fire restrictions. Just a great little fire pit

Who would make a great product to replace wood burning fire pits during a summers worth of fire bans. A company in Surrey BC built the perfect efficient alternative to wood burning fire pits and I was impressed with the quality of the product and the amount of heat and realistic flame this unit produces. We can use it anywhere, anytime and light enough to toss into the vehicle and bring along on picnics, day trips and of course our camping. No more carrying large amounts of wood, or dealing with smoke and sparks. This fire pit looks realistic and with all the accessories you can buy to enhance your experience it is well worth it.This unit comes with 10â of hose which rolls up and sits on top of the bowl and a nice waterproof, fireproof cover that conceals everything for transport. We absolutely love this fire pitâ¦Made In Canada, to combat the fire bans we have to endure every summer!!!

Exceeded our expectations. We used this in the middle of the bush during a fire ban with no issues whatsoever. If used correctly you can make one 20lb tank last you at least two evenings, burning steadily on low/medium. Throws a ton of heat, even after you turn it off as the rocks will continue to radiate for at least another 30-45 minutes. We made percolated coffee and smores on this as well, however I wouldn’t reccomend cooking anything else as it does leave a minor propane aftertaste with food. As to be expected though.Looking forward to using this again and again, it is very sturdy and comes assembled. It just requires you to arrange your lava rocks a certain way but overall very simple to transport and use. What a wonderful product!

As we pulled this out for the first time this year we realized this will be its 6th summer. I love it! Works as well today as it did the first time. Has given us many evenings of enjoyment each summer. Cannot fault it as all. Great product. Highly recommend!

Have had this unit for a few weeks, assembly was simple, including conversion to NG. Initially flame looked more like my gas stove, very blue, not very aesthetically pleasing (see pics). While this is a very good combustion setup of air to fuel, I wanted the more orange/yellow look, similar to my 2 indoor gas fireplaces. Easy fix, just loosen screw and close air intake screen just behind control knob. This also reduces the sound of rushing gas. Note, this is for NG conversion only.It really is a good unit but doesnât give off as much heat as youâd expect, so Iâve ordered a vertical patio heater to supplement.Dislikes:- cover looks great, fits well. It is NOT waterproof. Weâve had lot of rain in recent weeks and rocks became saturated. Canât imagine this will be good when temperatures start to freeze. So an alternative is imperative.- Pricing! Originally saw this unit for $197. Discussed with family before buying, an hour later $214, which I payed. Couple days ago a friend said heâd be interested in buying one. I sent him info last night, listed at $185. This morning itâs $189?Called Amazon Prime cs, couldnât wouldnât do anything. I literally have to order lower price unit and return the higher price one. No cost to me. Makes no sense but I save $30 or 15+%. And someone will be out a lot of shipping $$$. And sadly I wonât even take the new one out of the box, just stick the return label and take it to PO.If Outland reaches out to me on this, Iâll be happy to revise this review. Stay tuned…

Likes – decent size, well made, not crazy heavy so it is easy to move around. Good value for money.Dislikes – like all propane fire pits, it can be a gas hog. I really haven’t found anything to complain about.Normally it sits in my yard and FYI, we have synthetic grass – not issues with excess heat melting it even though it is sat directly on it.We take it camping (allowed when fire bans are in affect as there are no sparks) as it turns out, a bottle of propane will comfortably do a 3 day trip (3 hours each day average) and is about the same price as the wood you would buy in the camp grounds anyway.Big bonus, no mess, no building a fire from scratch. NB* like all propane fire pits get one of the BBQ Lighters… it does give a “woosh” when lighting it ðIt comes with enough Lava rocks that I suggest keeping one bag as a spare. They will crack and split over time and require replacement. We have used ours average of Twice a week over the last 6 months and haven’t had any issues. It comes with a cover, elasticated nylon with heat reflector on the inside. Let the fire cool completely before using it. One tip, I put a flower pot on the rocks and put the cover over it. Stops the rain from pooling in the cover.
