Worked great with a few tweeks
I am generally satisfied with the dowel making tool for making 3/8″ dowels. However, there is no setting for 1/4″ dowels and I have not used it for any other size. For best results, I made a modification to my setup by adding a pilot block to keep the blank a aligned with the tool. Another thing that I did was to make a V-Block Shooting Board to knock the corners off the square blank to create an octal blank. This reduces the chatter and makes for a smoother cut. I found that the 3/8 port cuts about .010 oversize (.385). Sanding can remove the excess material, but I found running the dowel through a 3/8 shaft collar burnishes the dowel to .002 under for a finished size of .373 diameter.

Works great
Wow! I have no regrets buying this dowel cutter. I just cut some black walnut dowels 1/2â and everything worked perfectly. Cut the blanks square then eased the corners on the bandsaw , drilled and attached the driver assembly then put a slight taper on the leading end and it cut like butter. Donât force it, let the tool do the work. Soft wood may have an issue with the driver attachment if the grain isnât tight enough. In that case Iâd whittle the end just small enough to fit my drill and that should take care of that problem.

Solid Dowel Jig
It is well built for the price – better than I expected to be honest. It works really well on the smaller dowel sizes and seems to struggle some on the larger sizes. Overall good product and worth the purchase.

Great purchase
I got this for my husband – he does a lot of woodworking. He loves it and says it is very easy to use. Very good quality

Product not as described.
Tried to use this item an to my luck it kept breaking my wood in slivers an wasnât consistent in an nice dowel.. video looked like I needed to have it so either I donât know what I was doing or the tool sucks.. I wouldnât waist my money on it..

Makes very rough dowels. But does work.
Makes a very rough dowel. First thing is it should specify in the description that it includes the threaded drive insert. I attempted to make a dowel out of soft pine. Did not go well. The threaded drive insert stripped out the wood. I used some engineering to get the dowel to go through. Then I spent about 20 minutes with 80 grit sand paper smoothing out the dowel. If your using the dowel for a glue joint, you donât need to sand it down. But I was using the dowel for a specific project. So, does it work? Yes. Is it pretty? No.

Works as it should
Works how it should. It didnât do exactly what I was needing it to, but thatâs because I was doing some heavy duty stuff, Not really made for this. Just thought Iâd give it a try.

Excellent build quality, just doesn’t make good dowels
The build quality of this tool is excellent. The machining and anodize finish is all top notch. The problem is that it just doesn’t make a good dowel. A hand drill does not have high enough speed to make a good dowel and the size would vary in the same cut. The dowels improved using my drill press where I could get the speed up to 3100 rpm. Even at this the size would not stay accurate and the finish was always poor as you can see in the picture. The picture shows a factory made 3/8″ dowel that I tried to turn into a 5/16″ dowel. Even only removing 1/16″ off the diameter could still not produce a good finish.
