For what it costs and the features it’s lacking, I cannot recommend this unit
I purchased this JVC head unit back in August 2024 since it was advertised as an L-shaped double DIN unit, needed to fit into my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee without significant modifications to the dash… the problem was the main body of the unit is at the bottom when I needed it at the top. I went with the JVC because I was a little skeptical of the generic Chinese head units. Since the JVC was unable to fit my application, I ended up finding and purchasing a generic unit because I needed something slim enough from front to back to fit in between my Jeep’s 1.5 DIN opening and the dash bezel with some modificationInstead of returning this JVC as I had already opened the box and one of the parts bags, I opted to keep it and install it in my dad’s 2005 Silverado – not realizing at the time just how bad this unit really is for the price. Since the generic unit I put in the Jeep did have its flaws, I figured with this being a reputable brand unit, installation and setup would go well, and for the most part, it did. But for the price of this unit, I’m a bit disappointed that it actually lacks features of the generic unit in my Jeep. For example, for Carplay or Android Auto, you have to connect your phone to the USB port. You can place or receive calls via Bluetooth, but CP or AA require physically connecting your phone. The generic unit in my Jeep supports wired or WIRELESS CarPlay or Android Auto. No need to connect your phone for this functionality. This JVC unit also takes about 15 seconds or so to boot up. The generic unit takes about 5 seconds, and allows you to change the boot logo to your vehicle’s make, something the JVC seems to lack. You also must dismiss a disclaimer message upon bootup on the JVC, though it allows you to auto-dismiss the message after short time. The JVC also seems to require a steering wheel interface adapter such as one from Axxess or PAC if your vehicle has steering wheel controls. The generic unit can direct-connect to your vehicle’s steering wheel buttons if they are analog (resistor network), or use an adapter, and allows custom mapping of steering wheel buttons. The JVC seems to not have a custom mapping function. Oh, and when daylight saving time begins or ends, you must go into the JVC’s setting and enable or disable DST. The generic unit auto-sets the time using your phone’s bluetooth connection. The generic unit has a lot more ability to customize it to your needs. The JVC does do what it needs to do, and with it being a name brand unit, it should have decent support from the manufacturer and possibly last longer. Though I would have liked to have seen more functionality for the price, considering the generic unit cost less than half as much as the JVC. I would not buy this JVC unit again, and am considering pulling it and replacing it with another one of the generic units. I would have returned it had I known that it had less functionality than the $100 unit installed in my Jeep from one of the Chinese brands.

PAC housing kit was incompatible
The kit that was required to house the stereo system was incompatible with the vehicles pre installed air cindiiioning system.

Poor for $300, could be better.
For a $300 carplay system, I expected more. This system crashes often, mostly when carplay is connected before the system fully boots to the home screen.Simple animations and menu navigation have poor response times, and the screen takes like 15 seconds to actually turn on and boot to the home screen. Either some better software engineering or more computational power needs to go into these systems; probably the former.-USB, antenna, and GPS antenna connectors are all pigtailed off the unit rather than being recessed connectors. This makes cable management harder.-I wish they would put physical volume knobs on stereos again; I hate the capacitive touchscreen buttons. They also only glow blue which doesn’t match my mazda’s red backlighting on all the other buttons.-As previously mentioned, the software is not fully cooked and crashes fairly often. You will have to fully restart the vehicle to get it to work againOther than that, I had no issues wiring the system or getting it installed. CarPlay works as expected when system does not crash.
