    Nice Vise
This vice is a very nice suprise…. I bought it to add to a new workbench in my shop that I repurposed from and old oak desk. I figured I would get a cheap vise that Might work… NOPE this vice is a great addition…It is the only one offered here that has the bench dog lug at a low price… thats the main reason I chose it in the first place. I added 2 (hickory) clamp pads made from left over tounge and groove flooring and this vise is ready to go. I read a few reviews for some other offerings and I will say. If you like a cheap alternative this is the way to go. This vise has a good sturdy feel and is smooth operating. I especially like that is has rubber noise stops on the handle ends (a plus). Im not to fond of the “hammered finish” but it is of little concern at this price range…. All in All I would recommend this vise to anyone looking to add one and dosent want to pay out the wazoo for one that will do the same thing… I WILL be buying another one for the other side of my new bench also!!!

    Good Budget Vise
The vise is good for the price. It will work well for my needs doing home projects and just having fun making stuff with wood in the garage. It will be mounted to a homade 2’x4′ work table using bolts. The smooth surfaced slide rods can be screwed out for vise disassembly. The only strike I will give this vise is due to the partly inaccurate measurements stated in the descriptions. The jaws open to only 6″ not 7.5″ from front inside jaw surface to rear inside jaw surface. The jaw width is 6″ not 6.5″. (See photos). But this vise still has a wider jaw grip than some of the other brands. I rate this vise at 4 stars mostly because of the misleading or at least the inaccurate measurements portrayed. In A nutshell, it’s a great vise for someone trying to be frugal with their money like me.

Inexpensive (check the competition) and excellent functionality.
While you can easily find much more expensive wood vises, the added functions of larger screws, a built-in dog and heavier construction isn’t necessary for the occasional woodworker. I purchased this for a portable worktop I’ve designed for convenient movement around the garage, shop or home. This vise is sturdy, well priced and will meet the need of hobbyist and frequent handyman alike. If the gods of woodworking are willing and I finish the worktable this summer I’ll come back and add a video later.

No Metal Dog And Loose Guides
This vise is solidly made, heavy, relatively easing to attach and install to pretty much any bench, wide enough to hold many things big and small, and pretty inexpensive. However, I have 2 big issues with it:1. No metal dog! Despite the description and picture stating it has a built-in dog, it does not. Apparently, whoever made the listing for this vise copied and pasted it from somewhere else. If you need a dog, you’ll have to build it into the vise.2. Boy howdy are the guides arms loose! What else can I say about this really. All in all, I will use this vise for the time being. I will probably replace it with a better crafted vise when I get the money. I will say that, when I do, I am not throwing it away. I can break the vise down and use the components in a DIY vise or some other project. All else fails, I will tie rope to it and use it to do some bicep curls.

    It’s a total gamble
***EDIT***I’ve lowered my rating to one star because I’ve noticed that most of the pictures for the 6 1/2″ vise are for an older and larger model, they no longer make. That model seems to have been much better in overall build quality. One of the pictures is the 6 1/2″ model being sold here. You can tell which one it is, because the handle, main screw cap, dog, and front of the vise have rust all over them, and some of the paint is missing as well. There is also a carter pin on the end of the main screw to prevent the vise from coming apart. It’s very misleading for the rest of the product pics to be of different models.***END EDIT***I see there are lots of reviews here that point out anything that can go wrong with ordering this vise, more than likely will. I am building a small multipurpose bench for glue up, painting and as a little workbench that I can move to different areas of my home or workshop for small tasks. This vise would be perfect because it has a built in dog. I knew it would be a gamble that I would get the correct vise (many here have received a model without the dog), and it would be a minor miracle if it wasn’t broken or covered in rust.Well, I got the correct model, and it was not covered in rust. It was very poorly painted, and the casting is terrible. But it does work as intended. Checking with a square, it should install flush. The threads on the main screw are NOT acme, but rather fine pitched. The main screw is steel and the vise is of course cast iron. Fine threads from the steel will carve up the cast iron over heavy use. That’s why most vise’s use acme threads. The dog is not spring loaded. It’s just a chunk of steel that uses a screw and wing nut to lift and hold it in place. Overall, this vise is rudimentary at best. But it works and is the right size for my needs. Since it has a built in dog, I can use thin scrap wood as pads and have maximum opening space.I feel that I got lucky after reading through the other reviews here. If you don’t need a built in dog, then I would highly recommend the Irwin or Yost 6 1/2 vise instead. The build quality on this vise is so rough that it should really embarrass Olympia Tools. There are several globs of cast iron on the outside of the vise that are a good half inch in size. They were just painted over. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because at under $20, getting what I ordered, and it not being covered in rust or broken out of the box. However, I would normally not recommend this thing unless you’re willing to gamble, and have a very simple use for it.*** Edit 2***So when I was opening the vise to place a bit of wood in it, the inner face threads just broke apart and started falling out in little bits. While I was trying to examine it, the front jaw slipped out, and I wasn’t expecting that do I dropped it and the corner broke off and the dog fell out by breaking free from it’s tac welded on screw. This thing is complete junk. I’ve never seen anything made of metal just disintegrate before. IMHO, it’s worthless junk that can’t even perform it’s basic use. Avoid this garbage at all costs.***EDIT 2***

This is a good, sturdy little vise for a hobby workbench. Big enough for most hobby jobs and solid enough to stand up to most woodworking jobs.
