ATD 1.2 — an impressive alternative or supplement to typical small torque wrenches
All new copies of this shipping now are the ATD 1.2, the main improvement over the ATD 1 being that you can, with a little effort, change the settings by hand if you don’t happen to have the requisite 5mm Allen key to hand. It’s very accurate, no side-to-side play whatsoever in the head, and with stems, handlebars, cleats and seat posts, not to mention many gear and brake settings, now in the four to six Newton-meter range of this tool (no more 8 to 10 nM stems, for example), it’s extremely versatile, possibly saving many people from having to drop anywhere from $50 to $200 on a small torque wrench, and providing others who do choose to purchase such a tool a smaller, lighter and sturdier tool that you can take with you on a ride and that’s easier and more convenient to use.I don’t think the individual preset torque keys are worth it except in a high volume shop. This device, however, is probably the most obvious torque tool for a home mechanic. You’d need something like Park’s TW-6.2 for pedals, crank arms, rear hub and bottom bracket (not too many adequate cheap knockoffs in this category, unfortunately, because so many of the automotive and home improvement-oriented torque wrenches measure torque in one direction only, whereas it’s in this relatively higher torque wrench that on a bike you really need both directions); you’d need something like the TW-5.2 or one of the Performance, Nashbar, Amazon or other knockoffs for items such as the mounting bolt on a rear derailleur and the bolt that tightens Shimano STI shifters to the handlebars on a road bike (and here, most torque wrenches are bi-directional but don’t need it so much); but this little thing covers all the common running adjustments on a modern bike.Bottom line, this wrench will be useful for anyone with a bike with hex and Torx screws….and for someone who doesn’t go so far on their home bike repair as to change shifters, install derailleurs, pull/clean/replace bottom brackets and so on, but rather just keeps up with running gear and brake adjustments, maintenance, and appropriate bike fit, this could be your only torque wrench.

This is a great tool. Every once in a while
This is a great tool.Every once in a while, I find something great. This thing is on that list. It does EXACTLY what it says it does. It feels great in my hand and appears to be extremely well made. It’s heavy and strong. As described, it only has about six torque settings, and only comes with four bits. But this combination covers 90% of what I ever need to do on my bicycle. Specifically, this thing is EXACTLY what I wanted to tighten my stem-bolts (on a carbon-steer-tube) and my seat-tube. Each is spec’ed for 6 N-M.This “wrench” has zero slop or play in the drive, easily tightens a connector, and then “breaks” with an audible click, and an un-restricted movement of about 30 degrees. This action makes it very easy to hit the desired torque every time.I LOVE this thing and wonder why I did not get one when I got my bike. If you have a decent bike, GET THIS NOW.

I almost didn’t buy this because the the photos make it look like cheap plastic
Most of the reviews are exactly right. I almost didn’t buy this because the the photos make it look like cheap plastic, but it is very solid and nice tool.- as people said you do need an allen wrench to get it to 5.5 or 6 NM- the click/release is NOT subtle, it’s great- for a carbon frame it covers most stuff youd do at home (steerer, stem, seat) but it doesn’t go above 6 NM for derailleur etc (it doesn’t claim to)- the cap is loose, i’ll probably put some nail polish on it- I wish it came with both T20 and T25… I have the bits around but nowhere to store on the toolAll that in mind, if you look at the tool, and it fits your needs, definitely get it. I would normally do 4 stars instead of 5 simply because the cap and the T25 issue, but I don’t want to lower the rating because it’s that great a tool and I would encourage everyone to buy if it fills a need.I updated my review from 5 to 3 stars, then back to 4. After multiple close calls the bit that you are required to store in the head finally fell out and is gone forever. Park Tool customer service was great about it… but if you are taking it on a trip you could lose a bit from the head or handle one way or another. If you use it at home mostly, it’s a fantastic tool.

Torque To The Hand
What a great wrench! Ergonomically perfect, nice heft to it, and gives the most satisfying ‘click’ when it reaches max torque. Nearly every bolt on my bike has a tolerance of 5 nm, but I got the adjustable version as it wasn’t that much more expensive than the non-adjustable ones. No idea why people have any criticisms about this product — it does exactly what it’s supposed to do, perfectly. Of course it’s not all you’d ever need in a torque wrench, but that’s not what it’s billed as. And, yes, it’s too heavy to ride around with all day in a jersey pocket, but who rides around with a torque wrench? It’s great to make the minor adjustments that you can’t make with a conventional wrench. I’m not interested in tinkering with my bike or disassembling it — that’s what bike shops are for. If you want to actually ride your carbon bike rather than rebuild it this is the perfect tool to adjust your stem, bars, seat post, and various other bits with the most common tolerances of 4-6nm. If you spend more time working on your bike than riding it — time to buy a muscle car.

The product I received is the ATD-1.2 which is the improved version. Used it a few times and the torque is pretty accurate. I use this more often now as it is very handy.

Package arrived in poor condition , taped together. The polished parts of the torque key were already tarnished / showing some wear. Disappointed.
