Brilliant bag
I’ve seen others with nicer grocery bags like these, but for some reason I’ve stuck with the standard, flimsy cloth ones for years. The type with a weak plastic sheet meant to hold together the bottom but doesn’t do that great at it, ultimately falling out and getting lost at some point. The type that eventually forms holes even though you don’t have a clue how.I’m not sure why it took me so long, but I got this set of premium bags and I am loving it. These are ridiculously spacious and sturdy, and sort of a game changer. The build is very solid with a reasonably stiff frame when unfolded to bagging mode. There is a sewn-in hard flap for the bottom that keeps the form together, which can be easily pulled up by a helpful loop to fold the bag together for storage.The bag does come across as a bit bulky at first, when you are used to the smaller standard cloth bags that don’t hold their form. But ultimately this is a huge plus as there is much greater efficiency in storing items. You can get a lot more in one bag and, because it keeps its form, it is a lot easier to handle when walking around with it. The stability also means that items are prevented from moving around too much based on movement, so you are less likely to have potential spills or accidentally break something like eggs.The aesthetic is not critically important to me, but I do like the simplicity. It’s not a boring single color nor is it an obnoxious design. It’s a casual checkerboard that could work for pretty much anyone.Because of their sturdy and stiff build, the bags are a lot heavier than I expected. I don’t consider this a problem; I was just surprised at how heavy the package was when I received it, with all three bags together. Three bags is definitely enough for me, considering how much they hold. I am just a bachelor, though, so I typically never need more than one or two bags for a given grocery run.The only possible criticism I have, if you can call it that, is that it would have been nice if there was some sort of velcro strap or something at the top for when the bag is closed, to keep it from unfolding while handling it. That is such a minor nitpick, though, as it is not some huge problem considering you don’t handle them much while they are folded anyways.Before I received the bags and really understood what I was getting, I balked a bit at the price of $33, which is essentially $11 per bag. Now that I’ve experienced them, though, they are absolutely worth the cost. Like I said before, they are sort of a game changer, and I wish I had owned these years ago.
