Great book, a lot of useful practical adice
I pre-ordered this and it did not disappoint. I have several new planting beds to plan, and Wilkinsonâs advice and diagrams is very helpful. She gives some suggestions for layouts, but she also gave me the tools to create my own. Chapters on materials, layout, play sections, fire pits, color theory – she managed too get it all in there.

This is an amazing guide that walks you through the how to steps of creating your own garden design. She outlines everything from hardscaping and potential stone laying patterns to pots and how to determine what plants will thrive in your space. If you know anything about landscape there is going to be very few things learned from this book. The last ten pages maybe youâll find a nugget or two. There are limited examples, no labeled plants, and the tone/photos from the book seem to be taken from a single garden. I was hopeful for more details and ideas.

Excellent English Garden Design Resource
This is a wonderful resource. We just purchased a small home with no real landscaping, providing me with a blank slate to design a cottage garden. In the front, I want more formality, and in the back, I want a looser feel. This book provides enough detail to address both, from tips on designing the general layout, laying down paths (including materials and dimensions), and finally how to lay out the plants for the borders. I wanted to provide some structure in my gardens with trees and clipped evergreens, and the book addresses this, too! So glad I bought this.

I had been following Pollyanna Wilkinsonâs videos on TikTok for a while when she announced this book and I immediately decided to purchase it – although I was wondering how much more it would teach me than the videos already had. The answer is A TON! The book is super comprehensive, detailing everything from drafting a plan to hardscaping and plants⦠and itâs really made me think about my previous garden design. Must-have for anyone who was born with both the DIY and garden gene.
