âWhen the wellâs dry, we know the worth of waterâ Ben Franklin â Important information!
Hats off to Canadian author Daniel Stein who earned his degree in Environmental Science from the University of Victoria, British Columbia, and serves as an environmental scientist, both in protecting and preserving natural spaces, and in teaching and writing about his passion. His books to date â ATTRACTING HUMMINGBIRDS, THE ESSENTIAL HERB GARDENING HANDBOOK, CONQUERING CLIMATE CHANGE ANXIETY, and now HARVESTING RAINWATER FOR YOUR HOME.The timing of the release of this book could not be more propitious: the media and the political stage have climate change in the forefront of discussions, and Daniel continues to educate us on not only about the possibilities we must address, but he also provides solutions for the ever-increasing evidence of climate change. âWhatever your motivation: sustainability, self-sufficiency, or security, having control over your water source is never the wrong decision.â With his usual candor and accessible manner of writing, he explains the RHS (rainwater harvesting system) and escorts us through the five steps: Pre-planning, design, selecting components, installation and testing, and maintenance. Easy to follow and thoroughly researched for plausibility, Danielâs instructions are informative and functional â and for all of us who have been reading about the post-hurricane and tropical storm water shortages in states this year, this is a book to read and employ. Highly recommended.

Harvesting rainwater
Harvesting Rainwater for Your Home: Design, Install, and Maintain a Self-Sufficient Water Collection and Storage System in 5 Simple Steps for DIY beginner . . . (Simple Sustainable Living) by Daniel Stein is part of a four-book collection all about simple sustainable living. It turned out to be a great resource for my husband and I who are trying to plan for sustainable living methods in our future home to build, and this gave some great ideas, methods, and advice for putting that all together in action. The author makes things clear and simple, so I really think this could be a great book for anyone to follow and learn to implement some of this stuff into their own home.

Very informative.
Daniel I Stein presents his fourth book Simple Sustainable Living in Harvesting Rainwater for Your Home: Design, Install, and Maintain a Self-Sufficient Water Collection and Storage System in 5 Simple Steps for the DIY beginner. I found this book informative, with answers to questions I didn’t even think to ask. The information is detailed, and the diagrams are laid out well. I was impressed with the careful details required to not only obtain rainwater; but also purification options and storage ideas. One thing I would never have thought of is the possibility that harvesting rainwater could be rationed by the area you live. It makes sense, but that is just one of many topics the author covers that you may not have known.

Written by the environmental technologist Daniel Stein, Harvesting Rainwater for Your Home is an excellent guide on ways to save and use rainwater efficiently. We all know that the world is running out of water resources, and once that happens, there is no going back. For this purpose, Daniel encourages individuals to build their harvesting rainwater plans at their homes. The book features designs for a basic DIY setup and step-wise instructions for building, installing, and operating your custom system, including different alternatives to guarantee the ideas offered function productively. Such an outstanding book!

Basic guide. Lacks details, diagrams and pictures.
This book will get you off the ground with rainwater harvesting basics. But don’t rely on it for design assistance. The author’s writing style results in many “choppy” topic sections that are not rolled up into an overall conclusion or summary.

âWe never know the worth of water till the well is dry.â â Thomas Fuller
Rainwater harvesting is the process of collecting and storing rainwater for later use. When it comes to the various methods of storing rainwater, there is a wide range of options. These systems can range from a garden water butt to underground networks that house massive amounts of water via tanks and pumps. These systems can also be manual or automatic, and which one you choose is entirely dependent on your personal circumstances.Harvesting Rainwater for Your Home by Daniel Stein provides you with all the information, tools, and techniques you need to know in order to properly set up a barrel in your garden or to create a homestead that is self-sufficient. You can save yourself a lot of money by avoiding rookie mistakes and ending up with a solid, functional system that will continue to be useful for many years. Highly recommended.

The book is written for individuals who can comprehend very technical field concepts and for handypersons. I suppose that these are the market that are aimed at. The levels could have been tiered (easy/difficult/call a pro/locate a pro with expertise in rainwater harvesting) — and the overall cost could have been depicyed quite simply via $/$$/$$$/$$$$!

Gives you direction on how to. Having a build plan would have been nice.
