Better than Kasa
These are similar to the old Kasa KL-130 bulb, but add several cool new features. For instance, there is now a “party mode” that can use your phone’s microphone to make a light show with your bulbs, or the bulbs can just cycle between several colors on their own. They also updated the sunset and sunrise times to allow up to 5 hours before or after instead of only 59 minutes. You can set your lights to turn on or off up to 5 hours and 59 minutes before or after sunrise or sunset, so you have lot’s of flexibility. The old KL-130 bulbs had an “away” mode, but they took it away when they made the switch to the Tapo app. The away mode is available from the main screen on these Tapo lights. When set to Away Mode, these lights will randomly turn on and off making it appear like you are home when you are away. The fade feature has also changed. The Kasa KL-130 can be set to fade up to 60 minutes. This Tapo light can only be set to fade up to 30 minutes. That being said, the ‘fade’ on the original light was stepped, so around every few seconds it would get brighter or dimmer and you would noticeably see it ‘step’. The Tapo light does this much more smoothly. The pairing feature also seemed different to me although it’s been a long time since I’ve set up the KL-130. I’m pretty sure those used Bluetooth for setup, and these use Wi-Fi instead, and that’s where people are probably going to have the most trouble. During the pairing process, it will ask you to pair your phone with the light. If you have a phone like my Pixel 7, you will need to turn off your cellular network connection while doing this, or the phone won’t pair to the light and setup will fail. They are also only 2.4Ghz, which can also cause people issues if they have newer phones. This is kind of a bad setup experience, but for me it was no big deal. That being said, I wouldn’t buy these for someone else unless I was prepared to help them set them up.Overall, the light color and brightness is indistinguishable from the older KL-130 bulb to my eyes regardless of the color setting, so I’m not replacing all of my old bulbs just yet.

Great multi-color smart bulbs! Integrateds with KASA devices.
These are easy to install and use, and integrates with the older KASA system.I love being able to turn my lights kn and off with schedule, or voice commands, and to change the color of the light at will.I just placed these in two different new overhead lights – both in hallways. And they work perfectly! Iâm able to set them to a lovely low light purple for a scheduled night light. And if needed, turn them on at-will to a bright white.I aleeady had the KASA app, but did install the TAPO app too, which is newer and also connects to the KASA devices. Iâm very happy so far with these bulbs, and do recommend them. Iâll see how long they last; have been up for about 3 weeks and use daily.

Poor wifi range
These lights are great! One drawback, which took me some time to figure out is their wifi antenna is significantly less effective than other wifi devices; probably about 50% reduction in effectiveness compared to my phone. I had devices on my front porch and garage which in worst case were about 35′ away from my TP Link range extender (which is working great unlike other range extenders I’ve tried) and they kept cycling betwween online and offline. Turning the front porch / garage light switch off then back on seemed to resolve the problem for about 1 minute, then 3 of the 4 devices fell off the network again. The one light that didn’t seem to have this problem was the closest (about 15′ away) to the range extender. All 4 devices reported no bars in the RSSI (signal strength) area of Tepo app (just the dot was illuminated at the bottom of the ‘bars’ icon). Moving the range extender about 15′ closer to the 4 bulbs resolved the problem. Signal strength reported one bar for all four bulbs and now they work reliably. Range extender is on our hallway about 5′ from the front door, whereas when they weren’t working the range extender was about 20′ from the front door.

Best I’ve Bought
Great product compared to my old “smart” bulbs. The colors are perfect. Installation was quick, easy, and the new Tappo app is great so far.As with most LED light bulbs their base is larger in size and height. In some fixtures the bulb may rise above the lamp shade.Obviously any LED bulb will save energy and (as long as you get quality bulbs like these) they will not generate so much heat. Regular bulbs increase the temperature in the house by at least a couple degrees. So these bulbs will also save you money on cooling during the summer.

Fun light bulb to use
Been using almost a year now and really like how you can change the light bulbs color and brightness. I use the app that works with it to control it as well as my Echo Pop. It has worked fine except that there was one time the bulb stopped responding with Alexa. I had to reconnect the bulb to the Echo Pop and then it worked again. Other than that, no issues and it is fun to see all the colors it can make. My favorite setting at night is to have the bulb white at about 50% brightness.

The light was super easy to set up in the tapo app with the reset of my device connecting to the Wi-Fi was straight forward. Colors are perfect. The only thing is I would increase the brightness for the light to be better.
