    Best doorbell camera available
If you want home surveillance and value your privacy there is really nothing better than Ubiquiti Networks, and this video doorbell does not disappoint.First and foremost, you need to be aware that this isn’t a standalone solution. So if you don’t already have some sort of NVR from Unifi you will need one in order to put this to use, and overall that makes this a bit of a pricey solution in terms of what you have to spend up front. But the thing that makes the Unifi system so great is that the recordings never leave your network. It’s not uploaded to some cloud where it’s anybody’s guess who has access to the video feeds, and to me that is absolutely worth the extra cost. Your video feeds are not bought and sold by marketing and advertising, they live on the storage device that is a part of this system that is set up somewhere on your home network. And finally, because you own the storage and the cameras there are no ongoing fees, so eventually it all pays for itself. I cannot stress how important all of this is enough.I already have a Cloud Key Gen2 already set up with cameras monitoring my property, so once the doorbell cam powered up I was able to adopt it into the system fairly easily. The video quality is excellent, you can set up motion zones, notifications, even a greeting message on the G4 Doorbell’s integrated display. The large button for the doorbell chime activation has a colored LED ring around it that changes color depending on what is going on. You can do two-way audio with it as well. You will also likely need to replace the transformer that powers your door chimes. Get a 24v/40va unit here on Amazon and you’ll be set. This can be a bit of a pain because it’s one of those things that doesn’t have a typical install location in your home – some people have them in the attic, some people have them in a closet somewhere near the front door, mine was in my crawl space of all places.Happy I purchased this to compliment the rest of the cameras I have. Ubiquiti puts out great products.

    Good unifi eco system
Great product with typical smart doorbell features such as leaving custom messages on the doorbell and two way voice communication. It took a couple of factory resets when trying to install but ez to do.I love that it’s self hosted on my dream machine pro so I don’t have to pay a subscription or rely on a cloud service (remember when AWS went down?) Unifi equipment is really geared towards more tech savvy nerd DIY’rs

    Poor quality control
I was pretty excited to receive this unit because I have a ton of other Ubiquiti product that seems to work great. The box came as expected and actual installation was great, they pretty much made it idiot proof because you can connect the terminals in no specific order.Once paired I was able to see reasonably clear video.. but the sound; The sound on my unit is practically un-usable. It seems to drop its network connection when people walk by.. which is obviously not great for a video doorbell. I have the access point only 15 feet away on the ceiling indoors and it otherwise reports a very good network connection.Also- another thing that attracted me to this product was the bottom facing light. I read a lot of reviews with people receiving this and not having that light working… it’s true. Mine in fact does not work and there is no toggle for it in the settings.Maybe I just got the worst one in the batch 🤷🏼‍♂️

The good the bad and the ugly!
The Good: I already had a Unifi system installed at my place including the UCK G2 Plus with a 1 TB hard drive. This made the install pretty simple since all of the background equipment was already in service. The install was easy and I had no issues in the adoption into the Unifi system and the mechanical doorbell already in place responds well after going into settings and selecting the mechanical setting since the default is No Chime. The Bad: So for some reason they do not send out install instructions and I had to go to their web site to get the wiring diagram and other instructions. This is the EU version so they send a din rail 240V/16V- 15VA transformer that would be unusable for the normal US installer. But I was lucky enough to already have a 16V – 15VA Nutone transformer in place. I would think anyone with a 16V transformer less than 15VA would end up with issues. The Ugly: So just so everyone knows, this is not the PRO version. And they are charging the same here on Amazon for the standard G4 doorbell as you would pay for the PRO version at the Unifi website. You might save a little in shipping costs but you do not get the PRO version. What’s the difference? I’m not sure of all differences but for one the PRO version has a separate camera for packages. I could not see that this one has that. The PRO version has locking screws and a release key where as this one just has a simple plunge tab for removal for anyone with a pencil. And I am sure there are other things the PRO has that this one does not.Other Things: It does pay to do your research before buying and so I learn this lesson over and over again but it seems to never stick, probably because there just isn’t enough time in the day. Heheh!

    Update to the update 6/7/2025
I bought the doorbell camera and console back in 2022. Since then I have had two glitches which I emailed Support. The first time, I was sent a new console at no charge. The second time, I couldn’t get it to work and did everything Support told me to do. Then today, I realized I was using the wrong password which is why the camera would not accept my pw. I apologized to Support. It is a good doorbell camera, clear video, sensitive to distance so it works from a great distance and I like that.

Camera performance better than expected with responsive AI incident detection. I’m using two for gate and door access – seem less and very effective. Better than reviews suggested – much better.😊👍

Unfortunately the camera records and streams at 1080 p. For the doorbell “g4” it should have ideally supported 4K.
