Pony heavy-duty press screws are ideal for making veneering frames and are especially useful for deep-reach surface clamping. The large, removable cast-iron swivels make installation a breeze, and the threaded bushings fit easily into a one-inch hole. 11/16-inch diameter, cold-drawn steel screws with special, smoothly cut acme threads provide a tight hold.

Customers say

Customers find the press screw well-made with a sturdy handle and appreciate its smooth operation, with one customer noting it works great for making a glue press. They consider it an excellent value and easy to use, particularly on a drill press, and one customer mentions it’s ideal for veneer pressing and glue-up fixtures. The thread quality and screw strength receive mixed feedback, with some customers reporting issues with threads in the collar and binding in the threaded nut.

    Budget Wagon Vise
New functionality for old workbench. Adding a Wagon Vise was the best option for my old workbench. I didn’t want holes in the main part of my bench because I have drawers underneath that would collect sawdust. I do have a 3 inch overhang on the front however. A good Wagon Vise will cost ~ $300 and would be the way to go for many. The Pony is usable however. Downside is more threads/inch, no quick release and a handle that screws out and can then get in your way rather than being captured with a bearing and staying close to the bench. Upside is it works just fine.Quality is good, it comes greasy and there was a casting seam on the handle that bothered me and required filing off. Needed to file the foot flat as it was domed and drill holes for mounting screws. Not a big deal. 9 inch travel with the 12 inch Pony. I use a double riser spaced at 12 inches so I can clamp the work more towards the center of my bench but still have capability for longer work pieces. I use 6 inch hole spacing on my bench.I don’t think I would put one on an expensive maple bench, but it may be a solution for an inexpensive bench or to try out the usability of a wagon vise.

    Works well
I make large turned platters on the lathe and needed a press to put the thin wood pieces together for gluing. I made a press and even tried a screw I made from an oak dowel to press the pieces together. My oak screw was not tough enough so I ordered this Press screw. It works perfectly and gives me plenty of pressure. This is a good product.

    Seem decent enough so far
I bought a couple of these to build a “vice” to hold work in my CNC Router table in the vertical position. While I haven’t used them much yet, they seem to be up to the task.I am not seeing the problem reported in some reviews with the threads not engaging. Perhaps there was just a bad batch that went out. The amount of “slop” seems reasonable and is comparable to many of the pipe clamps I own which have a similar thread. When clamping them down, the action seems positive and smooth. They came with the pivot for the pad well greased and a coating of oil on the threads. The pivot pad doesn’t have any holes in it, but the cast metal is soft enough that I was able to drill through them pretty easily for attaching to the jaw of my vice. The threaded socket isn’t exactly precision cast. The screw slots are a bit rough and could probably stand some grinding to clean them up. The body of the socket tapers a little. To get a snug fit, I drilled a hole slightly smaller than the fat end, then used a Dremel took to grind out slots to fit the “wings”. The slots help hold it in place so the screws aren’t having to provide all of the resistance to turning on their own. (sorry, I forget the size of the hole and can’t get to them any more now they they are mounted)The 9″ length yields only about 6″ worth of travel when you account for the threaded socket and pad. If you need a true 9″ of travel you might want to look at the 12″ version. Attached are some photos with measurements. All in all I think they are a decent product, though perhaps slightly over priced. They are a little more expensive than a pipe clamp which is basically the same mechanics and arguably a much more complicated device to make. Supply and demand I suppose…they probably sell a lot more pipe clamps than these.I’ll probably buy them again should I ever have another need for such a device.

    Sturdy and works perfectly
This is an excellent product for the price. Works very smoothly, I did ad some grease to it ensure it stays that way. Fit my needs perfectly!

I used this press to make a Side bender for guitar building. it is a well made screw with flat cut threads to make for smooth operation even when under a load. the floating foot works very well however a couple of holes for screws would have made attaching the press block easier.

The small bolt holding the base and screw together, sheared away very quickly. It was an easy fix so all good.As advertised. The real test will be the test of time tho.I would be interested in one with a larger “base plate”.
