This heavy-duty drill guide serves as a portable drill press guide when the work is too large or awkward to take to the drill press table. The 1/2″ keyed chuck accepts larger and longer drill bits, hole saws, and spade bits. The chuck also spins effortlessly with the help of its dual ball bearing design. To ensure accurate and precise results, the extruded guide head is fit with bronze bushings to the keep the drill bit on target. Aligning the DrillMatePRO™ couldn’t be easier with all of the available centering options. Convenient centering lines machined into the base makes it easy to hit the mark every time. For increased precision, drop in the included alignment disk for pin-point accuracy. The V-Grooves in the base not only help center the DrillMatePRO™ but also allow for round stock to sit stable when drilling holes. Additionally, two included centering pins can be used either on top or beneath the base for simple twist and center drilling. With the unique independent depth stop system on the DrillMatePRO™ it’s possible to drill to the exact same depth every time, while the springs prevent a heavy drill and bit falling onto the work piece. The dual spring design helps control drilling, and returns and supports the drill when not in use. They can also be removed to achieve greater drilling depth. The guide head can be locked in place when changing bits, or, when in use without the springs. The angle adjust allows for infinite angles off of vertical from 0 degree to 60. The wide base provides plenty of clamping room to keep the guide in place when drilling complicated angles, and the rubber feet on the base prevent slipping and marring on the workpiece. Not intended for use with impact drivers or hammer drills.

Nice alternative to drill press – and more compact.
I really like this so far:Pros:- Well built- Good alignment “cross hairs” red plastic insert makes lining up bit easy.- Depth stop- A bit less costly than the Rockler and Woodpeckers models.- Dual springs makes operation more balanced.- Rubber pads on base and weight of the stand keep it nice and stable for drilling operations.- Easy to set up.- Easy out of the box assembly.Cons:- The old timey chuck key is a bit of a pain to use. I feel chuck could be better with a keyless model (or as an option perhaps)- The depth stop could benefit from a simple “gauge” to set the basic depth easily. The drill stand Festool makes has a neat simple one I have seen and would be good on this one. Perhaps I will make myself a 3Dprinted version to upgrade this. If Milescraft reads this – they could make it for the 2.0 Pro version of Drillmate. Would not be too costly in my opinion and differentiate from competitors.I think there are probably some options that could also improve the value of this tool … a vise, and other useful jigs to hold your workpiece, different centering pins, etc. Milescraft may be thinking of those?I have used with my M12 milwaukee drill and made a series of holes so far – including some larger forstner bit holes. It works very well and I am pleased with my purchase. I don’t have a drill press and the urge to have one now has been reduced to about zero.I recommend this product, but try to score it when they have it on promotion – I got it 25$ off the usual price by being patient.

Sturdy, large base, well made, spring balanced
This is the upgraded version of their drill guide. What’s different? larger base, springs on the rods to control the drill weight, depth stop the uses a rod instead of clamping on the guide post, and a nicer drill chuck. Sounds crazy, but I like the removable little plastic indicator of where it going to drill, exactly, and…it works. There is enough base to get a grip for your clamps and a threaded spot to keep the centering pins as well as a hold beside the guide rod to keep the drill chuck key.What caused me to purchase this was to drill 3/4″ holes in my 3″ thick work bench for bench dogs. It needs to be straight, and you basically only get one shot. This did the trick without issue. The torque of the 3/4″ wood owl bit and drill went without a hitch. It’s a good drill guide at a fair price, well made and balanced, and I like the springs to help with the drill, and decent handle if your not going to clamp it down.

Useful, well-designed tool
I needed to cut a 1.1″ hole in my front door to install a peephole viewer. Simple thing, but it had to be perfectly straight or I’d ruin a very expensive door. I couldn’t find a drill guide for a diameter that big, my drill press wasn’t feasible for that application, and this was the only reasonably priced thing I could find. It’s well designed, good quality, and worked great for that application. Given the risk/reward it was an excellent investment. If I didn’t already own a drill press it’d be a solid substitute for many more use cases, one that’s highly functional but massively less expensive. I don’t know if I’ll ever need it again given my existing tool suite, but I’m glad I got it nonetheless. It’s comparable to Rockler’s award-winning product but a little cheaper and comparably less expensive.

A little clunky, a little heavy, a little overengineered? But, it gets the job done. The chuck slipped/dropped off, maybe 2 times, but a smack with a dead blow hammer solved the problem. Used this to drill multiple holes for a table/bench. I like this as a portable/mobile drill press. Cheaper than some of the competition.

Edit: Well, forget about any help from this company if they sell you a defective product. They will not answer their customer support line. No matter what time of day I called, they sent me to a voicemail and promised to call me back. They didnât. I have tried every possible user intervention to get the chuck to stop releasing the bit, but it really is defective. I just need them to send me a new chuck that works. Of course, if the company will not communicate with you when you have a problem, then youâre really out of luck. I cannot recommend this product, or anything else from Milescraft.Original ReviewI bought this to drill bench dog holes in a workbench I am building. It is solid and feels like a quality product. All the moving parts adjust well and it is easy to set a fixed depth for the holes. There is just one problem; it keeps dropping the bit from the chuck. I grew up using keyed checks, so I know how to tighten a bit, but this chuck just wonât hang onto a bit.Iâve gotten so paranoid about it that I cycle through the three holes with the chuck key twice to be sure itâs really solid. Nevertheless, within a few minutes, the chuck has open up and dropped the bit out. Iâm using a 3/4â spade bit.I have a call in to the company to see if they have any suggestions. If they come back with a solution, I will edit this review and probably add stars back. This would be a five star product if it would just hold onto the bit, but as is, it is not only frustrating to use, but it sometimes damages the hole when the bit falls out. I am hoping that I have a defective chuck because I really want this one to work out.
