To defy the Heavens, he must earn his masters in magic.

For Liu Feng, death isn’t the end. Now, he’s stuck in a new world with magic that clearly doesn’t obey the laws of physics, surrounded by arrogant young masters who seek to advance their power by any means necessary.

Good thing Liu Feng has always been smart.

He can absorb texts and master techniques to advance his knowledge faster than others, uncovering the secrets of magic at a fundamental level. Plus he can bring a level of compassion and empathy only a human would understand, to see things from new angles.

But being different makes him a target.

Feng can only avoid the problems and attention of other cultivators for so long before he must fight. Only then can he become a master…

Join Liu Feng the Cultivation Nerd on his quest to surpass all limits and defy the heavens, shattering the arrogance of all young masters on his way. It’s perfect for fans of Unintended Cultivator, Beware of Chicken, and Heretical Fishing!

    Very Fun
Personally, I would highly recommend this book, because I think it’s a very fun addition to the cultivation genre.I really enjoy the practicality of the main character, his understanding of certain tropes about the cultivation world, but he is also very adaptable to this world. He is a character that knows when to be careful, knows when it’s time to take risks, and definitely someone who enjoys cultivating knowledge. The side characters are also very entertaining, and they certainly fit within the cultivation world. His eventual best friend is also very unique and her own, well, crazy way. I also enjoy the unique aspect on certain higher levels of knowledge, in that certain cultivation techniques are more powerful with the less people who know them.Overall, I feel like this is a very fun opening book to the series, and it definitely subverts expectations in a entertaining way. I think just by recognizing the fact that ancient individuals would be more than aware of certain secrets of the world, that other cultivation novels tend to make these entities seemingly overlook. Yet it also understands that the cultivation world is going to build a certain mindset for these entities as well, so the understandable tropes still exist lol.I think this is definitely a book to give a try Especially if you enjoy intelligent, main characters, and enjoy cultivation novels overall.

    pretty good
The pacing is a bit slow at times. But still feels pretty well rounded. I would like if there was more focus on cultivation itself but it’s a common problem.

Humorous and fun jaunt on cultivation with minor power creep issues.
I really enjoyed this book a lot. The narration was well done and all voices were clearly articulated with the proper amount of distinction and energy. Now how to describe the book itself? Imagine all the cultivation stories that have the so called heaven’s chosen hero that keeps running into amazing finds and cultivation resources while also stepping on toes. This book attacks such a story from an observer’s perspective with the difference that they were isekai’d into the world and have a head full of xianxia tropes while also having an extremely healthy dose of “I want to freaking live and would rather not get involved, thank you very much.”This is that story. It’s a story of a MC blatantly aware that 1) He doesn’t know everything. 2) Despite #1, the world really does present with A LOT of tropes he had read about and he’s doing his absolute best to avoid them all. This naturally leads to some hilarious situations that are quite refreshing when our character just nopes right out of situations where that’s possible.I did have some issues with the book in that, the MC’s “nerding” amounts to reading tons in the library, but still gets involved in fights that he can’t avoid. Additionally, there’s some power creep to where the MC goes from just finding out what chi feels like to “oh well now I can just power dozens of arrays I just learned with the chi I can’t control while omitting several requirements”. That bit really annoyed me because it was an incredibly quick transition with a start and an end but no middle. It’s more like he gets a single afternoon’s training montage with his master and BAM he’s got this array stuff down. That aside, the book was incredibly enjoyable with lots of fun characters. I look forward to book 2 where the MC will no doubt continue to try to avoid the orbit of the heaven’s chosen and fail hilariously.

    Solid read.
Nice take on a reincarnator cultivation. Solid all the way through, including world-building and believable interactions. MC will recognize tropes which gives him an uncanny (to others) ability to avoid danger in niche situations. Rational and logical MC that doesn’t leave the reader scratching their head and debating whether to put down the series after each horrible choice-aplasia most MC’s suffer from. Only caveat would be slightly slower progression than what I thought the book warranted.Stumbled across this one after throwing away like 12 series in a row. Like wheres the quality control in this genre? I propose that we institute a litrpg czar that can strike series from the genre and prevent them showing up in the algorithm. Or at the very least removing the litrpg tag in their subtitles as false advertisement and fraud.

    Nerd?
Earthling takes over body of an outer disciple after dying during a tournament to ascend to inner.MC befriends the librarian and an old man that hangs out at the library.MC mostly reads and trains but also gets entangled with inner disciple politics. Is he a nerd because he reads and takes notes? His progression seems faster than others. The sect turns a blind eye towards murders. The only safety is clan ties. MC is not as cavalier as others towards killing people.Later MC gets roped into contributing to a test for new sect applicants. The test is chaotic, and brutal with many deaths amongst the sect members and the applicants. Some of the applicants have strange powers.

This is one of the more original protagonists of a Western Xianxia novel, he reincarnates from our world and isn’t driven by the search for power or immortality but by curiosity. The paradox is that without any intention to change the world around his actions start to impact the life of the people around. This is one of the best novels found on Royal Road and is one of the cases where the 5 stars are in my opinion really deserved.

This book is why my standard on cultivation stories is so high . It has an MC who is just very realistic and while he does have some advantages it’s all from his hard work . The side characters have a lot of personality through them and he goes through some very interesting arcs in my opinion. Thanks for the journey HolyMouse and hope that this book continues for the better keep it up . Please give this book a try guys not the best at reviews but the book has a special place in my heart .

Interesting world, well written and with a protagonist that stands out in the genre. Good editing, which seems to be a lost art with a lot of new releases.
