It is real ironwood and not bad for the price.
It is actually ironwood and it was a decent piece the only complaint I would have is a small piece of outside bark is on it that is the white part of the wood in these pics, but 95% was good so no big deal. It is a pretty good looking piece and it will work well for what I intended to make.

This product is MUCH lighter than the product photo. The one I received also contains the core, resulting in radial cracks that limit what I can do with this piece. If you want to pick out a “nice” piece of wood, you should probably go to a hardwood store in person and skip online offerings.

Beautiful wood!
The colors are beautiful ranging from light yellow to a deep dark brown-almost black. There were however a couple of cracks through the wood. The cracks did not make it completely unusable, as for this ornament I just cut the 2 in.² from the side that did not have any cracks in it. The wood is Extremely hard but somewhat brittle at the same time. I know that does not make any sense however when turning on the lathe, I had a small catch and part of the wood literally shattered! There were many design changes during the process of making this ornament thus the lack of a true finial on top. This is due to it shattering. I believe that is the best way to describe it is shattering! Scared the crap out of me! All in all very beautiful wood. I ended up with one 2in. Sq. block and two- 7/8 inch pen blanks. I did not have my respirator on when cutting it on the table saw but I quickly realized that a respirator is an absolute MUST!! Iâve never really had a bad reaction when cutting/sanding/turning wood. I have turned all sorts of different species however this almost immediately made me have a hard time breathing, so I stopped and went outside for some fresh air and then I went and grabbed my respirator. And for the reviews saying that it looks nothing like the picture, if you have ever worked with wood then you will know that two pieces from the same tree can look completely different!

Great wood didn’t know it was too toxic for pipe making
Super dense and beautiful color. Machines cleanly. Only drawback is it’s pretty toxic and I didn’t wear a mask when sanding it. Got a little sick and a killer headache but overall that was on me for not researching. Great product and would work amazing for most applications just not pipe making.
