Seems to be better than the original (late 2016 vintage) door seal…
I originally ordered this seal for a shed I’m building with custom doors. The cold weather came a bit early and stalled progress on the shed for the moment. But for the fact that 100′ of this seal was fairly affordable, I ordered it thinking I could try it on some house doors as well. I just installed it today, and it went very smoothly. The old seal came out fairly easily (only had to pry it out with a screwdriver in one place), the new seal went in smoothly. I’m looking forward to using it to seal the shed door.Our house is ~8 years old. It was finished brand new in Nov 2016, so it’s still relatively new. However, both the front door as well as the door between the house and garage had seals that were leaking. In the case of the garage door, you could see daylight through the edge of the bottom of the latch side of the door. In the front door, although there were no visible leaks, you could feel cold air moving through the edge of the door, mainly on windy days. Yesterday, winds were gusting to 47mph.After installing this new seal, the leaks are gone. The front door is slightly harder to close (I think until the new seal settles in a bit). The garage door (with the new seal) feels like it closes the same as with the old seal. Other than that, there we no surprises. The extra “lip” this seal has on the door edge helps it seal into the corner of the metal door edge (which is somewhat concave). I cut the corners of the seal at a slight angle (perhaps 15 degrees pie shaped in the corners) to help seal the butt joints of the corner seal. I think that helped.On an older wooden door with very square edges, this seal may not seal quite as well. That is, the face of the door being somewhat inset from the outer edge of the door, makes that concave shape of the door edge making this particular seal very effective against that inset. The oldest house I’ve owned was built into the mid-to-late 1970s, and had this same door edge shape as my 2016 home. My parents home, built in the mid-1960s, had the older square edge hardwood doors.
