How To Use Grampa’s Weeder. Please Read!
1) Center Tool Over Weed
Simply place the tool over the center of the weed.
2) Press Into Ground
Press down on the footpad straight down into the ground then REMOVE YOUR FOOT.
3) Lean The Handle
Lean the tool towards the footpad. Do not lift the tool or twist. Only when you LEAN the tool, will the forks pinch around the weed.
Grampa’s Story
Grampa’s Weeder has been pulling weeds and their roots for over 100 years! Invented in 1913 in Seattle, Washington, it quickly became a must-have tool for gardeners in the Great Northwest. Production stopped in 1941 when metal was needed for the war effort, and unfortunately, it didn’t resume after the war.
That all changed in 1999 when my husband, Greg, discovered my mother’s old garden tool in her garage. Once he figured out how it worked, he was hooked! Soon, Grampa’s Gardenware Co. was born, and we started hand-making this classic tool in our Oregon garage. Our family was excited to bring “Grampa” back to gardeners everywhere.
Over the past 25 years, our small family business has come a long way. We’ve moved beyond the garage (thankfully!) and now proudly sell thousands of Grampa’s Weeder tools worldwide.
This simple lever, designed over a century ago, still remains one of the most effective weed removers on the market. It saves knees and backs while being using no chemicals. What worked well in 1913 still works well today. It’s true—”Everything Old Is New Again!” and Grampa’s Weeder proves it to us everyday.

Awesome Garden Tool
I have been impressed with this simple, yet very effective garden weeding tool! Itâs so simple to use. Simply stick it over the weed, push down with the assistance of the foot pad, release your foot and rock the entire tool back. Weed comes out from root to top. Easy!Here are the reasons I really love it. No assembly. Itâs one piece.Hoeing gets the job done faster, but this tool prevents accidental hacking of the plants and flowers you want to keep. And hoeing usually cuts the weeds in half and doesnât get to the roots. It can get tedious to remove weeds one by one with this tool, but itâs worth it in my opinion.No bending, stooping, or kneeling. This has spared my bad back and knees.Iâve been able to remove weeds growing through my creeping phlox without disturbing it. Iâve also been able to remove weeds growing tight against the edge of the walkway and sometimes in between shrub roots.Itâs also effective in hard to reach places. Iâve been able to remove weeds under thick shrubs by simply shoving the tool underneath and into the ground without using the footpad (because I canât reach under with my foot) and rocking it back. 8 out of 10 times itâs been successful using it that way!No more weed killer. Itâs not good for our ground water since weâre on well water and I donât have to worry about my grapes and blueberries being poisoned.It also works on tree seedlings and saplings. We have ash and tulip trees sprouting up in the beds all the time and this tool removes those, too, by the root!So far itâs been indestructible even after heavy usage (we have multiple very large beds)! The one thing I have to say is that if your soil has been getting a lot of rain, it can clog up in between the prongs. Iâve whacked and banged the prongs on garden boulders and our retaining walls to knock the clumps out. It takes the beating like a champ. The piece as a whole is super solid and very well made.Just be aware that if you have mulch, the mulch can jam in between the prongs and sometimes takes effort to remove. Other than that, itâs such a great piece that other family members have since bought their own based on my experiences.

Good value and quality
Works great! We are senior citizens and appreciate the length and ease of using it. No assembly required. Sturdy wooden handle and metal, not too heavy and we don’t have to bend much to remove the weeds from it. It is actually kinda addicting to use…..we are always saying…just one more weed and we will quit…but continue on. It is easiest to use and remove weeds when the soil is not moist.

Best weeder EVER!
I was skeptical – and boy was I wrong! This thing is amazing! And so very easy to use. I have trouble bending over and hanging there to pull weeds. This has saved my back and neck. And my yard looks better. It will pull a dandelion out with a complete root. That’s amazing in my book! Worth every single dollar and it is clearly built to last. Highly recommend!

Great Tool for Most Weeds â Just Donât Push It Too Hard
This is actually my second Grampaâs WeederâI loved the first one so much I decided to replace it after it broke. Itâs incredibly convenient for pulling weeds without bending over, which is a game-changer if youâre trying to save your back or knees during yard work.The tool works really well on typical weeds with shallow to medium roots. Super satisfying to pop them out with minimal effort. But I will say: my first one snapped when I tried to pull a deeply rooted, stubborn weed. Lesson learnedâthis tool is great for everyday weeding, but not meant for heavy-duty roots or super compacted soil.That said, I still bought another one because it really is the best for regular maintenance.It saves time, saves my back, and makes weeding almost enjoyable. Just know its limits and donât expect it to do the job of a shovel!

Fantastic Weeder
Wow I wish I’d purchased this fantastic weeder a year ago! It is light and works 1000 times better than the heavier and more expensive weeder we purchased from a local name home improvement store. This tool is so easy to use, and it really grips the weed and successfully pinches and lifts it out – root and all, with very little effort. The other weeder we used didn’t grasp the weed and would not pull out the root it usually just cut it below the soil. This weeder pulls out a lot less soil than the other weeder – mostly root. If you have weeds in your yard, I highly recommend you purchase this weeder immediately.

Great weeder!
I am so happy that I purchased the grandpaâs weeder! I am 69 years old and after many years of landscaping, my previous home, discovered itâs a little more challenging twenty years later. Weeding can be difficult if you have any back issues. I found that this weeder definitely works and even removes blackberry vines that saves me injury from thornes and saves my back. I did find it worked much better in softer soil.It is a very well made product, this tool will last many years.This is my new favorite tool!

I have servere arthritis so my mobility is limited & I am unable to kneel down to weed so I thought I’d look for a weeder that would work upright & didn’t require bending. I did some research & liked the simplicity of this weeder so I order one. I have been able to weed most of my backyard from crabgrass in just a matter of minutes. I don’t like using chemicals as I have a dog & it’s not good for the environment so this is the go to tool for removing those stubborn weeds from your lawn. I absolutely love it & even though I have arthritis it is still very easy to use & also helps keep me active in the garden. 5 stars for sure.

We have a massive weed problem this spring. I spent a few days using a Fiskar’s puller and then a few days using this one. I far and away prefer Grampa’s Weeder. It’s lighter and more precise and the iron plucker is sturdy and pulls HUGE prickly weeds and dandelions and various assorted weeds out clean, even when they come with 10 inch roots. I have been so impressed with it. Only downside is that it doesn’t have an ejector so you have to put a glove on one hand and pull the weed off the end each time. However, this also makes it much easier on the back, shoulders and arms, as I feel like the extractors on plastic weeders also takes more muscle/effort.If you are older, have mobility issues or have an injury in the shoulder or arm – this is the one to go with, as it makes weeding your yard a more leisurely (and somehow satisfying) task. Because you can clearly see the claw, it’s much easier to position it right over the centre of the weed and get a precise and perfect pull the first time, which I wasn’t able to do a lot of times with the heavier plastic weeders. So happy I bought this as it’s a total game-changer for my weeding and gardening. At first I wasn’t sure something so light and simple would be effective but I was blown away at how well it works. Highly recommended! Also – best time to use weeders like this is just after it rains, or first thing in the morning when the soil is still damp and soft.
