Great Budget-Friendly Double DIN Upgrade
I installed the Jensen MPR420 7 Character LCD Double DIN Car Stereo in my vehicle, and it has been a surprisingly solid upgrade for the price. The 7-character high-resolution display is clear and responsive, making it easy to see radio stations, Bluetooth connections, and USB tracks at a glance. The Siri/Google voice assistant button works well, allowing hands-free control for music, navigation, and calls, although the microphone occasionally needs a slightly louder voice for accurate recognition.Bluetooth connectivity is fast and stable, streaming music from my phone without major interruptions, and the USB port doubles as a charger which is very convenient. Installation was straightforward with the proper wiring harness and kit, and the unit fits neatly into the Double DIN slot without looking aftermarket. The sound and radio quality are decent for stock speakers, and the EQ options help improve playback clarity.Overall, this stereo offers excellent value for money with reliable functionality and an easy-to-use interface. While it is not a high-end unit and the display is basic, it performs well for everyday driving and casual listening. The build quality feels sturdy, and for under $50, it is a practical choice for anyone looking to add Bluetooth and hands-free features to an older car stereo.

No reception and a ground loop
Went in easy enough. Fit the double din opening a little big. Nothing a little trim from the Dremel on the dash opening couldnât handle. Bluetooth pickup and clarity were really good. Thatâs the only good thing. FM reception was terrible. Every station over 92 MHz faded in and out continuously. Put in a new antenna and cable. No change. And there was a horrible ground loop buzzing in one of the speakers. Just the front right. Nothing stopped it. Went through 3 different fix attempts, including putting in new ground straps throughout the engine bay (a Big Three reground). Loop was internal to the unit. I finally got fed up, ripped it out and sent it back before the return window closed. Bought the cheapest Kenwood, and none of the issues came back. Perfect reception with the same antenna and no ground loop with the same truck harness. Lesson learned. Buy name brand quality audio equipment.

Incompatible with steering wheel controls.
Decent stereo for the pricing, the only problem I have with it is that stereo doesn’t have an input for the auxiliary component that allows for you to control the stereo features via the steering wheel control buttons.

A Cheap Mediocre Head Unit
I am reviewing this Jensen MPR420 Mechless Head Unit as it has died(Doesn’t power on at at all, for no apparent reason. Yes I checked the fuses.) on me today, after owning it for about 20 months, but let’s leave its longevity aside as I may have been unlucky. Maybe yours will last forever, maybe not. I am here to tell you why this unit is adequate, but only just. Yes it does everything it says it will, but only in a barely serviceable or tolerable fashion. Will you be able to answer phone calls with it? Sure! Just press the Talk button. Will you have to yell at the built-in Mic so that people can understand you? You bet! If you use the speech to text or try to talk to Siri, will the Mic constantly misunderstand what you said? Also yes! Basically, the Mic works, but not well. Will it play your music over Bluetooth? Sure! Please note that I only used Apple’s Music app so I can’t tell you how it treats Spotify or other apps. Either way this is probably the “best” “feature” of this unit and it had better be, since that’s why most of us are buying it. It handles BT music pretty well except for one thing which annoyed me which was that when the app went to the next track, for some reason the first one quarter to one third of the first second of the song would be cut off. Every track. Doesn’t matter if they were playing in order if you skipped around, when it started, you missed the first little bit of music. This could be especially annoying for songs that start with an instantly recognizable drum beat right at the very front of the song. This is the only Bluetooth unit I have ever paired my phone to that did this. This unit says it puts out 50 watts but I doubt it. The volume goes up to “40” and while that wasn’t exactly soft, it wasn’t very loud either. If you drive fast with the windows down, this probably ain’t gonna cut it for you. This unit is a good fitting Double DIN with a bright blue display. A very bright display to some eyes, and you can’t dim it at night. Also that display will tell you the time, OR what mode you are in (BT MUSIC, AUX, etc.) and it will tell you nothing else. Certainly not track titles, or radio station info beyond what frequency you have tuned.I realize that I am probably late to the party as these are not readily available on Amazon or elsewhere anymore, but I wanted to write this review in the hopes that someone sees it and can get some value from my experience. If you can get one of these for 40 bucks, or hopefully less by now (January 2022), then it’s not the worst thing you could buy. But do yourself a favor and think hard about what you’re willing to give up for cheapness. You can probably do much better for not that much more cash.

Does the job for a good price, bluetooth connectivity is good, installation was smooth and simple. Controls are clearly labeled and relatively intuitive. Pros – surprisingly good built in mic, cost effective, small size and good bluetooth connectivity. Cons – unable to plug in a different mic, buttons cheap and loudly click, not able to dim front lighting of button display at all (distractingly bright at night for myself)

Coworker bought a Japanese import vehicle and the radio did not work as it only did 76 to 90 FM, so I bought this unit for them: they say it works perfectly, fit in the original radio mounting frame, fits the dash 2 DINN dimensions perfectly, and the original antenna connector worked too. They were not able to get a 20 pin to 12 pin adapter, but were able to splice in the provided 12 pin connector. Highly recommend for a price reasonable option to replace a 2 DINN Japanese radio.
