Worked well for me
Dethatching my fescue lawn with a leaf rake has always been the part of the September grass planting process I dreaded the most. Last year I borrowed a similar machine from a neighbor and it made the dethatching process so much faster and easier. So I bought this one for myself and it worked very well for me this year. Glad I bought it.

This thing’s a BEAST
So far so good. I debated going with a battery machine but I believe that the corded is the way to go. Just be sure that you get a 100 ft cord with 12 gauge wire. Don’t go cheap with a lighter gauge because something will burn up. The catch basket is almost worthless however. Just plan to come back over with a bag attachment on your mower.

My father thought this thing would never work, I told him that the reviews said it was good.Let’s just say watching me use it on my lawn, he was immediately asking if he could borrow it for his own lawn! This thing does an unbelievably good job for how affordable it is. It only took about 5 minutes to put together after opening the box and we were up and running. We made multiple passes starting at the highest height setting and working our way down the mid height setting and we pulled out two full green waste trash cans worth of thatch out of just our 1000 square foot front lawn. So easy to use.As others have said, just go ahead and throw the bag away. It’s so small, and so much thatch comes gets taken out, you will literally spend 90% of your time emptying the bag if you choose to use it. Our lawn had never been de-thatched and I’m not kidding that the bag would have filled up every 10 feet.My only complaint/suggestion is that the height settings would be so much more useful if they were in inches instead of arbitrary numbers. This is especially driven home because the instructions, which are brief but useful, give suggestions of how deep to go with each head in inches, and you have no idea which height setting will get you that depth since the height settings are just whole numbers, where bigger numbers are higher up and lower numbers are closer to the groundn.

Buy and save time!
Worth the money, worked well, and saved me time… 99% reduction is required raking. After you put it together, test various height settings. I recommend you use after you mow your yard – seemed to work better with shorter grass.

It actually works really well! Pleasantly surprised!
This unit actually works pretty well and I removed a ton of thatch from my yard. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much for the price but I really pushed it and it performed very well. I ran it for about an hour straight, with a 100′ 12 gauge extension cord and while it did bog down just a little bit when I went really deep with the scarifier bar, it never quit or complained. I dethatched first, then switched to the scarifier bar to cut grooves for over-seeding and it did the job well. Forget about using the bagger though, unless you just want to stop every 90 seconds to keep emptying it. I just used a rake and leaf blower to gather up the loose thatch and hauled it away.In all, I was pleasantly surprised how well it worked and it was much more convenient than renting something. Now I can work at my own pace in the future and not be rushed. It is a great value for the cost and I am glad I bought it. Hope it holds up long term, but we’ll see. So far so good.

I received the shipment in 3 days and assembled it in 15 minutes after I realized the upper handle bolts were different from the instructions. See my photos. I used the scarifier today and it worked beautifully. Use the highest setting #5, no need to scalp the grass, save the scalping for the spring or fall when you use the dethatcher. The unit appears tough enough to last. Look at the photos to see how I attached the cord. The bag is a workable size and be prepared to empty it frequently. I used the bag to reduce the amount of clean up. If you are pulling up soil you are probably too low a setting. Although it will cut through high spots in your lawn A scarifier is only ment to thin the grass to encourage the good grass to grow. Do the dethatching on scalped grass in the early spring or late fall
