    Great battery powered thermostat
Great Thermostat! I had a 2006 Honeywell Thermostat that wasn’t working correctly – it would not call for cooling for a complete cycle, meaning the room was getting too warm. Betting that the old thermostat was malfunctioning, I installed this one and everything appears to be working as expected again. Great value, easy install, battery (3AA, not included) power, easy to setup. I recommend this one.

  2. Circuit Bug

Good flexibility, good instructions. Easy to install and program.
I purchased this a few months back as a replacement for an older programmable thermostat that had corroded battery terminals, but I just installed it in the last few days. The installation instructions were very clear and the installation went quite smoothly overall. The trickiest part was I needed a COM wire to run this new thermostat without batteries (although batteries are still needed for backup), but I was fortunate that the existing thermostat had some extra unused wires. I just needed to make the COM connection at the HVAC end to have a COM connection for the new thermostat, so it wasn’t too difficult. This is a more modern design than the unit that it replaced, so I’m not surprised to find that it has more features to make it more flexible. The touch screen provides access to a good range of menu options, but it didn’t seem hard to program, either. I’m very interested in the Automatic Changeover capability which can switch between heating and cooling modes automatically if needed to maintain program temperatures. I think that may be useful in cases when the weather is changing and the need for heating or cooling is not as clear so it’s easy to miss changing modes manually. I haven’t seen that feature work yet, though. I’m using it in a home workshop area, so appearance is not super important, but it does have a simple and clean appearance, and I consider it a bonus that it displays the relative humidity in addition to the temperature. There is no WiFi connectivity and I chose this model for that reason. If it continues to meet expectations, I plan to replace my other older thermostats with this model.

Very good but main screen is missing important information
So overall this thermostat is very good. Programming was a breeze and although the instructions were a little weird to me, once I got down into actually programming it, the controls were very intuitive. Unfortunately it does not have a swing function that my previous thermostat had, but I’m not going to fault it for that as I should have looked into the description better.I like the appearance of the thermostat it’s very clean and it’s display is minimalistic… A little too minimalistic for me. It’s idle screen displays the time and temperature. It also displays the humidity which is pretty cool. However it’s missing The status of the heating/cooling systems. I’m not looking for a readout of everything that’s going on, but I would like to know if my furnace is running right now without having to touch the screen.Aside from that, I’m very satisfied with the unit.

    Nice thermostat
Works great for a location that doesn’t have a dedicated power wire to the unit. Nice programing features

Programmable Thermostat with No Network Required
This is a nice programmable thermostat. It does not have, nor does it need Internet access. It has up to 7-day, 4 periods (wake, leave, return, sleep) that can be separately configured for heating and cooling temperature. The system I am using it on is a Trane split system with high efficiency forced-air gas heating and central air conditioning. It was a more than adequate replacement for the thermostat I was using.Full (and clear) instructions are provided for doing the setup. 5 different options of the most commonly used heating systems can be configured.Wiring was easy to follow, based on moving the color-coded wires from old thermostat to the equivalent on the new one. The color-coding of HVAC systems are (mostly) standard.

Finally I found one with Circulate fan mode and ability to hard wire!
I found it very difficult to find which thermostats have the fan circulate mode AND the option to hardwire it so it does not need batteries to function. It took me hours to find this thermostat that has both. In my opinion, this is the best thermostat out there for those who are not looking for fancy gimmicks like connecting it to their wifi. Give me a break. How often will someone really need something like that? Most thermostats under $100 do not have the circulate fan mode. You can only turn the fan mode to auto or on. Auto simply means it only runs when the AC or heat is running and on means it is always on. More advanced thermostats have the extra fan mode called circulate. What it does is cause the fan to come on 1/3 of every hour if the AC or heat isn’t needed. This causes the air in the house to circulate and keep each room’s temperatures mostly the same. Without it, individual rooms can grow hot and stuffy due to things like body heat from people, pets, TV’s, computers, etc. Of course, someone could just turn the fan mode to on but it is bad for the system because it needs a break after a cycle to properly take care of condensation and that would also take more power and raise the bill.. With circulate mode the system can cycle properly and only turn the fan on when the conditioning system it is not running for a while. It is a game changer at night time in Florida when my system stops running due to the temperatures dropping outside. My bedroom gets very stuffy and several degrees warmer than the living room where the thermostat is. This thermostat has been a life saver. I absolutely love it. It keeps me from having the turn the thermostat down one degree every night or from leaving the fan in the on position and taking a chance on damaging the system. Also, many of the new thermostats with the circulate fan mode require batteries and cannot be hardwired to the system. This one can be hardwired but can also take batteries. The only thing the batteries will help with is to keep the clock and date correct if the power goes out. It just takes a few seconds to set it so I don’t use any batteries. Perhaps if I was setting a schedule for my system I would go ahead and throw batteries in it, but I don’t use that function though this thermostat has it.

This is an extremely versatile thermostat. Super easy to install. An impressive number of programming features, and the touch screen makes it super easy to program. Very impressed! You can partially or fully lock out the screen. Runs on 3 AA batteries. Has a backlit screen that comes on with a touch of the screen and will go off on a time delay with battery only power. If you have a C wire or want to run a small 24 volt power supply (to power the C wire input), it will stay lit all the time at selectable light intensities. It also gives you room humidity, which is nice as perceived temperature is related to humidity.Although this thermostat has wire inputs for almost every imaginable input, it can also be wired with as few as two wires for an old school furnace like I have. Simply hook your red (or black) wire to the R input and your white wire to the W input. Works perfect. And although I have a simple furnace, this thermostat can still be programmed to anticipate the heat changes and cut in early – if you like. You can program the maximum cycles per hour. Lots of cool features.I appreciated the size, square shape, pleasant white backlight, and ease of installation. It does NOT have a color screen, or Wi-Fi capabilities, but I was looking for a “simple” one without Wi-Fi. It also does not do high voltage switching (120 Volt line voltage). Honeywell has other models, with those features – if desired – see their website. The only feature lacking which I did want is cumulative run time tracking (for the furnace or AC). I had that on one of my previous Honeywell thermostats and really liked this feature. It seems like the only thermostats which offer this any more only offer it if have a Wi-Fi thermostat and log into a website to get the info. Honeywell – please bring this feature back an option on regular thermostats!I have installed programmable thermostats in several houses, and have always liked and preferred the Honeywell brand. Consumers reports also liked this thermostat (Model RTH8560D) for functionality and ease of programming. I could not agree more. Highly recommended!!!

There are reviews saying that this thermostat cannot be connected to a millivolt fireplace – they are outright wrong, this thermostat can handle pretty much anything – whether new and sophisticated air conditioners/heat pumps or really old and simple heating schemes like in my case a 2-wire hot water heating valve and separately a gas fireplace. On the box Honeywell it generically stating that the thermostat is “Compatible with most systems”, which I discovered to be true.I bought 2 of these units, and I’ll save you some headache and/or $$ installing it, if you have the same requirements as in my case:- the first one replaced a 2 wire old mercury thermostat for the apartment’s 24 volts central hot water heating valve. The wires are connected as: black to the thermostat’s “Y” connector, and white to the thermostat’s “R” connector.- the second one replaces a regular on/off switch for a millivolt gas fireplace, and now I no longer need to manually turn on/off the gas fireplace to regulate the temperature. For this installation, the wire connection scheme is black to the thermostat’s “O/B” connector, and white to the thermostat’s “R” connector. The thermostat has an intuitive interface and is easy to set/operate via a nice blue-light touch-screen. Because the thermostat has built-in intelligence, it was able to classify and select the type of unit I was connecting to. I also like the fact that it allows time in 12/24 hours format and temperature in F/C degrees. It also displays the room humidity, which I find to be a plus. The power comes from 3 AA batteries that you need to install, but it doesn’t need much power to run – some people were saying that they last over 8 months, but I guess it all depends on how often you touch the screen to activate the blue-background light. Otherwise it displays the readings on a nice LCD display which you can adjust for contrast. Kudos to Honeywell for a well-designed unit, I absolutely recommend it, especially if you are like me and have to replace some antiquated thermostat with something more in line with the times.

Nice little device. Comes with mounting screws. Easy to install and program. Note that you have to hold down the menu button to get to the more detailed selection options. Also nice that you can toggle between F and C. That used to be a problem if you chose wrong. Display dims went not in use and one tap to brighten. System will increase/decrease temperature to meet you setting for the time you select. If you want 60 at 6am it will slowly increase/decrease to get to 60 at 6am. Nice feature to select from the program.
