Live-In Housekeeper
This has been a game changer for us. We live in a 1300 sq ft single story home in AZ, tile floors & area rugs. One small dog, no kids. Vacuuming and traditional mopping every other week was just spreading dirty water. I looked at a Hoover and Bissell but didn’t want to push around both a vacuum and an electric mop. Then I looked at the i5 and 105 combos but they didn’t seem like they’d be any better than a Swiffer pad. If I was going to spring for a Roomba, I wanted it to really mop the floors.I grabbed the 405 Combo during Prime Days and it’s been worth every penny. The machine was easy to unpack & assemble and the app was easy to use. You just have to read the instructions. The 405 quickly mapped out our home, and I could easily divide the map into rooms, name them and define “keep out” areas. Cleaning starts with selecting the area/rooms and a touch of a button in the app (or asking Alexa to tell the Roomba to clean whatever room I want it to).I can set up “routines” in the app to schedule vacuuming and/or mopping at specific times on certain days. We’ve been scheduling the 405 to vacuum & mop the kitchen, entry & hall (high traffic area) at 5 am twice a week. It is a vacuum cleaner, so of course we hear it. But not as much as my Dyson. We’re waking up anyway so we just close the bedroom door while it heads to the kitchen on the other side of the house. It’s refreshing to get up to clean floors.I love that the 405 does all the work. All I have to do is fill/empty the water tanks (we use the Roomba cleaning solution). The home base empties the dust bin, washes the mop pads then recharges for the next cleaning. The iRobot easily cleans our whole home without recharging. It only returns to the base to rewet the mop pads when it needs to. The tank is at the base, rather than in the iRobot. The app monitors the “life” of the edge brush, mop pads, roller brush & filter, and how full the dust bag is. I don’t expect to need to replace anything for 3 months. This has totally been worth the investment. Now if it could just dust the furniture and clean the toilet…

Works great if you also use it strategically, and clean in, routinely
I read the washing machine saved time for women to do other things, this does the same thing. But be aware, if you have pets in your household you need to do maintenance after every clean. What I learned:1) It’s louder than I imagined (but not quite as loud as a traditional vacuum), but you get over that quickly, and your pets get over the machine moving in their space too2) It takes a long time to map, but once that’s done, it’s great3) If you have pets, don’t clean the whole house at once, rather, set a schedule to clean specific areas on certain times of the week, and do it every few days4) Don’t rely on the bag cleaning, look under your iBoot because the suction doesn’t always bring everything into the bag5) Remove the mop pads, the drying is using room temp, and I found that even with the longest drying, it doesn’t dry them, so remove them and put them in the sun to dry otherwise they can smell mustyFor the developers:- Great job on the bot, once they map the room they are efficient. But now time to focus on the peripherals:1) the electric connection is not solid, when I first plugged my iRobot in, the connection was “wiggly” not something I would expect.2) The tanks, it would be good to be able to open the tanks while in place to refill clean water, without “popping” the other tank out of place.3) The suction to clear isn’t sufficient, this is even after initial “master cleans” to set a baseline and multiple smaller focused cleans in an area- I need to clear out the bot after every clean.4) Using air temp to dry pads is insufficient, and inconsistent. I’ve played with the time to dry the pad but they never actually dry. I’ve removed them, and then the robot detects when I put them back in, and goes on to then “clean” them?!5) Tool provided should also help with front wheel. I bought this just a month ago and see (because I clean out the waste) that now the front wheel doesn’t move. Tried clearing hair using the tool provided but it’s not designed well to help cut and clean hair on all elements. In summary:I love the product, it’s saved time for me, but there are areas of definite improvement. In context: I am using this in a 900 sq ft space with brick floors, there are 2 dogs and 1 cat. I run the bot strategically, over specific areas each day so it’s not do it all at once. Do I need to do things- yes, I clean out the tanks, and also pop out the bottom because I realize the suction into the bag isn’t strong enough, on vaccum, clean it out . The pads don’t dry even at the longest period in places with higher humidity, so best to remove them and let them sit in the sun. The spot clean feature is hard to find, but works when you do find it. In short, great little bot, once it knows your place it good to go but you need to clean it out because the peripherals aren’t as well designed. I bought this during Amazon’s sales and got it 50% off, I think that’s a fair price point.2)

Cleans very well
We decided to upgrade from an old roomba i4+ to a vacuum/mop model. I was hesitant because people were saying how loud this unit is. It is quieter than our old roomba by a lot. The mop does a good job using just water. This model needs to use a roomba cleaner if you want soap. There are other roomba models that can accommodate the Bona cleaners, but not this one. The unit did a good job mapping and it was easy to create zones. The only thing is that I needed to install a new app because the older iRobot app would not work. The new app will not control my older units, so now I have to have 2 apps. I will put up with that as the Roomba 405 does a good job cleaning.

Firstly, the performance of the 405 is truly impressive. It does a fantastic job of picking up everything on both my floors and carpets. The suction power is noticeably stronger than the j series, which is a big plus. Additionally, the new rotating mopping pads are excellent at tackling stains and leave my floors with a beautiful shine. Navigation is also amazingly great, new lidar is a big change but if you have small objects laying around or a lot of wires around go with the 505 instead. The base of the 405 is another highlight. It not only allows the robot to operate autonomously for days but also self-cleans, eliminating the need for frequent maintenance. This is a significant plus over other brands, where you need to clean the mopping pad system often. However, there is one aspect I’m not entirely sold on â the refresh system for the mopping pads. Since there is no water tank on the actual robot, you have to decide via the app how many square feet the robot will clean before returning to the base to refresh the pads and self-clean. This process takes a bit more time, especially if you have a large area to cover. But I do see the advantage of this system, as it prevents spreading filth around, which can happen with models that have a water tank directly on the robot.Lastly, the app has its pros and cons. While it offers some great features, there is definitely room for improvement. I’m hopeful that we’ll see some updates and enhancements to it in the near future. All in all, for the price, the 405 is a strong 5-star product. It offers great performance, a low noise level compared to the j series and requires minimal maintenance.

Great machine, I have purchased Lydsto mop and vacuum before. This iRobot version is much more reliable, and it does help me to keep the house clean. Got it during Prime Day with a good deal

Over the years, I have used many different robotic vacuums. I am always an early adopter of new technology, and the first Robotic vacuum I ever had was a Roomba. I was excited to try one of their newer robotic vacuums and mop machines. This combo robot vacuum and mop machine arrived very well-boxed. It comes with the main vacuum, a docking station, a power cable, a pair of mop heads with an extra pair of pads, and a corner brush. The only assembly required is pushing on the mop brushes and the spinning brush. You also have to put the ramp on the docking station and plug the docking station in.There is a QR code that you use to install the Roomba app on your phone.Everything goes together very easily. The dock comes with a clean water and dirty water reservoir, which are used to clean and moisten the robot’s mop pads. The robot also uses a dust bag when it empties its dust bin. An extra dust bag is included. These are disposable but easily cleaned for multiple uses. From the app, you get the user manual, and it walks you through the setup. The first thing you need to do is create a map of the area. This is very fast, and it mapped the whole area I wanted to use in less than 10 minutes. This robot uses lidar, which is a huge improvement over past Roomba robots. It was very accurate and easily mapped around an island in the kitchen.I wanted to set the vacuum/mop in an area that has a vinyl floor with multiple throw rugs of different thicknesses on it. I knew this would present a challenge for the robot since I wanted it to mop and vacuum the floors and only vacuum the carpet. There are options to vacuum only, mop only, vacuum then mop, and vacuum and mop. I wanted to try the vacuum and mop option to see how well this vacuum detects carpets, and figured this is the faster option for vacuuming and mopping. You can select each room and tell the robot whether you want a deep or normal clean. You can also select the intensity of the suction, as well as if you want to do 1 or 2 passes of cleaning. After you make your selections, you start the robot. The robot announces each of the steps it is going through, which is very nice. The voice is clear and easy to understand. So, it was not time for the big test.I started the vacuum and mop mode and was very fascinated watching how the robot would sense the carpet and raise and stop the mop pads and only vacuum. It did this perfectly even on some very thin carpets. The robot would periodically go back to the docking station, clean the mop pads, and put fresh water on them.I was very impressed with the job that the robot did. It vacuumed the carpets nicely and vacuumed and mopped the hard floors very well.Once finished, the robot went into the docking station, cleaned the pads, and then dried them.It seems to use air to dry the pads, but I do not believe it is heated.I am very happy with this robot. It is one of the best I have ever used and works exactly as it should. The app is decent and one of the better apps I have used.I love the carpet sensing feature since it does not require me to set up any mop zones and is totally automatic. It cleaned perfectly a room with a combination of hard floors and carpets. The water reservoirs are easy to open and clean. You can use detergent in the clean water bin, but I only used water. Roomba recommends only certain cleaners to be used in the docking station.I do recommend this Roomba vacuum and mop combination.
