Not blown away
Bought this mulching blade for my Makita GML01 mower. Wanted to see how well it worked in comparison to the straight mower blade that came with the mower. I installed the mulching blade straight from the shipping package without taking any steps to sharpen it. In comparison, the mulching blade appears to be nearly twice as thick as the straight blade. I expected with the increased weight of the mulching blade it would consume the battery noticeably quicker, but that hasnât been the case. As for the cutting performance, it seems to work about the same as the straight blade on grass, both with and without the mulching plug installed. The cut was clean, even, and didnât leave any âhayâ when mowing bluegrass. I have also used the mulching blade specifically to help pick up and bag fallen leaves. I was hoping that the increased lift of the mulching blade would help pick up the leaves more effectively for bagging, but I didnât really feel this was the case. If you are in to mulching the leaves and leaving them on your grass, I think it does a fine job of that.Being that it is a Makita replacement blade, and not some aftermarket generic blade; the quality, the fit, and the ease of installation are all present. As far as durability, so far so good after a half dozen uses; only time will tell otherwise. Regarding the value proposition, there is no aftermarket replacement I could find for my mower, nor could I find a Makita replacement blade where I bought the mower. The only choices were Amazon or the Makita website, and it was about 10 percent less expensive on Amazon. When there are few choices, you have to decide the value for yourself. I donât regret the purchase, but I wasnât blown away by an increase in performance. However, I expect the durability will make the price less of a concern down the road.

First things first always make sure you order the right size for the lawnmower. Works great no problem putting it on, make sure itâs on the right way and enjoy mowing the lawn

Sharpen first, then install. Good mulching blade.
I would give this five starts IF it had been sharp. I was surprised when I unpacked this blade and discovered it needed to be sharpened. Thankfully I have a tool for sharpening lawn mower blades. I have been sharpening my mower blades for years so sharpening this wasn’t a big deal, just a big inconvenient to have to do it with a brand new out of the box blade. For those people that do not sharpen their own blades, be forewarned that the blade will need to be sharpened before it is installed. Once it was sharpened, I installed it on the mower. Interestingly it seems I am getting more run time from the batteries with this mulching blade than with the standard all-purpose blade that came with the mower. I’m not sure if that is because there is less stop-start to dump the grass out of the grass catcher, or the extra weight of the grass in the grass catcher is creating more drag or what. The mulching capability so far is working fine. Overall, I’m pleased with this blade. If you plan on mulching, this blade is a must over the general purpose blade.

This blade is twice the thickness as the original universal blade that came with the mower. It fits perfectly hopefully it holds an edge better.

Cuts weeds good. Make sure to sharpen blade before using it. Just raise a burr and call it done.
