Truly outstanding little saw.
I absolutely love this saw. It’s small enough and light enough that it’s perfect for most any job. And it uses my standard DeWalt 20-volt batteries. This is probably not for the commercial contractors who will likely want a larger, more powerful saw. But for the average DIY person, this saw is great. And it’s a DeWalt, so you know it’s outstanding quality.

but highly recommended for DeWalt battery users!
The DEWALT DCS391B is a powerful and reliable 20V MAX circular saw. The 6-1/2-inch blade cuts smoothly through wood, and the 460 MWO motor delivers excellent performance. The 0-50° bevel adjustment is precise, making angled cuts easy. Lightweight yet durable, it’s perfect for DIYers and pros. Bare tool only, but highly recommended for DeWalt battery users!

Total must-have for hobbyists, and not bad for pros, either.
Light, powerful, and very decent battery life! I bought this for a nonprofit I was working with in Panama. We operated out of a field station in the jungle that ran on a little 1000w hydroelectric plant. Most of the wood we were cutting was tropical hardwood. This little saw got further with that than I ever expected it would. Here are my rough estimates:* Casual project: A+. It’s such a blessing to be able to just pick it up off the shelf, take a foot off of a board and put it back. I can’t tell you how elated I was to be able to do this.* Day project: A+. I used it a number of times all day long for lightweight hobby-type projects (changing batteries a few times, of course, though not as much as you would think).* Limited professional job: A-. Don’t let the minus fool you — that’s still an A! It’s just kind of annoying to have to change batteries if you’re using it tons.* Heavy professional job: C. Unfortunately, it heats up quite a bit under heavy use, and once it heats up, it shuts itself off. There’s no solution for this other than just waiting around for it to cool down. I’m glad that it has the shutoff circuit, but this means it’s never going to be a replacement for your plug-in circular saw. That said, it’ll cut just about whatever you throw at it, so it’s still worth its salt in a pinch. As for notes on cuts, I’m afraid it’s been too long since I used it to have good solid numbers. I do want to point out, though, that I used it with some really hard tropical woods (Nispero, cuajao, mahagony…) and have two relatively reliable figures in my head for them:* Doing small cross cuts (like cutting 2x4s and 2x6s to length) I could go just about forever as long as I kept changing batteries (the batteries lasted about 15 minutes under heavy use in these cases).* Ripping boards was very difficult. I could usually get about 10 to 12 feet in 2″ – 3″ hardwoods before the saw overheated and stopped. Then I had to just let it rest and pick up again when it was cool.

Get your home projects started
Works great , not heavy, designed for the DIYer .The 6 1/2 inch blade has handled most smaller lumber size and thickness. I use the 4Ah size battery which will last a day of intermittent cutting. The price can’t be beaten

Nice DIY tool
Great DIY, saw, bought it for works around the home. Not as powerful as the XR, but this gets the work done.

With the right blades, this is a honey of a saw.
I really like this saw and rechargeable system. Is it possible to love a saw? I have several tools that use the 20-volt batteries, including the 20-volt rotary hammer and 3 different chargers, as well as the 12-volt vehicle charger so I can recharge the compatible hand-held flashlight and flood light for road emergencies or anywhere I need to see in the dark. I carry them wherever I drive. One never knows. As with any saw, using a sharp blade appropriate for the material one is cutting is always the most important measure to ensure top performance. I have this saw paired with the premium 5Ah & 4Ah batteries and a selection of blades for different materials, some Dewalts and some Diablos (my favorite blades). It fully exceeds my expectations. It will cut all day and then some. It’s light and extremely portable, and it tears through solid oak and maple like it’s going through soft butter. There is a small “learning curve,” as one becomes comfortable with the saw blade on the left side of the tool, as viewed from the operator’s perspective. The corded saws I’ve always used have the blade on the right side, but it doesn’t take long to adapt to this configuration. Without a doubt, this saw is my favorite power tool followed by the rotary hammer, which is a close second. The only (small) source of disappointment is that it’s shipped without a rip fence. For the life of me, this seems rather cheap behavior on the part of DeWalt, a manufacturer of quality tools that usually doesn’t cut corners in my experience. My guess is that it would probably only have cost DeWalt a few extra pennies to have included the rip fence with the tool rather than inconvenience customers with the necessity of purchasing it separately upon discovering this admittedly minor deficiency. The rip fence is available on Amazon for about thirteen dollars as I write, so that issue can be readily addressed. It seems odd, though, and the discovery of the absence of a rip fence in the package might lower the perception of value for some customers. With shipping charges and sales tax, it could easily add $15-20 to the total cost of the saw. Of course, if one does not intend to rip, one might elect to skip it, but that could be short-sighted. From my perspective, one never knows if the rip fence might be needed in the future and there could come a time when it may not be as readily available, so my choice was to make the purchase so as to have it on hand for any contingency.I’m so pleased with this saw that I’m thinking of purchasing the Dewalt 36-volt cordless saw as well. The 36-volt tool uses full-sized 7¼ blades and has even more power than the 20-volt model, thus allowing one to cut thicker material, likely with even greater battery charge longevity, but I digress. To be clear, the reviewed model (20-volt) will meet the needs of the vast majority of those looking for a well-performing portable saw without the encumbrances presented by a cord and its not as heavy as the 36-volt model. I think there’s some good news if I decide to purchase the larger model as well in that the rip fence appears to be interchangeable between the two saws, so that assuages the issue from my perspective. Anything I would add would be all good, however it should be obvious that I’m pleased to have made the purchase of this quality DeWalt product.

I had an Injury, and could no longer heft my heavy 7 1/4″ saw. This one is half the weight but cuts just great, so I don’t have to give up on my home & garden projects. I have also used it to quickly trim tree branches!
