Make your 2nd gen act like a new one!
Just installed this on my tundra and I must say it is awesome! took me 15 minutes if even that, most of that time was getting tools. You get three parts in the box the strut the bolt and the bracket. Mine came with instructions and it was so simple and easy. No clearance issues and it works beautifully. This will help especially in the mornings for tool unload and save wear and tear on my tailgate. Rough Country really thought this product through and made it as simple as it could be without major modifications. you will need a t-40 torx bit and a 13mm wrench or deep socket for this install but that is really it. Even the most novice of do it yourself people can install this quickly and easily and there are a few videos out there showing how to do it so don’t be alarmed if you cant figure it out. Great purchase.

Super simple, easy installion, and more importantly IT WORKS.
Well it’s almost like a right of passage when your Tundra tailgate strut finally goes out on your truck…As practical as Toyota is in its design and craftsmanship it is super puzzling the choice they made to mount the OEM strut to the frame in the way they did which essentially makes it an absolute complete pain in the ass to fix and/or replace the strut. In comes this tailgate strut kit. Do I wish it was hidden away like the OEM strut? Yes, of course but that would basically take some level of fabrication. This kit is SUPER simple to install with minimal tools and time. It literally took me a few minutes and it just plain works exactly like it should. Time will tell if the durability is there but for the money spent and the results I’ve gotten so far – hard to complain.

does not fit with existing bolt & washer.
The product will not fit with the existing bolt washer still on my Tundra, which does not come off. I stripped the bolt, trying to tighten it. I now also need a replacement “T40” bolt. Additionally, the shaft of the product cracked during removal. Will not order this again

Simple add-on that really helps
My 2019 Tundra tailgate opens somewhat slowly, but I never trust that. It took about 5 mins to install this strut and it made my tailgate into a smooth descending one. Best part is, if I ever decide I don’t like it, i can revert to factory in the same amount of time.

Works well but donât use 2 of them!!!
If you used two of these on your truck, it causes your tailgate to pop out of socket. I ended up having to send one back due to this. One is plenty to get it to go down slowly. Fit was easy and I love that it slows down the tailgate instead of slamming down.

This was soo easy to install; but somehow I managed to send the retension clip flying across the yard and into the grass. Pay particular attention to the tail gate bolt you remove to replace it with the peg.
