So easy to use
I have a countertop compost maker and an outdoor bin. As soon as I finish a cycle of kitchen refuse inside, I take it out to the bin and dump it in with the leaves and grass cuttings in the rolling bins. I started adding this with a little water to the indoor compost before dumping it, and the outdoor bin is doing wonderful now. It’s so easy, just throw a scoop in and you’re done! And it’s a LARGE jar, with a lot of scoops in it. Good value for this much.

The jury is still out but looks promising
This starter is being used in an already functioning composter. It appears to be helping quite a bit. No smell, easy to use, and a decent value. The size of the container will certainly be enough to get started on composting. Thereâs noting greater than knowing your consumption waste is going for the good of the planet, so give this a try!

It works!
This actually works! I have an indoor kitchen scraps composter. When I take my kitchen scraps out to my large compost bin I add a scoop of compost starter and within a week I can definitely see a difference. My compost is definitely breaking down faster.I highly recommend this compost starter. It’s a good value for the money.
In my honest opinion… –
Microbes are garden heroes
This has really eliminated the composting odor in my kitchen scrap bin. And it does seems to accelerate the process. I plan on doing a head-to-head comparison using the same scraps divided into with and without containers. Once I do I will update with the results of my little experiment! Until then, this is easy to use, seems to work well by cutting out the smell and speeding up the process a bit, and at 73 uses in one container, is a great value – recommend.

Don’t breath it in!
The review tells this should be used sparingly and spread on in layers of your indoor composting container. It says to seek medical help if you breath it in. NO THANK YOU! I sent it back.

Promising
This year I started composting for my garden. I keep a kitchen bin and use it for all the compostable scraps (my “greens”). I keep the “browns” (dried leaves, some shredded paper) outdoors. My greens will get mixed in with the browns once the bin is full. My kitchen bin seals in the odors, so that’s not the issue. However, my greens were taking a really long time to break down. Part of the problem was that it gets too wet in there – going forward I will start with a layer of browns on the bottom, like the instructions on this product suggest, in order to create a less wet environment (damp compost is fine but wet is not favorable for the decomposition process). Everything I put in there is dry btw, but over time it gets pretty liquid without browns to absorb that moisture (just an FYI for composting newbies like me). I wasn’t at all aware that green compost scraps become very liquid when I started composting, so now that I know, I plan to add a layer of browns as well as this product and see how that goes.The powder doesn’t have an odor and it comes with a scoop. I can’t speak to how much it speeds up the composting process but I’m hopeful. If it works it’s a great value.

My review for this compost starter is for packaging and usability. I believe it is too difficult to quantify how much this is actually helping your compost with so many variables. Without a side by side comparison with all things being equal and a lot of time, I don’t think you can accurately prove this is boosting decomposition.My intention when ordering this product was to sprinkle some of this inside our little kitchen compost bin. We normally fill the kitchen bin and then we’ll empty it as it gets full or really moldy. We empty it into our big outdoor compost igloo which also includes other garden/yard compost. I am also going to sprinkle some of this booster into the outdoor bin every once in a while. Since we already have a functioning compost bin, it is difficult for me to say how much this is actually boosting the composting process.So again, this review is mostly just based on packaging and usability rather than functionality.The product was received in a medium sized plastic jar. There was no external shrink wrap nor was there an internal seal (to prevent leaks in case the lid accidentally came off during shipping). This was a little surprising to me since a powder can make a big mess and this is a microbial product which could be a potential health safety issue. Usability was easy enough. The instructions for use and storage are printed on the jar label. There is a scoop included inside the jar to help you measure additions to a small kitchen bin or a larger outdoor bin.
