Half-Fae Elessia could have had everything. Literally.

Since her magic allows her to compel anyone to do her bidding by merely looking into their eyes, the world was at her feet. But after a tragic accident, she is thrown into the Fae king’s dungeons and forced to swear a blood oath to him, binding her to his service.

Five years later, she’s living amongst humans in Ellow and has created a life for herself—as much as she can with the king’s promise to call in his debt looming over her.

When he finally comes to collect, she is made to infiltrate the human elections to determine whether the current regent is involved in the strange things happening in the land of Fae.

With the promise of freedom from the king’s claws, Elessia is determined to see it through. Liberty is within reach as long as she can keep the lethal Fae guard watching over her from eliminating her before she unearths the information the king seeks.

But as she grows closer to the brooding human regent and secrets begin to unravel, Elessia realizes greater forces may be at play. And she might stand before the choice between her own freedom and that of a nation.

    This book HOOKED me!!
4.5 Stars! This was a fun time!I saw a book reviewer doing a video on this book with “why is nobody talking about this”… and pretty much jumped into a buddy read without even reading the synopsis. Haha!Lessia is part fae living in a human realm and secretly bound to a king who pulled her out of the dungeons five years ago. The bond prevents her from telling anyone about the bond, and the King is calling in his favor, dangling her freedom in front of her after she completes a big task.Lessia is a strong, independent FMC not because she’s an amazing warrior, but because she was courageous and resourceful, and she protected those who could not protect themselves. One of my favorite things about the story is something I don’t usually love, but there’s the possibility of a well-written love triangle. We tried to decipher throughout the story in our buddy chat using all the typical “Romantasy tells” who the love interest was going to be, and the story kept us guessing. The uncertainty kept the story interesting and engaging, and honestly, we still don’t know what will happen! Love a good slow-burn with yearning! There are secrets, found family, politics, bodyguard vibes, brutal trials, plot twists, and several times we said, “I didn’t see that one coming!”The ending was crazy and lucky for us – book 2 is out now, and book 3 will be published in August.Romance Content: 1 Open-door sceneClosed-door modification: Chapter 61

    Good Story
I am very intrigued by this book. The FMC is likeable and I really like that she doesn’t really know how to fight. Too many FMC just know in unbelievable ways. Like they trained by themselves but they are an amazing fighter. I love it. Romance was good but not overwhelming. I am more a plot girly anyway. Great read.

New series to be addicted to
In the twilight hours on June 16th, I was doing what a millennial does best. Scrolling reels on IG. All of a sudden, a video pops up in my feed and I begin reading some very compelling text. Here’s what it said:When her ex forced her to remove all his memories and feelings for her, but now they’re face to face again and it’s the one who used to be her VILLAIN who steps in between them, SLAMS a hand into her ex’s chest and snarls, “No. You do not get to touch her. You lost that right that day.”Now let’s fast forward to June 18th. I’ve finished the first book in the Compelling Fates Saga, and the beginning of that text has come to fruition. It’s been a while since a single video had me HookLineSinker AND then said book exceeds any expectations I might have had. I hate to admit, but for the last year I’ve been apprehensive about taking a chance on any new fantasy/romantasy book/series. For a while it felt like they were being cranked out one after the other and there wasn’t much difference between any. This is coming from someone who hasn’t read any Maas, Yarros, etc. I have nothing against those types of popular authors, but the world became so saturated with those works that I just didn’t have any interest in trying them. I know that was a long-winded thought, so I thank you if you’re still reading. All of that to say, this series is new to me. It’s refreshing, gripping, devastating, alluring, I could go on and on. But I challenge you to check out the author’s page for yourself. See if the content sparks anything for you. If it does, I highly encourage you to give this series a shot.OKLOVEUBYE. I’m off to start Bk 2!

    That ending 🤯
A Tongue So Sweet and Deadly by Sophia St. Germaine started off a little slow for me, but once it picked up—wow did it deliver! The twists and turns had me gasping (and sometimes smugly patting myself on the back when I actually guessed one right 😅). But there were definitely moments that completely blindsided me in the best way. The ending was wild, and now I absolutely have to continue with this series because I need answers!

    Three stars
Let me start off by saying I enjoyed this books. It’s not great writing but there’s something compelling about it. Very cool world building. But why is everything so extra. . . And bi polar? Everyone is swinging wildly between rage and calm. I don’t like the love interest, he’s got greasy vibes. And everyone is either hugging each other or touching each other or leaning into faces. If a man got up into my face that often I’d grab him by the nose. I seriously don’t get it.

5 sweet ⭐️’sI honestly thought I’d pace myself with this one. Take it slow. Savour each chapter like a treat.Ha. My mistake. From the very first page, this book grabbed me and refused to let go. I was completely caught in its pull—pulled in by the emotional depth, the absolutely stunning writing, and that slow-burn tension that practically sizzled off the page. I didn’t sleep. I couldn’t. I had to know how it would all unfold. And the twists? Oh, they were brutal.Relentless. Sharp. So brilliantly placed that even when I knew I should be suspicious, I still got wrecked. I’ve read enough romantasy to know the game, to side-eye the smiles and question the too-convenient truths—but this story still did me dirty. My jaw hit the floor more times than I care to admit, and honestly? I loved it for that.Let’s talk about Lessia.What. A. Powerhouse. She’s layered, raw, riddled with trauma, but never defined by it. She has this quiet, unshakable strength. You feel every moment with her—every doubt, every flicker of bravery, every time she chooses to get back up. She’s so real. You fight with her, you root for her and she quickly became one of those characters I’ll carry with me long after the final page. And then there’s the found family aspect—ugh, my heart. The friendships we get in this book? They spark and settle in your chest in that warm, achey kind of way. The dynamics felt real—messy, meaningful, and utterly magical. Every new relationship added something rich and essential to the story, and I was fully invested in every single one.But the deeper I fell, the more I questioned everything. My trust issues were on high alert. Every time someone smiled, I was like, “Okay but… are you secretly evil?” The tension just kept building, and the second half of the book had me questioning everyone, waiting for the next emotional ambush.Now. Let’s talk Merrick.Whew. My feelings about him did a complete 180. You’ll probably start off disgusted—rightfully so—and then, somehow… you won’t be. He’s complicated. Frustrating. Fascinating. You peel back those layers and suddenly you’re like, “Damn it, now I care.” Not necessarily in a romantic way, but in that he’s burrowed his way into your brain and refuses to leave. And then—Loche. The slow burn with this man?? Actual torture. The good kind. You will be swept away in that giddy storm of will-they-won’t-they, heart clenched, eyes scanning for every glance, every lingering pause. Their interactions hit hard—every line of dialogue charged with tension, wit, and undercurrents of something deeper. I caught myself grinning more than once, desperate for just one more scene with them. The plot itself though…Razor-sharp.The politics are weaponised. Intricate. And so cleverly layered that you don’t even realise you’re being manipulated until it’s already too late. Just when you think you know where it’s all going, the ground shifts—and you’re falling all over again. This story devoured me—and honestly? I let it.If you love clever worldbuilding, emotionally complex characters, found family dynamics, messy politics, and that kind of angsty, slow-burn tension that makes your chest ache—then this one? This is your next obsession.Be warned though. The ending.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ♾️Spice: 🌶️🌶️This book has been my most anticipated read for this year and I’ve been completely lost for words… to the point I’ve actually read it twice.Sophia has created an incredible world that’s still healing from a previous conflict. A community with ongoing power struggles and suspicion which inhibits any change of peace between humans and the fae. Elessia is an incredible FMC, she is building a life for herself, a successful business and making friends within a community that ostracises her because of her Half-Fae heritage. Even with a blood oath to the Fae King that when called upon, basically takes away her autonomy, she still fights for what is right. The Half-Fae FMC often demonstrating more humanity than the humans. We are blessed with two MMCs – her assigned fae guard, Merrick, who is dark and mysterious, the definition of morally grey in every sense, employed by the Fae king to hold Elessia to her oath. We then have Loche, the current Regent of the human community who is broody, curious and a slick talker 😏.This book takes you on a journey, not just for freedom but healing and acceptance. There are so many twists and turns, you will be completely invested nursing a book hangover. It’s honestly, a devastatingly beautiful read❤️I’m desperate for book 2.Tropes:- strong FMC- hidden identities- fae/human conflict- broody MMC- morally grey companion- political intrigue- trials and tests- trauma and healing- slow burn- enemies to lovers to….

If you are looking for a fast pace book then this isn’t for you. The story starts off slow. So slow I wondered where it was going. But it’s one of those slow stories that wraps itself around you without you realising and before you know it, you are enjoying the ride. You are wondering throughout the book who is the good person or the bad person and who will be the love interest. Our Fmc is put through the mill from start to end and if book 2 goes the way I think it will in the love interest department, then I’m a little sad for our first mmc 😩Unless it turns out to be a WC then win!
