Modern features for my 2004 F150 with a super easy install
I put this Android head unit in my 2004 F150 and the install was a piece of cake. The included harness and canbus made the wiring simple. I used the supplied antenna adapter, connected the power and ground, plugged in the canbus box, stuck the GPS puck under the dash top, and routed the external mic to the column. From start of install to first drive took a short afternoon.Wireless CarPlay pairs a few seconds after startup. Maps, calls, texts, and music come up fast and Siri keeps my hands on the wheel. The 7 inch screen is sharp and readable in bright sun, and it dims nicely at night. Bluetooth streaming has been solid and phone calls are clear with the external mic. I also like having offline maps for mountain areas with spotty cell service, and WiFi makes app updates easy.Sound quality is better than the old radio by a wide margin. The EQ let me pull a little midbass out of the factory speakers and vocals pop more. There are RCA outputs for a sub if I add one later. FM works fine and shows station info.Steering wheel controls work after picking the Ford profile in the settings. Volume and track respond like stock. Backup camera works perfectly, and the unit switches to the camera feed when it sees the reverse trigger. If you want CarPlay and a clean, bright screen in an older F150 without fighting the wiring, this checks every box. Great price, easy install, reliable wireless, and noticeably better sound.

Nice refresh for an old truck. Software side is kind of a mess.
I was kind of surprised to see anyone making something to fit these old trucks. Thought that I’d give this a try. They did a great job on the physical side. If you have 2004-2008 F150, it’s a very easy plug-n-play installation. One plug and done for the main functions. If you have a sub, separate amp/speakers, steering wheel controls (need to set CANBUS right), etc., then you’ll have a little more to do but all relatively simple. A couple of other plug-ins for the GPS puck and rearview camera if you want one. All connections are well labeled and only plug in one place and in one way. Very easy. If you have only even the most minimal understanding of how to install such things you’ll have no problem with this. The software setup and operation side is a little less easy. You’ll need to spend some time with it to figure out where things are and how it works. Not all that hard but overall the interface is kind of a jumble of stuff in various places. It all works well enough I suppose but overall I’m not a fan. Settings are scattered in too many various places. As are some basic functions. For example, there’s no way to directly get to the radio that I can see. A seemingly common thing you’d think. You have to go to the home screen, then into a group of functions under that, then select radio. Fortunately, it does then come up wherever you left things on the next startup. Likewise, there’s no direct buttons for volume. From the main panel, you need to touch the power ‘button’ which then mutes things and you select the volume level on a slider. (See below for at least a partial help for that.)Bluetooth worked fine and I had no issues getting that set up. Wireless CarPlay took a few tries but set up OK and works fine since. GPS software is OK and I was able to update the maps no problem. I’ll mostly use CarPlay anyway but good to have a backup that doesn’t depend on cell connection I suppose. The IPS screen is very good. Bright and clear from most any angle and lighting. Not that fast of a processor but I haven’t really experienced much if any lag. I don’t do a lot with it at the same time though so YMMV.A few tips… You can get rid of the kind of annoying little voice assistant guy in the voice assistance setup. Separately in the settings you also can select to have volume, home, time, and some other functions displayed at the top of the screen which makes volume control easier (see at top right in pictures). But it doesn’t work on all screens across the board or while in CarPlay. To change from KM to MPH for the car that shows on the home screen look under car settings. Also under car settings is where you’ll need to go to set up the CANBUS for wheel controls. As I said, kind of jumbled.Overall, functionally it’s OK and a reasonable value for the price. Most everything does work and pretty well. But the interface is kind of a mess and makes me like it less. Maybe I’ll get used to it as I use it more but doubt that I’ll ever really come to like it. Granted, it’s trying to do a lot but a lot of what it does should be easier to do.

Bless This Chaos Box, for It Almost Does What It Promises
At first, I was amazed — the radio worked! What a concept. If you happen to own the exact car model it was designed for, congrats: it comes with all the integration fairy dust your dashboard could dream of. Me? I live dangerously. I chopped off the connector and wired it up myself like some kind of peasant. Surprisingly, it powered on. Promising!Bluetooth? Dead on arrival. But don’t worry — after a ritual involving toggling “Bluetooth Net,” enabling auto-connect, auto-answer, and whispering sweet nothings to it, *CarPlay* actually kicked in. Miraculous. Maybe the dev team got that part done before lunch. So it may or may not work, I honestly wouldn’t gamble on it.AV-IN? It *has* an icon. And wonder of wonders — it actually works. Cue confetti. I was even starting to believe. But then I tried connecting Bluetooth to a PC. Cue the funeral march. First, it asked for a PIN and failed. Then it ghosted me completely. Classic toxic relationship energy. Moral: it might work with your device. Or it might not. Schrödinger’s Bluetooth. Now, PODOFO. It’s allegedly voice command software — it even has a cute little AI mascot popping up on screen to remind you what it *could* do if only the developers had thought to include a microphone. You’d think plugging one in might fix it. You’d be wrong. He’s just there for moral support. Like Clippy, if Clippy had unresolved trauma. There’s no volume knob. Fine. But there’s also no *obvious* way to control volume at all — until you long-press the power button, and surprise! You unlock the sacred hidden volume slider. I assume the UI designer has a prank channel on YouTube.Navigation? It ships with “HERE WeGo” (all caps required). GPS is… serviceable, if you like your location to shimmer and slide slightly. Think of it as ambient positioning. The Play Store and WiFi do work — gotta hand it to them, that’s two points on the board. Sound output is okay, maybe 40W per channel if you squint hard. The screen is meh, 6/10: 1024×600 at 160dpi, it works but it’s far from brilliant.Specs: <2GB RAM (I checked, you sneeky cheekers), 64 (53) GB storage, quad-core CPU. Those four cores are pushing a whopping 1.5GHz each, which is basically fast enough to render the boot logo in real time. Anything beyond that, expect lag. But hey, at least the lag is consistent.Final take? It *tries*. It really does. But between the flaky Bluetooth, the useless onboard AI, no working mic, and the scavenger-hunt UX, this radio feels like it came from a parallel universe where QA is a myth and documentation is a suggestion.Would I recommend it? If you're installing it in your nemesis’s car, absolutely. Otherwise, it’s a fun toy — just don’t expect it to act like a tool. The manual is inadequate and not made-up-for by the on-screen instructions. For the price, I'd find one that works -- entirely.
