    Great psychological thriller
I saw a clip of this movie in a short on YouTube.I ordered it thinking it seemed interesting and it turned out to be a spectacular film. Renée Zellweger is excellent as the Children and family services counselor and the little girl in the movie is completely believableA lot of this type of movie seem very predictable – I end up fast forwarding or not watching until rhe end. This one I watched the entire film and even rewound when I thought I had missed a part. It was a great plot. You never know what’s going to happen until it happens

    Worthwhile
This is an interesting movie. The big twist sort of evolves as the film goes along. No big sudden reveal. That’s very appealing rather than being hit over the head with a plot twist. I’ll just say that things are never what they seem. There are some harrowing scenes that are definitely NOT for kids under 12. One has stuck with me. Rene Zellweger is excellent in the lead and young Jodelle Ferland is superb at showing range of emotion. Overall, a very competent thriller.

Cast and acting is good, but story isn’t what I was expecting
Everything starts well with this movie with a hard-working and well-meaning social worker seemingly saving the life of a child from abusive parents. But about midway through the script flips completely and it unexpectedly turns into a paranormal thriller, which is not a genre that’s in my preferred wheelhouse. Up until it made that extreme pivot I found this to be an intriguing movie with good actors, characters, and dialogue — then it turned into something else entirely. Ultimately it wasn’t my cuppa, but if paranormal thrillers are your thing then definitely go for it because it is a very well-done movie overall and is well worth 4 – 4.5 stars if that’s your thang.

    That Little Girl
People are always going to have different opinions about things, and, as they say, one man’s wine is another man’s poison. Some people like this film, some didn’t. I thought it was well done. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen scarier, but Jodelle Ferland is terrifying as Lillith. I found her performance so disturbing, that even seeing photographs of her now as an adult gives me the creeps (it doesn’t help that she always ends up acting in something that’s either horror, supernatural, or both). The only thing that really bothered me about Case 39 is that they named the little girl “Lillith” who in mythology is the mother of all demons, but this Lillith is not. I can’t believe that none of the characters connected the dots once weird and horrible things started to happen (does anyone name their child “Lillith” in real life?).I won’t criticize any of the characters from not running as far away from horrors as they possibly could since that applies to most horror films. But had I been any of the characters in this movie who had to face that monstrosity, I would have left my job, home, friends, my whole life behind. I would have hopped on a plane to the other side of the planet.

Speedy delivery and a great film!!! As the title suggests, Renee Zellweger plays a social worker who is assigned “Case 39” about a young girl who is seemingly the victim of horrible abuse at the hands of her peculiar parents. When Zellweger arrives at the house to meet the family, we see doors with huge dead bolts and religious iconography all over the place and sections of flooring torn out. We then meet young Lilith who appears very shy and withdrawn and looks like she is secretly crying out for help. Zellweger takes all of this into account upon leaving the house. A while later in the film, she gets a call from Lilith saying that her parents are coming for her and that they are going to kill her. When Zellweger arrives at the scene she is horrified to discover the parents trying to lock Lilith in an over and turning the gas ignition on. Lilith gets rescued and removed from the house and comes to live with Zellweger and from that point on, that is when the real drama of the movie begins. As we learn more and more about Lilith as the film progresses, things take a very interesting and dark turn. I don’t want to spoil the film for anyone, but I found it thoroughly enjoyable and got a few eerie tingles when watching it. Not the scariest movie ever made but with great acting (young Jodelle Ferland was magnificent as Lilith and Zellweger et al put in fine performances too) and shocking moments and tension and all the necessary elements for a horror film well put together, you can’t go wrong with this flick. Enjoy!

I liked it; it was fairly obvious where it was going minutes into the film and confirmed not long after but it was an entertaining passive ride to its conclusion. Not scary per se but the odd skin crawling or shocking moment; seeing a young girl being taped into an oven is quite a shocking scenario to witness regardless of context.Anyway as if family social work wasn’t difficult enough a bit of demon is thrown into the mix. I thought Zellweger was ok, she’s not the most expressive of actors but was fine though completely overshadowed by the little girl who did a great job. Some gravitas added from Ian McShane who enhances any production just by appearing on screen and Mark Lester who was a bit under utilised. There are some good set pieces and nice pieces of dialogue but it is all about establishing a growing sense of unease and characterisation. Not sure if there were plot holes or if bits were deliberately left unanswered and ambiguous but I’m not necessarily a fan of joining all the dots anyway. The extras on the disc are worth a watch. Asides from the initial back slapping one there’s short extras on the various special effects. It’s also worth watching some of the deleted scenes as I thought the death of one of the characters was better than the one they included in the film and I also preferred the tone of the alternate ending. It’s good, it’s not a hardcore horror by any standards but it’s an entertaining watch if only for the performance of the young actress. Wouldn’t suprise me if she’s insufferable in real life though.

Carino, molto interessante. Peccato il finale, un po’ troppo “americano”. Nel complesso, però, un bel film
