The Solid Mount is the safest way to install grab bars into a fiberglass shower. Our grab bar mounting system is the only one specifically designed for this purpose. With The Solid Mount, you can have complete confidence that your grab bars will be Secure, Solid, and Will Not Flex, providing you with the support and stability you need in the shower. This is accomplished because The Solid Mount Does Not Rely on the flexible fiberglass shower for support.

Pre-Purchase Checklist. Will the Solid Mount work in my shower? Works with wood studs only.

1. Take a Measurement it needs to be between 1/8″ – 1 5/8″

The Solid Mount is designed to work exclusively with wood studs. To proceed, measure the distance from the edge of the fiberglass shower wall to the drywall. If this measurement falls between 1/8″ and 1 5/8″, you can move on to the step 2.

2. Add Tape

Next, place a strip of tape across the top of the fiberglass wall, as shown. This will provide a surface to mark the locations of the wood studs in the wall. Once done, proceed to step 3.

3. Scan

Use a stud finder to locate the wood studs above the fiberglass shower, as shown. Mark the stud locations directly on the tape. Once done, proceed to step 4.

4. Find Location for Grab bar

Place tape on the shower wall as shown to indicate the approximate locations of the wood studs behind the fiberglass shower. If your wood studs are the required distance called out in Step 1, and you are satisfied with the planned grab bar placement, the Solid Mount should be suitable for your installation.

Install a Grab Bar into a Fiberglass Shower or Tub

Designed for most fiberglass showers, The Solid Mount features adjustable spacers to fill a gap of 7/8″ and 2-1/8″ between the studs and the fiberglass enclosure, So to see if The Solid Mount should work for you measure from the fiberglass wall to the drywall. Spacers can be removed as needed (see image: “The Solid Mount is Fully Adjustable”). 1 Set Needed Per Grab Bar: Recommended for grab bars with 2 1/2″ or 3″ flanges. For grab bars with 2 1/2″ flanges, a 1/4″ white ring of The Solid Mount may be visible post-installation. Installation typically takes about 1 hour. (Grab bar not included). Compatible with most grab bars from Amazon Basics, American Standard, Moen, and Kohler. Note: Grab bar flanges are designed to cover their mounting brackets and screws but may not fully cover additional brackets. In most cases, The Solid Mount edges will show but can be concealed with caulking per installation instructions.

Does the Grab Bar Flange Cover The Solid Mount?

The Solid Mount is not designed to be covered by the grab bar flange for good reason, flanges on the grab bar are not designed to cover anything more than the flange of the grab bar and the screws.

This is from one of the largest garb bar manufacturers’ responses to a customer from their website, “We take consumer comments very seriously and we are delighted to have the opportunity to assist you. The grab bar flanges are designed to cover the included mounting bracket only and are not designed to cover 3rd party mounting kits.”

The Solid Mount will work with a 2 1/2″ flange. However, as the picture shows the mounting bracket will still show some about 1/4″ all around.

The Cover on the grab bar is not designed to cover anything more than the mounting flange of the grab bar. You still end up with a very clean and beautiful installation of your Grab Bar.

What is the tested pullout?

With a pullout strength of over 300+ lbs, the Solid Mount not only meets but exceeds the standards set by the Universal Building Code (UBC) and the Canadian Building Code. Its impressive performance is a testament to the innovation and dedication of those who worked to create it.

Please note that the Solid Mount is exclusively designed to be used in wood-framed homes. The Solid Mount is not compatible with the following materials: Tile, Marble, Drywall (sheetrock), or Buildings that have any type of Metal Studs. Does The Solid Mount work with shower seats?

The simple answer is, No. The Solid Mount is very strong and durable but it was never designed or tested to support a shower seat/bench as a shower seat/bench supplies a different load and sheer that takes place. So please use a portable shower seat, many are available on Amazon.
