Solid Product – Easy to use – Clean look with great Protection!
This was used on my beams for deck structure. It was easy to install, went on smoothly, seals directly onto the material almost immediately. High quality deck tape. I have had the tape on the substructure for about 2 months while working on weekends to finish and have had no issues with its functionality and look. Walking on it while its hot provides more pressure and pushes out any bubbles, but overall, very little issues with this product. I ended up purchasing the smaller width as well for the joists and there was enough in each roll to cover 4 joists, while this size covered 2 beams perfectly. Great product, worth the extra time and money to protect the substructure of your deck.

Great material I would by again, price is great as well.
Great product, not as sticky when trying to apply in direct sunlight, also if doing while the sun is out use a glove or roller to press it down you’ll burn your hand if you dont lol

Recommended for Trex decking–easy to install
Take note that this is for the 4″ variety of this product. You can use it on 4×4 deck joists and do what I did with whatever you have left over and cut it down the middle to use on 2x# joists. For my particular use case one roll of this was able to provide for about 60 square feet of decking. My use case being approximately 14.5″ on-center joists with tape only applied to the joists that the decking boards were perpendicular with.If you’re unsure if you should use deck joist tape, well, join the club! There are some concerns about potentially trapping moisture between the joist and the underside of the tape. It was an easier decision for me since I’m using Trex decking and they recommend it. Check with your decking provider and older, wiser handymen than me.The product itself looks similar to flex seal tape if you’ve used that product before as far as it’s thickness and the consistency of its adhesive. It’s not as tough as flex seal though. I expect the black top layer is formulated primarily for water shedding and secondarily for UV resistance. The underside looks like duct tape but has a very thick, goopy adhesive. Surprisingly, I stuck the tape to itself a couple of times working on a windy afternoon and I was able to get it separated without ruining the tape. It had no problem adhering to the joist tops.Really only time will tell how good this product performs. As far as the apparent quality of the product and its ease of use, I’m very satisfied.

Really like this joist tape
As much as can love a butyl joist tape, I love this one. It is so much easier to apply than a similar tape I bought at a local big box home store, both because it is stickier and because it is more rubbery. The more cloth-like local store tape reminds me of gaffer. It also has a stronger adhesive that grabs better right off the bat, then forms a very sticky bond with wood over time. I tried to pull up some tape the day after applying it and had a difficult time. It was frustrating but spoke well to the effectiveness and longevity of the product. I can see how the thick layer of adhesive would seal around fasteners to keep water from seeping in to cause rot.The 6-inch roll is versatile, because not only can it cover wider joists, but it can also be cut down into narrower strips. if needed. Cutting this 6-inch tape into three two-inch strips left me with a tape much easier and quicker to attach to a joist than the typical joist tape that os only 1-5/8 inch wide.

Deck protection
This joist tape worked really well. We replaced a deck that rotted out and decided to use composite decking. Since that is supposed to last 30 to 50 years we didn’t want to have the wood underneath rot sooner so we decided to use this tape on it.Pros – wow, is this tape sticky. It stuck to the wood really well. Make sure you don’t accidentally let the sticky sides touch. You will not get them separated.Cons – the clear backing you pull off the sticky side. It is not easy to get started. It also easily rips so you have to make sure you pull it with even pressure to prevent that. Otherwise you will spend a lot of time trying to get the backing off. While the tape itself is fairly thick, don’t slid boards across it as it will tear.On the whole this tape works well and is easy to use. We ran out of it and had to by a roll of a different brand locally, which I was not as happy with. I would definitely recommend this tape.

Luv this Stuff!
This tape is wonderful!I have been involved in a project doing extensive repairs on my deck. With that said, I have learned from experience. When I built 20 years ago, products such as this were not yet available and as a consequence I didnât use anything which resulted in significant rot on my horizontal cedar material where water seeped between the joints of my composite deck boards. (They were firmly butted against each other). This condition also discouraged evaporation creating a persistent and hidden wet condition, perfect for rot.At this point, I have used a number of different brands of this product. While there may be apparent differences, I have had good luck with all so far. This tape makes so much sense as it lays down with little effort sticks well (with time, it will stick even better after the sun warms it a few times) providing a very effective protective barrier. I use it on ALL horizontal surfaces and inside large notches cut to join frame members. This tape is a little shy of 4â wide and will provide a little extra to roll over the edges on dimensional lumber. For rough cut cedar it is actual dimensions and will not have any excess. It has a self sealing quality to maintain its integrity when you put your fasteners through it. This stuff sticks really well, so be careful when removing the backing in the wind, itâs almost impossible to separate if it stick to itself.Based on my experience, this product is a must for the long term health of your deck projects.
