Just another cool tool to have in your bag
If you are like me, you have tools that you use on a daily basis that most people have never seen before. There is an old saying “the lazy person finds the easiest way to get the job done”. Well, if it wasn’t for all those lazy people, we wouldn’t have weird tools like these. I love pulling this tool out and taking off a switch plate cover while my clients are standing next to me. Just a flip of the wrist and the plate screws are out/in, and the client is taking a double take to see what I just did. No more twisting of the wrist and trying to keep pressure on the screw. Now you can push the tip into the screw and wiggle your wrist and not have to worry about the bit slipping. It is actually hard to explain just how easy it is to use; this is one of those tools you really need to try, just to see how much easier it really is. The tips are reversable (flat-phillips) and you can use your other Klien tips if you need a Torx or square drive bit. It’s worth the money just to see buddies faces when you break this baby out.

works fine but it can be made much more useful with a simple modification
PROs:—very smooth rotation, perhaps ball bearings are in the handle.—one handed operation is easy and intuitive.—more torque can be applied to the shaft by pressing your thumb on the kink if you need to break a switchplate screw free when it’s in there good or has been painted over.—the included ball-detent slotted/phillips combination bit is of high quality and isn’t going anywhere once inserted into the chuck.—the rubber on the handle has the right amount of tack.NEUTRAL:—this tool is meant to be used by someone facing a wall, screwing or unscrewing something into or from a wall. this driver is awkward to use at a desk or bench, pointed down, unless you use two hands in the way you’d use an old-fashioned hand drill. you really need to be able to fully extend your arm to take advantage of the cranking action that spins the bit.—on the other hand, this tool is just as useful held over your head to screw or unscrew something into or from a ceiling as it is when facing a wall.CONs:—the butt end of the handle has a very silly symbol (+/-) on it that does not at all read as “phillips or slotted” but instead as something about voltage. luckily because this is a Klein tool it will not be too long before this symbol wears off.—the chuck is overbuilt and is too wide to get the tool into really narrow recesses. the most common use for this tool will be screwing on switchplate covers but every now and then you will need to get an annoyingly long screw into a tight recess or down a deep hole, often in plastic toys, children’s furniture or the cases on consumer electronics. the chuck may be too wide to use this tool in these cases. the ball-detent combination bit is less than an inch long so it’s no help here either. because of the next CON it is not possible to use a longer bit to overcome the bulkiness of the chuck if you need to screw in or unscrew something that’s down a narrow hole.—the chuck only works with the included ball-detent slotted/phillips bit. all other bits will simply fall out because there is nothing to retain them in the chuck. once you inevitably lose the ball-detent combination bit you are SOL with this tool. this also means that you are SOL if you need to drive a screw that isn’t either slotted or phillips. there are a lot of screws in the world that can’t be used with this tool as it is provided to you. hex and torx are the ones the ones that first come to mind. there are a lot of really long hex screws you don’t want to trust to an electric driver, even one with a delicate clutch setting.Modifications:this last CON can be easily remedied. what you need to do is add a few magnets to the chuck. the hole in the chuck that receives the bit is a little deeper than necessary to accommodate the ball-detent double bit that comes with the tool, so you have to make up the difference with a quarter inch stack of magnets. I used a stack of four 1/4″ x 1/16″ neodymium disc magnets. any arrangement of any disc magnets with a total length of 1/4″ (4 x 1/16″) will work, so long as they are no more than 1/4″ (6.35 mm) wide.these magnets will sit at the back of the chuck, where it meets the shaft of the tool. the magnets will stick to the shaft in addition to any bits you insert into the chuck. in my experience the magnets are more attracted to the shaft in the back of the chuck than they are to any driver bits you insert. this means they will hold a bit in place but will not be pulled out of the chuck when you remove the bit.this is convenient because it means there’s no need to mix up epoxy or buy anything else for this modification besides a few tiny magnets. the included ball-detent double bit will still work, although it will be held by the magnets and not by the ball-detent. in practice this works just fine and is more than worth the benefit of being able to use standard bits with this tool of whatever type or length you need.another thing to recommend this modification is that it automatically magnetizes any bit placed in the chuck. this is convenient as the bits will hold on to the screw you’re dealing with, preventing it from falling into the carpet until you have to feel around blindly with both hands to find it again.we all gotta live in hope that some inspired manager at Klein will realize that the cost of a quarter inch of magnets at the back of the chuck is a price worth bearing to make this a tool that accepts any bit of any length. at the very least it will be an excuse to rid the tool of its silly plus-or-minus symbol.

I’m Sorry, but I Love this Screwdriver.
I totally geeked out over this screwdriver. I know its nothing new or innovative and has been around in some form or another for a while now, but I immediately knew what the deal was with it the first time I laid eyes on it, and knew I had to get one.Personally I feel the style of which you use this screwdriver is easier to use than a ratcheting screwdriver, especially on the wrist, and faster. (except for when you get to the tightening part)I keep this in my soft briefcase that I carry every day along with a 5.5″ Knipex Pliers/Wrench (another AWESOME tool)My BIGGEST GRIPE, they should really really really have a combo pack option available of other common bit types that fit with this….I know they (klein & others) sell them, and that you can buy them one by one randomly all over the place, but I just wish there was a “pack” that was put together as an accessory that you could pick up with it, that way you could do more than just standard Phillips or Flat Head screws.LIGHT BULB: They also could have put a small 6-in-1 style type “end” on this thing and make it THAT much more versatile. I would have gladly paid double for one of those in a Klein. Does ANYONE even make one like that? if no, why the heck not?!?!?I would say the common and obvious downside to this screwdriver type, which is the pretty obvious item with it, but you kinda have to torque and tweak how you use and hold it it when it comes to getting something “tightened” down, or that is too tight to initially loosen. This is really for more about the ease of longer threaded bolts, or machined screws with fine threads, like where you spend a long time twisting a screwdriver over and over and over. THAT is where this puppy really shines.Although that “flaw” is an issue, it hasn’t really been an issue for me, you just need to change your grip/position to loosen it to get it started, or tighten it at the end.Remember People… Use the RIGHT TOOL for the RIGHT JOB, and you will be less frustrated with your tools. And less likely to hurt yourself or damage something.
