Well built but not well designed
I love a good pair of foot pegs for my JKU Wrangler. When I took the doors off a few weeks back, I was excited to add these pegs as a replacement for my old pair. Unfortunately, I don’t think these pegs are a winning item for me.My only real gripe is the installation process. Other pegs I’ve used are pretty simple: you drop the bolt thru the door bracket and twist on a locking nut. These pegs are quite a bit more involved. There’s actually two bolts: one that goes thru the door bracket, and a second that lives outside the door bracket and is used as a backstop so the peg doesn’t rotate too far outward. This process doesn’t appear that bad at first, but the way those bolts are tied together with the washer plate makes the tightening process clunky. You have to screw on the outer nut for a bit, then the inner one, and back and forth until you get them tight enough and even enough to hold the peg securely without slop, but also not so tight that you can’t swing the peg in/out. It’s a lot. Beyond that, I feel like the foot rest portion of the peg is almost too close, like I have to bend my knee more than I’d like to have my foot at rest on the peg in a comfortable position.I do like that there’s a lip on the outside edge that keeps your foot from sliding off the side, and the patterns cut into the pegs are also appealing. The pegs are very sturdy, and will probably last for a long time (the locking washers are the only weak point in build quality, and even then they’re not bad at all). I just feel like these were over-engineered to the point of becoming cumbersome.
