Great mall.
This is a good design. I had to file the cheeks down to improve the edge geometry. The mall really splits wood, and doesn’t get stuck. It must be excellent steel; it holds an edge very well. The only CON: Estwing put a soft rubber sleeve on the handle below the head. I literally had it chewed up in the 1st half hour of splitting. No overstrikes, just normal splintering of Doug Fir as the mall travels through the split. Terrible design. I thougt about trying to cut it off, but ended up wrapping it tightly with electrical tape. Works for now, but will likely have to be removed in the future. If Estwing reads this….. please don’t install the soft rubber on the handle.

Corner hook too large and dangerous.
I was surprised it did not come with protective cover that fit to stay on. The rear corner where it has the hook ground to it is far too large. I had to grind it down myself.This is American brand name, but the item was made in Indiaâ¦. this is omitted information from the description.

I bought the 4.5 lb and the 6 lb. Awesome axes, I only have them 4 stars because as soon as you miss your mark the rubber underneath the axe head will open right up

Incredible maul!!!
Been splitting wood for a long time and this maul is the best Iâve ever used! Light weight but you wouldnât know it by the way it splits!!!!
