Customers say

Customers find the snow blower effective, with one noting it performs well even on crusty snow, and they appreciate its power and quality. However, the weight is a concern as the battery makes it awkward to handle, and customers report durability issues with the plastic bottom blade breaking easily. Moreover, customers disagree on the ease of use and maneuverability, with some finding it easy to use while others say it’s difficult to control. Additionally, opinions on value for money are divided, with some considering it well worth the price while others find it not worth the cost.

    Works well
*Update 2: I’ve now used this through most of one of the worst winters that we’ve had in a while (northern Utah). This has worked great for me. I’ve seen reviews that this shovel can’t handle slush, but there is a bit of a learning curve of how to use, how fast, etc. you can use it, but it’ll handle most anything if you don’t just plow through as fast as you can. Full sized snow blowers can have the same problem and it’s actually a lot like mowing through longer grass. Also, if your batteries are dying, you might have problems. This unit is like the older Ego leaf blowers that eat through batteries. That said, I have a driveway that’s probably double the average around here with a pretty long sidewalk and one 5ah battery almost always finishes. I’ve only done up to 6-8 inches high at the most, so I can’t comment on heavier storms, but if you’re consistently getting much more than that you’d probably want a real snow blower. For smaller storms this is way faster than a bigger snow blower (ease of use). Again, my biggest complaints are still that this shovel is heavy and the bottom blade is plastic that breaks easily, but my lower back just says thank you!*Update* Used it a couple of times more and love it even more. I just shoveled through 4 inches of wet slush that compacted very easily. Shovel handled it with ease, threw the crazy heavy stuff with no problem almost as far and only clogged a few times (with the slush) but was way easy to clear.*As a disclaimer, I’ve only had a chance to use this once, but here’s my experience.* Shoveling a couple of inches of snow when it was powder was amazing. When it got slushy, it clogged a bit, but was super easy to clear and if I just gave it a second to fully ramp up before pushing it into snow, then there was no problems. The shovel is super powerful and can shoot the snow as far as it claims and the directional adjustments are super easy to use. All in all, I love this! Now for some cons that could be a deal breaker for some. The shovel with multi head motor and battery combined are pretty heavy. When you’re pushing it’s not hard to use and you don’t notice it, but if you lift it a lot, it’s heavy and I was definitely feeling it in my arms after. The bottom of the shovel is just plastic and with my first use, it already chipped off around a 1 inch piece so I’m not very convinced that it’ll last very long so I might reinforce it with a piece of metal or something. My biggest problem that I is that because the shovel is so powerful, if you run over a pebble, it gets stuck very easily. I had to stop and break out rocks quite a few times. Rocks are also pretty hard to get out. At one point I had to take a long screw driver and hammer to a pebble to break it in half just to get it unstuck because it was wedged in there so bad. This is probably an inherent problem of these products, not just this specific one, but it would be super nice to have an easier way to clear obstructions. But despite all those problems, I was able to shovel my driveway and sidewalks in less than half the time and without any back pain so a big win for me.

    Exceded Expectations
The main thing that I wanted out of this was to avoid the lifting motion that comes with shoveling snow.We have a couple areas that need to be cleared when it snows, but don’t allow access by a plow, and even maneuvering a snowblower into those areas is tricky when it’s slippery and dark before 5PM.Swapping my pole-saw for the power-shovel head took ~15 seconds, and this thing runs so smooth. I cleared ~2400 square feet of concrete pads in ~8 minutes. it probably would have taken more time just to get a snowblower in there to start with. Even when using a 7.5ah battery (not necessary this set up sips power slowly even under when temp is <10 degrees), this unit is light enough to easily move around obstacles and throws snow with authority.Even wet snow >4″ deep didn’t necessitate taking narrower cuts, and the unit never iced up or clogged. Definitely one of my favorite attachments for the Ego power head.

    Uncharacteristically Cheap for EGO
This Snow Shovel attachment is very poorly designed. The ergonomics for hand placement are not great and leave your wrist in an awkward position. The weight distribution between the head and the battery leads to it feeling worse on your body than just using a normal shovel. Not having the shaft off center also leads to awkward handling of the shovel when doing rows. But the worst part is that I did not even get halfway done with a 4 car driveway before a 1 inch, flimsy stick, got stuck in the auger and completely broke the connection between the shaft and the auger rendering the entire thing useless. For what it is worth, when it was working, it threw snow very far and had very good pickup, leaving no snow behind. But the design and build quality of this tool is just so poor it is not worth even trying to use this.

    Works well, breaks easy
I already have an Ego 2-state snow blower but purchased this for lighter snowfalls and for my sidewalk because it has a step that the snow blower doesn’t work well with. My first impressions were good, as it takes the snow all the way down to the concrete, even better than my snow blower does. However, my excitement turned to disappointment soon after, when the auger hit a small rock on the driveway that must have fallen form a passing dump truck or flung from a car tire. The rock chipped the plastic auger and from that point forward, the shovel has a vibration while running, due to the auger now being off balance. It’s still usable but the vibration is annoying. A replacement auger is $50 on Amazon but I was able to find one for $30 shipped, elsewhere online. I will use the shovel as-is until it gets here in a week or two. Another thing that I find annoying, it will hang up on any and all cracks in the pavement. I have a paver stone walkway and it hangs up on stones/bricks that are ever-so-slightly raised. I find it helps to lower the handle some to change the angle of the shovel scraper but then I get a sore back from bending over. I’ve also noticed that the speed will vary by like 50% but that is probably due to the power head, not the attachment. I will run this on the slower speed from now forward so any hard object being hit by the auger will be less likely to break it. I wish there was a speed adjustment knob like the leaf blower has, as it doesn’t require much speed to do the job. One other thing that this doesn’t have that their snow blowers do is distance adjustment. I must be careful to not shovel in the direction of passing cars, my parked cars, my house, the neighbors houses. This could do damage to property, if it throws a hard object like rocks or even ice. So, overall, I give it 4 stars for performance and 2 stars for design and function, for an average of 3 stars.

Works great with the PH1400 power head.I was expecting it to work with just fluffy snow, but it works with heavier snow as well.Throws snow well. The weight is heavier allowing it to get low on the ground. You need the power head and battery, sold separately.

We’re just in the middle of a second 30 to 40 cm dump of snow in 3 days here in Ottawa. My large two-stage snow thrower broke in the middle of the first dump three days ago. I ordered this Ego 12-in snow thrower and it showed up yesterday, just in time for the second dump. I just got up to clean the first 10 to 20 cm in the driveway. It cleaned the driveway better than my snow blower did, cleaned the 50 ft walkway, cleaned the steps leading up to my porch and the porch in only 30 minutes! It didn’t even slow down. It did that whole job without even wearing out the one 5Ah battery that I used this morning.I also have the ego bristled sweeper that uses the same powerhead and it does an awesome job of cleaning up whatever little snow the thrower left behind. Awesome tools.

Only gets 4 stars because of its weight. It’s something to consider. On the positive side this is replacing my snowblower so far because of the lack of snow we are having in recent years.

It works but after you get the power head on and attach a battery it is way too heavy and awkward. I’ve really only used it a couple times before selling it.
