FAQ’S
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NO. 920 MARINE CLEANER AND NO. 631 MARINE COMPOUNDING POLISH?
No. 920 Fiberglass Boat Cleaner is a medium-cut, economically designed compound best suited for the removal of gel coat staining, mild-moderate oxidation, and other surface imperfections that can be commonly remedied by hand use. No. 631 Fleetcut’s versatility combines the cut of a compound with the finish of a polish. Designed for machine use (rotary for cutting, DA for polishing) No. 631 utilizes advanced abrasives specifically engineered to remove moderate-heavy defects; oxidation, minor scratches, swirls, stains, and compound haze while leaving behind a professional, mirror finish.

Collinite compound is alright
I am pleased with this compound and polish from Collinite. It works well at both tasks. It removed heavy oxidation from a small launch boat I have laying around (see attached video). It can’t remove the deep gouges, but I didn’t expect it to. It left it with more color and on the smooth areas it looked good.It is easy to use. The amount of compound required was not a lot at all, which makes it a good value. On a much nicer vessel than mine, its effectiveness will be able to be seen better.Overall, it is a good value for a quality product.

This is more of a medium cut, complimented well with Meguiars M100 heavy cut
This was a good compliment to meguiars heavy cut M100, I am restoring a 25 year old boat and even though this said medium to heavy, I’d say this collinite is more medium and a nice compliment to a heavier cut before using this. I other words my recommendation is to use something heavier to do your initial cut and then follow with this which offers a nice medium cut with shine.

A polished polish that’s American, not Polish.
I’m not the most well-versed polish user, but I know a perfected surface when I see it. From what I can tell, if used on the intended materials, Collinite No. 631 will do a fine job of glossifying your lightly scuffed surfaces.Because I enjoy using the wrong things to accomplish tasks, I first used No. 631 to buff a piece of marble that had served many years as a plant stand. It made no real difference after a few minutes of work with the electric polisher.Next, because Collinite No. 631 is SUPPOSED to be used on fiberglass, I used it on some scratched-up fiberglass rods. The deeper scratches remained (as one would expect), but they appeared smoother overall after a relatively short buffing. And even though the bottle doesn’t specify use on epoxy resin, I tried it on a formerly glassy resin countertop. Again, I don’t expext a fine-grit polish to do much for deeper scratches and dings. The satin scuffs, however, began looking more like semi-gloss after just a minute or so. I’m sure it could have been made to look even nicer had the motor in my underpowered polisher not started to smoke. If you need a compound for the surfaces Collinite No. 631 is made to polish (e.g. boat hulls), give it a try – there’s a good reason the company has been around since 1936. Just make sure your polisher isn’t as junky as mine.

Beautiful Shine!
Though âCollinite Marine FLEETCUT Polishing Compound #631â is packaged for professional boat detailers, every boat owner should understand the basics of surface preparation. Boats are made of a mixture of soft polyester resin and a white or colored pigment. After exposure to sun, the surface has a rough powdery look. This product is meant to âcutâ off the exposed layer leaving a smooth surface for applying a fresh coat of Collinite wax. It is intended as a combined intermediate and final buffing using a grit that performs the intermediate cut then disintegrates into finer particles to create the final finish. It contains oil which fills small pores to save on absorption of wax. It is meant to be applied with a micro fiber pad and a dual action random orbit polisher.Used as intended, this is the finest, easiest, fastest and most economical way to get a mirror shine on a boat. Instructions to do so are included on the bottle. As with all professional products, care must be taken. This product is not for polishing metal, paint or clearcoat. Attention to detail is necessary to achieve the proper outcome.Highly recommended.

It works very nicely on my boat gelcoat.
I am not the best at keeping up with the wax on my boat so I get a lot of oxidization from time to time. I tried this product with my rotary polisher/sander and my DA polisher/sander. Using the different tools with this product yielded slightly different results. For the really heavy stuff the straight up rotary polisher seemed to cut through were the DA seemed to be inconsistent. Where the oxidization was moderate to light the DA seemed to work great and made it fairly shiny and ready for wax or a cleaner wax. I was very satisfied with the results. I tried this on my sons oxidized headlights as well by using my 3″ rotary polisher from 500/800/1000/2000 grits and then used this product and it seemed to do very well. It took the last of the faint swirl marks out with a little polishing a patience. It is very on par with other products I used for gelcoat.

Works well
Ordered this for my stainless steel fridge it works great, that appliance has never looked better. I have also used this on a heavily tarnished silver alto saxophone and it worked amazing this product is cutting down on my restoration time and making that silver look like it was just cast today not 108 years ago. Has not harmed my metals and has already become my new best friend with my old sax. DO NOT use on a painted surface this is for BARE metals such as stainless steel, silver. gold, copper, brass. I use this with a Dremel and have had no problems with this compound scratching or discoloring the metal when used at medium to medium low speeds and light pressure.
