This Machine is a BEAST
September 22, 2024I assembled this machine on April 13, 2024 and started using it shortly thereafter. I bought it to replace my Echo SRM-225 which I have used since June 2013. I bought this particular EGO model after reading great reviews about it. Both devices are used solely at my home.As this is my first battery powered piece of lawn equipment, I wanted to see how it handled several concerns that I had upon making the switch from gasolene to battery power, the first being just how it handled generally. I have to say that it handles very well. It is noticeably lighter than my old Echo and significantly quieter. It does a very good job of cutting the grass in either standard trimming such as along a fence line as well as along mulched areas where I have to hold it upside down. As there are more mulched areas than regular in my yard this second position is important to me and the EGO does very well in both areas. I have to say however that the inverted position is a little more cumbersome to me, but not a deal breaker.The second concern was how the EGO would handle a roughly 920 square foot area beyond the back boundary of my yard that contains weeds alongside a farm field. I go back there several times each summer to clean up the area. The EGO is excellent in this wild service actually better than my gas-powered Echo. This machine really goes after it. Thereâs more than enough power. It did have some problems with some big (3/8â diameter) Queen Annâs Lace that I encountered on my most recent time in the field, but for the most part it was up to the task. This is the service where it earned the âBEASTâ moniker.The third concern dealt with the auto-feed feature of replacing the line. Iâve only had to do so once so far, but it worked slicker than snot. So much easier to replace than my old Echo ever was.My final concern was battery charge life. Thereâs more than enough charge in the battery to do my whole yard, including the wild area in the back to do everything on a single charge. It also only takes a short time to fully re-charge. I always do the trimming before running the mowers so when done I put the battery on charge while mowing. Itâs always fully ready to go by the time Iâm done mowing. I donât need to keep it on charge when away from the garage. The battery holds the charge very well too. Weâve been having a drought, particularly over the last month or so and Iâve let it set for about 6 weeks. When I used it this past week there was more than enough charge to do the whole yard with no problem.Iâm extremely happy with this machine.

There are summer afternoons in this life when the air hangs heavy, and a man must take it upon himself to clear a path â not just through his yard, but through the quiet oppressions that gather in the corners of his spirit. I brought home the EGO POWER+ Combo, with its proud 15-inch trimmer and its handsome 530 CFM blower, like a gentleman returning with fine gifts from the city.The blower â ah, the blower is a marvel. It can be coaxed into a gentle sigh, a breeze so tender it will sweep a walkway clean without disturbing the careful bed of mulch nearby, like brushing a stray hair from a ladyâs temple without waking her. But when the hour calls for resolve, it will roar â drive back the stubborn clutter on the driveway and patio, even send those swarming lanternflies scattering like gossip on a hot veranda. Thereâs a âturboâ setting, and I confess, I have used it with a little too much satisfaction.The trimmer was another story, at first. In its youth â and mine with it â the cut was clean, the work steady. But as the line wore down, I found it merely laying the grass flat, as if it had grown weary of the fight. Heavy weeds would yield, yes, but the common grass mocked me. I coaxed the string forward by hand more than once, and I nearly despaired. But then⦠as if a stubborn mule finally took to the reins, the line began to feed as it should. With a good length of string, it found its vigor â slicing through light brush, grass, and weeds alike.These tools take the same battery as my faithful push mower â a union that pleases me greatly. The mowerâs strength and reliability had already convinced me of the EGO name, and now I can pass the same current, the same pulse of power, between mower, trimmer, and blower. The larger mower battery weighs a bit more than the trimmerâs own, but it lasts â oh, it lasts.So I find myself, on these quiet Southern afternoons, standing in the cleared path I have made, the air free of debris, the weeds humbled. And I think: the work is easier when your tools are true, and your heart is steady. I recommend them both.

I found the unit as a whole longThe power is great. Others I had would take a bit to get up to speed. This one is like a corded one, speed to cut when you press the button.Over all sturdy. Donât get a bigger battery as will be to heavy and not balanced.
