The Fiskars Soil Block Maker creates seed-starting soil blocks, which produce healthier seedlings and reduce the need for disposable seed starter trays and pods. Soil blocks encourage strong root systems via natural air pruning while preventing young plants from becoming root bound. This reduces transplant shock, while offering more efficient uptake of water and nutrients when the plants are transferred outdoors. The structure itself provides proper compression of seed-starting soil, ensuring each soil block has the right amount of air, moisture and consistency. Create one 3Ω in. block for larger seeds and plants or four 1 in. soil blocks for smaller plants. Additionally, the tool places a hole at the top of each block for easy, optimal seed placement and depth.

I was skeptical at first but it’s perfect!!!
Yes item exceeds all expectations…. It is light weight, makes 1 inch blocks and 4 inch blocks, it is strong durable, easy to clean, very easy to use and just all around the best personal soil blocker for someone with a garden… It would take too long for a market gardener but it’s perfect for a decent sized family garden….my wife and I use it, my 6 year old uses it with ease and my 2 year old uses it with my help…. Amazing product at a great price!!!

Works well but block sizes and shapes are not optimal
It seems to be well made and it is easy to use. But, if you make the single large block it is really too big for most plants. The block is tall and cone shaped which is not very efficient in terms of soil use or space. If you use the insert, you get 4 small blocks, but they are almost too small, and again the shape is not very efficient. If you just want to try soil blocking it is low cost tool and works OK for a small number of blocks. If you think are going to do a lot of soil blocking seed starting, I would suggest the more standard square blocks. In my experience a 1.5 or 2 inch version is good for general garden use.

Great idea but
Soil has to have a high clay content to hold together

works well
I used it this season. If you don’t have a large operation, this is the way to go. Great value for your money. Much cheaper than metal soil blockers, but held up very well. I didn’t really care for the size and shape of the smaller blocks. They dried out very quickly. But it worked great.I’m convinced that soil blocking is the way to go, but I may switch to a metal blocker because while this one is great, its a lot of work if you are growing a large amount of plants. That could be my fault. I’m not sure that I’m loading the soil in the blocker in the best/easiest way.If you are looking at trying soil blocking, this is a solid way to start for little money.

Great soil block maker at this price point
Great tool for the price. One tool makes two different size blocks, four 1-in. blocks or one 3½ in. block for small or large seeds. This is different than the more “professional/traditional” soil block makers. This maker does not create a small block that fits into a larger block. The professional makers are made to nest inside each other and fit concisely in a 10×20 tray. While the blocks will not nest inside each other, and the round plugs will not fit nicely onto the square tray, this tool fits its purpose. It makes two different size blocks for different seeds, and it works wonderfully. I created blocks for about 200 plants in just a couple of hours. This tools was a great investment and I look forward to using for years to come.

Great tool!
Fun and messy to use!ð I found it worked best by filling it 3/4 up with potting soil, adding water, topping it off with more potting soil and water, turning over and compressing the water out. Then give a handful of hard smacks to shape it and get a nice seed hole. I did place small pieces of card board in between to make sure they didnât try to crumble or dissolve into each other. Goes quickly once you get the hang of it. Easy to figure out. They are handling well the mist level dial on my hose attachment. So far so good. Think Iâll be gifting these to gardener friends.

Really useful i got it for 5 bucks now it’s twenty five stars at five dollars but at twenty bucks more like 3 you can three 3dprint something comparable quite easily but the injection moulding is obviously better
