Useful Guide to Strength Exercises at Home With A Wide Variety for Dumbbells
I’ve done strength training for over 30 years and looked at many guides as well. This book has certain clear advantages for those training at home, for all the exercises can be done there, mostly with dumbbells. For me, who goes to gym regularly, where I use the machines, this guide is handy when I can’t get there—like on vacation or because my day was too full. True, this book is not written by a professional trainer, but still it is carefully and usefully written. One of its standout features is the wide number and variety of dumbbell exerecises, a number of which I hadn’t seen even in larger books. I recommend it either as your primary guide or as a useful supplement. Worth the money.

    well written, helpful tips
The book was well written with many helpful tips. Our bodies change as we get older and so do our fitness needs. The book had many suggestions and examples to help with using weights. I found it informative and the results are realistic and achievable.

    Great for beginners like me
This is an excellent, brief book especially for seniors. Each muscle group is broken down by exercise usually with several options keyed to ability. You can construct your own program or use one of the template workouts. He doesn’t push any particular method or program letting you decide based on what is working for you. Includes exercises that involve a bench also. Many of the exercises can be used without using dumbbells but just body weight. Some areas could have used additional discussion. Can’t wait to get started.

    Clear and concise
I have exercised off and on for most of my adult life. When I am exercising consistently I look good, and feel good. I fell off the exercise wagon in 2020 when Covid happened. I stopped going to the gym, of course and became very sedentary, and now it shows. I am 70 years old and I am all too aware that my legs are not as strong and they could be. That’s not a road I want to go down, so I started going through some of the exercise books that I have. Most of them are complicated and geared more for “younger” people. It’s hard to know where to begin and I started feeling overwhelmed. I am a senior after all, so I ordered this book and it arrived yesterday. It is only 132 pages, and this is good news! It is a no nonsense and to the point book. No gym equipment required except maybe a bench for a few of the exercises. There are sample workout charts that give you the choices of 2, 3, or 4 days of workouts a week. Lots of choices without being overwhelming. I have a full set of dumbbells that are calling to me from the garage. I know I can do this now, and I’m eager to begin. I want to thank the author and congratulate him for a book well written!

    Spiral
The book is informative, but it is very difficult to follow because there’s no spiral binding. Therefore, you always have to lay the book down so you can’t read it when you’re exercising. I would spend more on books like this if they had spiral bindings.

    Recommended
I found the book full of useful information about training for seniors in addition to the 77 exercises: how to decide how much weight to use; how many sets/reps to performs; the relative importance of the various muscle groups for seniors; and how to tailor the exercises to one’s particular needs. It was just what I was looking for at age 72.

Takes the fear out of weight training for seniors!
Live in a private senior village with a well stocked gym. Rarely see anyone using it. Retired 85 yo Nurse Practitioner noticing I was losing upper body strength.Maintain a daily walking plan, but wanted to preserve my strength for housekeeping and opening packages and jars.Searched for a simple, straightforward book on weight lifting for seniors. Unfortunately bought two from Amazon which weren’t right for my needs.Bought this one by Andy Taumann which is sensational. Clear instructions, he points out what to watch out for. Now feel confident to take my book to the gym and work on preserving my strength. Thank you Andy!

Well organised and a concise summary of the exercises – enough information to help you get started with them, some diagrams too. The most helpful book I’ve found on strength training for older people although feel I still need human help in the form of a personal trainer or something to really make sure I’m doing things right.

Don’ t think this book should be called dumbell exercises for” seniors”. A lot of the exercises are definetely not ones that seniors could even do. Maybe if you are in your senior 30’s. The pictures are not even of seniors doing the exercises. Very disappointing.

This is exactly the kind of senior age group dumbbell exercise book I was looking for. Packed full of exercises which reference the muscles worked and has a very helpful graded set of routines at the end. The only slight flaw in these routines was the very common mistake of not alternately working the upper and lower body muscle groups through the set, with the obvious effect of rapidly tiring one group to the point of strain/overwork. I have therefore used these as a starting point but alternating the exercises to suit. Otherwise, highly recommended.
