Great Alternative to a Garbage DisposalâEasy to Use and Perfect for Rural Living
Living in a rural area on a septic system means no garbage disposal, which I really missed. Itâs such a helpful way to cut down on food waste and keep the trash from getting smelly. The FoodCycler ECO3 has been a fantastic replacementâand even better, it gives me a byproduct I can use in my garden. The machine breaks down and dehydrates food scraps into whatâs almost compost. I say almost because itâs not fully composted yet. The output is dry and fine, but it needs to be mixed with soil or compost to finish the process. Still, itâs a great head start for anyone with a garden.Hereâs what I like:⢠Simple to use: I keep the bucket on the counter and toss scraps in throughout the day. At night, I pop it in the unit, hit one button, and let it run while we sleep. Couldnât be easier.⢠Low odor: The carbon filters really work. No noticeable smells during the cycle, and even the countertop bucket with its slightly loose lid hasnât been an issue.⢠Noticeable waste reduction: What goes in is significantly reduced in volume, and it feels great not filling up our trash can with soggy scraps.⢠Quiet enough: When itâs grinding, it sounds a bit like a dishwasher. Not silent, but not disruptive either. If thatâs a concern, it could easily be run in a laundry room, pantry, or garage.A few tips:⢠Be mindful of what you put in. Too many carb-heavy items like bread will run fine, but the end material wonât be ideal for compost. A good balance makes for better output.⢠If you have a larger family or kids that are producing more food waste, consider the 5L model. Weâre a family of four, but with two toddlers, the 3L has been plenty.Overall, this has been a great investment for our home. Iâve already recommended it to family members who are also moving to rural properties with septic systems. Itâs easy to use, clean, and genuinely usefulânot something I say about every appliance.

Absolutely the BEST!!!!
This composter is AMAZING. I was very reluctant to buy one of these machines because most brands have gotten only mediocre reviews, but this one doesn’t seem to show up in the reviews very much which is perplexing. This machine makes practically zero noise. It might make a little crunchy noises at the beginning of the cycle, but it is really not very audible. There has been no smell AT ALL. The only time I noticed a little smell was because it was due to change the carbon pellets which was until after about 3 months. (The smell wasn’t bad either.) Once the cycle runs, it turns into dry dirt-like remains that has a mild odor, but the odor is mild and smells like you cooked something. It never smells rotten and I then store those remains in a separate container which never smells. (I live in an apartment building and can only dispose of compost once a week.) This thing is truly amazing. Low upkeep and works like a dream every time. I have the smaller unit Eco3 and it works great for two people. A+++++++++

Great purchase. ð
Happy with the purchase as it cost less than another brand (Lomi) that i had previously considered buying; works quietly so I just turn it on during the night. There is a very slight amount of heat and very faint smell ( from the “cooking” of the compost) while in operation but overall great experience

My second compost machine, worth the money.
Does not dry as well as expected. Quiet, little odor and easy to use. A good way to reduce kitchen waste. The resulting compost adds to soil quality.

Does not work
I would not recommend this product. It malfunctioned the first time I tried to use it. The manufacterer has no phone number so you have to email with them to help problem solve, which is not efficient and was probably just AI.

It’s clean, it’s quiet, it’s cute, and it works better than I’d hoped.
We live in an apartment in Manhattan and have recently been strong-armed into composting. Unfortunately, the city’s infrastructure isn’t quite ready for the new laws…collection is only once a week and there’s a woefully short supply of bins. As I went out into the rain to our building’s bin with a dripping, gloopy bucket of compost that included a now-useless, half-dissolved compost bag and encountered a bin that was already overflowing with rancid food, I decided I was going to play the game differently. We have two adults and a kid and prepare fresh meals everyday. The Eco 3 has been perfect for us so far. The cannister is attractive enough to sit on the counter until it’s ready to be processed. Its capacity is about two (normal) days’ worth of scraps, it runs quietly enough that we can’t hear it from the next room, and the magic of opening it up after it has run is still a delight. It really does process everything we’ve thrown at it perfectly. A full (broken down) chicken carcass was no issue. Avocado and Mango pits were dust the next morning. Rotten/wilted salad greens we’d found in the back of our produce drawer didn’t create a rotten smell after they were processed. It’s amazing. Some items to know before you buy:1) It uses energy. If your goal is the greenest possible solution and you aren’t hooked up to green power, keep this in mind. It bothers me a bit, but since it uses about as much energy as a ceiling fan running all day I’ve decided to ensure those stay off to offset our footprint a bit.2) It emits humidity. Seems obvious enough, since that’s the main way it’s able to reduce the volume of scraps but we keep ours in a closet and have found we need to crack the closet door when we run it to avoid condensation on the closet walls.3) The size is appropriately small. I wouldn’t want anything bigger because I love the small footprint, but bear in mind that there are sometimes “big days” when it can’t handle everything. We’re part of a CSA and some of the veggies come with all their trimmings. If we get a watermelon and go through it, that’s a lot of material. When we have a dinner party with more than 6 or 7 people, food scraps can add up. When this happens, we’ve been able to deal with it by running it twice in a row, but I can imagine needing to compost some overflow the old-fashioned way after an especially large event. We’re very happy with the purchase and would absolutely purchase again.

Itâs amazing how much less our garbage is when we compost. Even more amazing how well and without any odour or sound, this machine turns our food scraps into compost for my plants and gardens.

I’m thrilled with the Food Cycler. It’s quiet and odorless and efficient. No more picking up compost all over my yard after raccoons have dined on my scraps once again. Peace of mind is worth it to me.

Parfait!! Jusqu’à présent tout va bien. Il ne prend pas trop de place sur le comptoir. Et tout mon compost finit en poudre. J’adore ð

Works great, very little smell. Very little to no noise. Update… motor went on it after 2 months and trying to get something done through food cycler is a joke. Been on emails to four different people giving them the same info. Then nothing….. they contacted again and now want photos and video.Good unit when it works , bad customer service. Unit thrown in garbage. Along with the food waste. Thanks foodcycler.
