Sturdy, Safe & StylishâPerfect Toy Chest for Busy Toddlers!
Weâve had this toy chest in our playroom for about two years now, and Iâm honestly impressed by how well it checks all the boxes.Sturdiness:Right out of the box, you can feel how solid this thing is. Itâs not flimsy particleboardâitâs actual wood, and it holds up to daily toy explosions from our 4-year-old. My son even climbs in and out of it sometimes (weâre working on that ð ) and it hasnât budged or wobbled.Ease of Use:Assembly was super manageable. Clear instructions, no missing parts, and it came together in under an hour with just a screwdriver. The cut-out handles on the sides make it easy to move if needed.Latches:One of my favorite things: the safety hinge! The lid has a slow-close mechanism that prevents it from slamming shutâtotal peace of mind when little fingers are around. It stays open at various angles, too, so you donât have to prop it up manually.Size:Itâs surprisingly spacious! We fit an entire zooâs worth of stuffed animals, a bunch of Hot Wheels tracks, books, and a soccer ball, and thereâs still room left. Great for keeping the floor from turning into a minefield of Legos.Weight:Heavy enough to feel durable and secure, but still light enough that I can slide it around if needed. Iâd say itâs the perfect middle ground.Color:The gray is beautifulâneutral but modern. What a life saver!
And when I say life saver, I mean it! My daughter would take her toy organizer bins and just dump them on the floor the moment my head was turned. It was always a mess and she was always falling and getting hurt so I knew I needed to upgrade! In comes the Melissa & Doug real wood toy chest. My biggest fear was pinched fingers and now that I have it all assembled and have been using it for over a week I can say with assurance, you do not have to worry about those sweet little bitty baby fingers being smashed. The safety hinges in the back are amazing! There is absolutely no way to pinch baby fingers in there! You also do not have to worry about the lid coming down and smashing their fingers either because the hinges in back will hold the lid upright whether there is a human or anything else there to support it. The lid only comes down when pushed down with intent. You do not have to push hard, it’s a very gentle close.I was really happy to see this was real wood and even has the smell of brand new, real wood! Like walking through the lumber yard at your nearest Lowe’s. Assembly was very easy. The only part I found a little challenging was getting the hinges mounted to the toy chest and lid because this is the last step of your assembly the chest has to be tilted just so, that way everything lines up and doesn’t over extend the hinges.I honestly think in retrospect, attachment of the lid would have been much easier to do if I had but the back brace/bar on before the lid getting attached. That bar will help you to keep the lid in the correct position to install the hinges!Bottom line: This is a very good sized toy chest sure to fit mostly every toy of even the most spoiled child. I recommend this for every age from toddler on up to about age 8 or even an adult would like this to hold blankets or anything you would like to keep tucked away for easy access and provide additional bench-style seating.

The toy chest is very nice, fairly easy to assemble and surprisingly roomy. The only reason I didnât give it 5 stars is because during assembly of one of the hinges the wood started to split and crack. Keep in mind there are tiny pre-drilled holes. All you need is a screw driver, and not much force. The first hinge and screws went on without any issues. The second one, the screw caused the wood to split and crack before it was even half way in. Thankfully the problem was contained to just one area of the wood. The other screws went in without any issues. It is still a nice toy chest.

Quality product from start to finish
Fantastic toy box! Iâm not one to write reviews but I had to for this one. You can tell how much they care about their products as every step of the way was quality. From the easy to read instructions to the build quality and sturdiness of the box (even the lid support arms are great!) to even the little details of the packaging of the hardware, everything is fantastic. Yes, Iâm mentioning the packing of the hardware! Often times with build it yourself kits itâs a pain to open the screws, and then when you finally get it open, you have a mess of disorganized chaos – not so here. 10/10

Worth every penny
Amazing. I bought this toy chest in 2020, and it has held up for the last 5 years. Itâs a great size and fits a lot of toys. Itâs very sturdy and only recently cracked on the top. I intend to buy a new one soon.

Love this toy box! The size is perfect and it has a little hole in the opening to protect little fingers. The controlled hinges on the lid helps SO much with not allowing the top to slam. Great quality for the price

This is great for toy storage. The lid stays exactly where you put it and the small open space between the bench and lid means no squished fingers. Lots of space and I like that it’s also sturdy enough that it could be used as extra seating. It also looks nice in our living area.

This is a beautiful chest. Large and spacious, but still acceptable for a smaller home. The quality is exceptional, and the bonus of the lid staying open is crucial for little ones! I can tell this will be something we hang onto for generations to come. 10/10.

This toy chest was very easy to put together. The hinges on the lid prevent the lid from slamming down onto your hands, and the inside seems fairly spacious. I did notice while putting it together that the finish seems to mark up easily though. It’s the kind of transfer mark that shows up as grey/black and is able to be mostly (but not completely) cleaned away. I could see this being a problem as our little one becomes more mobile and is tossing toys in and out of the bin. Otherwise it seems like a great product!
