When Lance Spector quit the CIA, he swore he was out for good. One more government lie and he would go off the deep end. They could find someone else to do their dirty work. As far as he was concerned, Washington, Langley, the Pentagon could all go to hell.
Yekaterinburg, Russia
A secret Russian expedition returns with a devastating new pathogen, harvested from the frozen corpses of mammoths. It’s the biological super weapon they’ve been looking for, an apocalypse-level pathogen, a virus more deadly than anything ever to come out of a Russian lab. Something that will stop NATO and the Americans in their tracks.
A Biological Chernobyl.
Washington DC, USA
A mysterious vial, sealed in a titanium case, arrives at CIA headquarters. They have no idea who sent it, but it comes with a note.
“I will only speak to Lance Spector.”

Fast action military/CIA books
I am enjoying reading this series by Saul Herzog. Fast paced and riveting from Book 1 through 7. Reading book 8 soon. I hope he continues to develop this series. The characters are well-developed. Havenât read anything this exciting in a while. This series would make great movies. Nine books are not enough.

great read
Loved the characters, plot, and pacing of the book. It was well written and Iâll read more by Herzog. It was a creative plot line and it kept me engaged throughout the whole book.

Good Characters, Greater Story
There were times in the book where the dialog between some of the characters were a little juvenile, but I stayed with the story and it slowly got better, then really good. Spector’s a good lead but he has a lot of help with the supporting cast. Certainly enough for me to get the sequel.

Page turning thriller with great character development
I thoroughly enjoyed book one in this series and look forward to going on to book two. Like most thrillers of this genre, the hero is bigger than life, and probably survives. Things are normal person, even an operator, wouldnât survive. But if youâre looking for a book that is entertaining and fun yet with lots of cliffhangers and tension, this is the book for you

Spy thriller
Very well written book with narration from various characterâs perspectives. Unlike some books, The Asset jumps from one main character to the next. It does not only focus on the main characterâs activities. There is a lot of action and thoughtful plots that I could easily picture Hollywood starting a movie series based on this book.

Solid 3 rating. 50page challenge
It is an easy read and has an enjoyable flow . The ending sets up future storyline. And along the way, i learned I want to see where the next book takes us. Take the 50 page sample challenge. You will definitely not pause at page 51.

What a ripper of a yarn. Couldn’t put it down from go to whoa. The characters were well drawn and the plot believable. And, glory be, no long passages describing the scenery, flashbacks to things totally unrelated to the storyline, or any other unconnected issues that only serve to fill up the pages, all of which are always guaranteed to make me close up shop. In this one there was action on every page. Great stuff! This was my first Saul Herzog book. Can’t wait to get on to the next one in this series.
Geordie Burns –
Great opening book, in which the author develops complex characters but also unravels a strong and worryingly believable plot. I value the research behind the detail and flawed yet relatable characters that rely as much on the incompetence of their opponents as their own planning and skill. Captures ongoing Cold War tensions beautifully.

The first impression is not bad. But.Gaps, holes and sloppiness.Characters description seems swinging in the wind without firm center. What happened to Sophia and Olga, both played rather important roles in the book 1, escaped from Russia to the USA with a CIA agent? What happened to Sophia’s cat? After reunion with Sophia, was it left in that apartment with two corpses, or dumped on the street in the middle of winter? Winter in Russia? And more. What happened to the second vial of virus which was a deathly threat to whole human being? After being picked up, no mention about it. Not a word from the person who picked it up, or from anyone at all. Did it disappear into the thin air? Or what? Now into the end of book 2, I am losing patience to keep reading.
Jacques de Guise –
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. You feel that the author knows the former Soviet Union, Moscow, the details of now Russian political investigation techniques and deception. He mixes elementary psychology about women in the forefront.I couldnât let the book down…and will definitely continue the series. Than you, Author Herzog
