The unmissable new mystery in the Thursday Murder Club series from #1 New York Times bestselling author Richard Osman, now streaming on Netflix
Who’s got time to think about murder when there’s a wedding to plan?
It’s been a quiet year for the Thursday Murder Club. Joyce is busy with table plans and first dances. Elizabeth is grieving. Ron is dealing with family troubles, and Ibrahim is still providing therapy to his favorite criminal.
But when Elizabeth meets Nick, a wedding guest asking for her help, she finds the thrill of the chase is ignited once again. And when Nick disappears without a trace, his cagey business partner becomes the gang’s next stop. It seems the duo have something valuable—something worth killing for.
Joyce’s daughter, Joanna, jumps into the fray to help the gang as they seek answers: Has someone kidnapped Nick? And what’s this uncrackable code they keep hearing about? Plunged back into action once more, can the four friends solve the puzzle and a murder in time?

Great Read
Let’s get this out of the way first: Richard Osman is a great storyteller. The book is a great read and in many ways surpasses the earlier TMC books. There is one problem at the end though – a hole in the plot that had me shaking my head. I won’t ruin it for anyone bothering to read this review, but if you figure it out – just allow that old “suspension of disbelief” to take hold. There are enough twists and turns and of course, all the characters we love so much to more than make up for it.

Fun but not quite as good as past books
An enjoyable book but not quite at the level of perfection of the prior entries in the series. There was less fun and fewer laughs than in the prior books and a somewhat darker tone overall made the reading experience less enjoyable. The four pensionersâElizabeth, Joyce, Ron and Ibrahimâare all present but Joyceâs daughter Joanne, an intrinsically less interesting character, has a major role. Major drug dealer Connie and Connieâs criminal protegeâ Tia, also take up substantial amounts of the narrative and are also much less interesting than what should be the main characters. By contrast, Elizabethâpossibly the most interesting of all of the original charactersâhas a very minor role in the book and the story suffers from her absence. Recommended but with reservations as described above.

Together Again
Joyceâs daughter Joanna is getting married and Joyce couldnât be happier; she hopes the wedding will bring still-grieving Elizabeth a bit of joy. Meanwhile, Ron is experiencing family problems, and Ibrahim is busy counseling Connie, his favorite criminal, who in turn is mentoring a young girl whom she met in prison. At the wedding, Elizabeth is approached by the best man, Nick, who indicates that he has a problem that only she, with her special skills, can solve. Elizabeth agrees to meet Nick on the following day, but when the time arrives, Nick is missing and his office has been trashed. And so the hunt beginsâ¦. I love the Thursday Murder Club books because of both the mystery aspect and the daily-life aspect; Mr. Osman creates a rare blend of hair-raising adventure intermixed with simple daily acts like baking cookies (which Joyce is particularly bad at). Thereâs also a great deal of humour mixed with a stunning sense of the losses we all encounter in life, if we live long enough. To some extent, the crime solving that occurs in these novels is the least interesting aspect of the stories; itâs the very wonderfully drawn characters, their interactions and relationships, and their very human quotidian lives that really resonate here. Highly recommended, but start with the first book (The Thursday Murder Club), please!

The Impossible Fortune, impossible to put down
One of Osman’s best, full of humor and pathos. The Thursday Murder Club is back at it, this time investigating a disappearance and a murder tied to a fortune in Bitcoin. We learn more about Ron’s family — and Joyce’s daughter, Joanna. And the always entertaining Connie Johnson is back, this time mentoring a young woman she met in a prison art class. A delightful read you won’t be able to put down.

Put the pieces togerher
A jumble of names, habits, teas, and cakes. A flurry of doubt, finding oneself, remaking old friends, and a confusing countryside. Colorful friends, contrasting characters, and a jolly good time. Ceramic cats, leggos, puzzles, grandson, reformed delinquent? and ill prepared bullies. Too heavy brownies, misplaced mail order bomb, jealousy, rage, love, peace. As for the good guys – they lived happily ever after. The end. Worth waiting for. What’s next?

Not as good as the previous novels
In contrast to previous Thursday Murder Club mysteries, this one has a morose and somewhat maudlin overtone to it. The crew just isn’t the same without Elizabeth on top of her game. And the fact that Donna crows about how she pulled one over Elizabeth seems too much like piling on. Lots of navel-gazing and self-introspection! Enjoyable, but a little depressing.

Best yet fortunately
Probably the best story so far. Full of humor, interesting observations and mystery. If you like the others you will love this one. Highly recommend.

Another easy, uplifting & joyful read with multiple plots involving the characters we all know & love. Joanna ( Joyceâs daughter ) comes more into the fold together with her husband Paul. Lots of emotional insights & moving moments together with some laugh out loud moments. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

I preordered this novel and will continue doing so, when it comes to the Thursday Murder Club.Another entry that made me laugh, feel emotional, and want to meet these delightful characters. The mystery fun and the different angles that are taken â and how the different characters work on it â continues making sense given everything that has been written before. Plus, it’s great to keep reading more about the different families and getting to meet new (or get to know better) the different generations of the families. And Kendrick’s always a win.If you’ve liked the previous TMC novels, you’ll love this one. Or at least, I did.

After the very disappointing Netflix movie, it was wonderful to have a new book where all our favourite Thursday Murder Club characters were properly cast and fully developed! And so good to see some of the old Elizabeth slowly returning.Ibrahimâs innocent counselling of Connie and his naïve appreciation of Connieâs mentoring of Tia is so very funny.Joyce continues to find new strengths. Paul is a wonderful new foil for the strong women in his life.Ronâs family complications drove the story and added notes of concern about the possibility of getting to a happy ending. And Bogdan continues to add humour and strength to the storyline. One of those very satisfying reads that you wish had continued for a few hundred more pages!
