    Very nice competent laptop!
Seems like a very competent laptop. Not so much bloat-ware as some systems I’ve had. I like the keyboard and am learning to use the track-pad, instead of using a mouse. There were some problems not waking up from sleep, my solution was to set sleep to Never. Removed the McAfee AV after downloading and installing most of the stuff I’d need – Notepad++, Chrome and Firefox browsers, Adobe Acrobat reader, Apache Open Office, MuseScore, Android Studio, etc. Works well. My old laptop was another Core i5 but it’s 7 years old and won’t support W11. Fast CPU, lots of SSD hard drive, nice display, sufficient RAM. Nice Price, at least before the tariffs!Whoops! No touchscreen! But that’s good! I hate touch-screens and wouldn’t want one on my laptop.

Good laptop after some early TLC
My review is lengthy, but hopefully is helpful.I needed a new laptop after my HP was pooping the bed. I’ve had it for about 3 days of heavy use and I will give you the positives and negatives, and overall impressions.Positive: Big screen, big keyboard, fast (after cleanup, which I will get to in a bit), good battery life, fan runs very quietly.Negative: Mouse pad is glitchy at times, bloatware, plastic shell and finish stain and feel uncomfortable at times.Overall this laptop exceeded my expectations. I have the i3, so I was worried there would be a significant performance drop from the higher core models. I have several windows and programs running simultaneously, and the computer is still lightning fast. You will like this laptop if you want a large laptop at a low price point. Being a grad student and running a business I needed a laptop with a big screen so I can “snap” all my windows and view them all at once. This screen is big enough to use microsofts snap feature effectively. This is a good laptop if you need to be productive, and I recommend it for a student or business man. The laptops materials feel cheap, and stain very easily, but I don’t care about that as much as others might. There are many comments about the bloatware, superfish in particular, and I will talk about my experiences. This computer comes with A TON of bloatware, which can take up precious space, and slow down the computers performance. The very first thing I did was download free malwarebytes, and it instantly found 79 issues. Keep in mind this was without any internet surfing, or importing any other software or programs other than malwarebytes. Online articles recommend using a program called PC decrapifier to clean out the PC but I would advise against this. Unless you really know what your doing, taking this programs advice can cause serious performance effects on the pc, because you could uninstall drivers or software that could actually benefit the computer. PC decrapifier also does a poor job of actually removing the software. Your best bet is to go into control pannel and manually uninstall programs you know are bloatware. After I ran malwarebytes and did a manual uninstall of all the bloatware, the computer was lightning fast and clean as a whistle.Understand that with lower end computer models the margins for companies are incredibly low, which are why some companies are exiting the laptop market. Companies like lenovo pack their computer with bloatware because the developers of these programs pay lenovo big money to be featured on the website at launch. So while this can hurt computer performance, it’s done to make the price point lower to the end user, so you would be paying a lot more for this machine without it. The good news is, all of it can be taken off. The entire process takes about an hour and a half, and make sure you malwarebytes is the first thing you run before doing anything else.Out of the box, the laptop just needs some TLC, but after that it’s a great machine for it’s price point. Keep in mind if you want to run taxing software such as photoshop you may want to upgrade to the i5 model or higher. As i stated before,

Zero Stars- Malfunctioning Laptop, Crummy “Customer Service”
This is my third or fourth rewrite of this review, so bear with me please.I got my laptop in November 2014 and it took me about two months to adapt to it before I began regularly using it. It has some quirks, like an oddly-shaped keyboard, and a super-sensitive touchpad, plus I wasn’t thrilled with Windows 8. So, I would add programs, give it a shot, and then let it sit for a while.By about January 2015, I began using it daily for work. I’m a writer and do word processing for about 10 hours a day. I also research on the net heavily and do some basic graphic design and photo editing. Once I got the hang of it, I loved the laptop. It was super-fast, has great graphics, and the sound is clear.Sadly, just a few weeks into using it (so around February 2015) the “7” key stopped registering sometimes. Then, the touchpad began zooming the screen in when I wasn’t even touching it. Then, the cursor began locking up, as if I was clicking. It did this every 20 minutes or so, and the only fix was to restart the laptop. It also had the tendency to hop between paragraphs while I typed, as if I was moving the mouse and clicking. I was dependent on the laptop for income, and I had read reviews that said these issues mean the laptop has to be sent in for repairs, so I just worked with it anyway… up until it stopped registering the charger.I didn’t even realize there was an issue until the battery was toast. I tried to troubleshoot and burned through the last of the battery doing so. I called Lenovo and they told me it had to be sent in and that I should back up my files. I asked how I should do that, considering the unit would no longer turn on, and they told me to take it to a local tech, just to get my data off. I had been doing manual backups to a thumb drive and the tech wanted $80. I was already paying $50 to ship the thing back to Lenovo, so I opted to lose a few days of work and send it to them without doing another backup.Lenovo guarantees repairs will be done within 7 days, as long as the parts are in stock. Mine weren’t, and they called me and told me everything had been corrected except for the charging issue. It would be about a month from the death of my laptop until I would have it in my hands and working again. What can a person do but accept it? So, I accepted it and muddled through. The month passes and my laptop finally arrives back home. Ecstatic, I get it out of the box right away and fire it up. My data is still there!!! Hurray! But, alas, Lenovo failed to address the charging issue. Seriously. They sent it back to me broken. I’m guessing someone just put a new battery in it and said “Hey, it turns on. Problem solved,” and called it a day.I called Lenovo again and they told me I had to send it back. Oh. Heck. No. No. No. I told them they needed to send me a new laptop. They said they would escalate my issue and have a manager get back to me. Managers are allowed to take up to 30 days to investigate before contacting a person back. WTF? Really? Really??? (My apologies to the tech who had to tell me that.) At any rate, it took far less time than that, probably less than a week before the manager called me the first time. But, then she drug her feet, didn’t return calls, didn’t respond to emails promptly, and it ended up being stretched out longer than it should have. She said I couldn’t have a new laptop, but that they’d send a tech to my home to repair it. Ok, Lenovo, works for me.The tech (a third-party hired by Lenovo) arrives a few days later and replaces my motherboard. He fires it up and the computer fries. He says they usually replace several parts when replacing a motherboard, but that Lenovo only sent the motherboard, so that’s all he could do. He orders more parts and the next week, a second tech comes out with all the necessary parts. He fires it up and all is well, but he runs a scan and says my hard drive is failing. He orders a new hard drive and says a tech will contact me when it arrives and they can do the repair. This takes about another week, but thankfully, I am finally able to at least use the laptop. It’s then that I discover that the mouse is still freaking out. It still freezes, locks up, hops between paragraphs, etc. I figure the new hard drive will take care of this. The third tech comes out and replaces the hard drive. My laptop is finally fully-functional… except that it’s not. The mouse still locks up from time to time, as if I’m clicking on something, and I have to restart the laptop.I have now lost two months of productivity due to poor quality parts and crappy customer service. I’m sure it cost Lenovo far more to send out techs and perform repairs than it ever would have cost them to replace the darn thing, and certainly far more than it would have cost them to deliver a high-quality product to begin with. If this is their business model, more power to them. No doubt, the business will go under behaving this way. Regardless of how long they manage to stick around, I will never EVER EVER buy another Lenovo product and I urge anyone who is considering a purchase to research not only the product, but the company’s history as to how they handle complaints. These poor reviews say something here. They’re not flukes. I wanted to believe they were- that people just didn’t understand technology, or had poor interpersonal skills with customer service. Nope. This is a trend. This is how Lenovo operates. Best of luck to you if you decide to buy. You’ll certainly need it.

Adorei!
