Powerful Compute in an Efficient Package – Proxmox Cluster Node
I’ve always been one to buy decommissioned enterprise gear for my homelab but I had a need to add an additional Proxmox cluster node in the house, around people, so I wanted something more human friendly. Looking over all the options, MINISFORUM seemed to offer a wide range of combinations of technology and the most difficult decision was which processor/ram/architecture I wanted. I ended up choosing the NAB9 w/ Core i9-12900HK specifically for the Cores/Threads and clock it ran at with 32gb of RAM. This should be plenty to play host to infrastructure VMs to maintain HA. I am using the 2.5gb LAN ports as one for the VM network and one for the Storage network. With how fast it is, you can’t even tell that the VM’s disks are in another building on a NAS when it serves a site from the VM on the NAB9. It boots very quickly and is completely silent and it doesn’t seem to generate much heat, if any. In my case, I unboxed it, plugged in the KVM and network, connected my Proxmox USB Bootable installer, and went from new to cluster member in under 30 minutes making it very easy to use! I do have to bring up one small issue. A few weeks after I had it up and running it suddenly turned off and wouldn’t turn back on. I know this sounds bad but it’s actually a testament to how supportive MINISFORUM is. I opened a support ticket and had an email response within hours, not days! We performed the troubleshooting steps and emailed back and forth that next day before I was given the greenlight for a repair. The speed of their service and support was way beyond my expectations! I sent in the NAB9 and counting travel to there, from there, and fixing it, was 5 days. Under 1 week and I had the machine back and up and running! Since the repair I wanted to wait a bit to make certain everything stayed good before I left my review. But now it’s time. I’ve had the NAB9 running 24×7 since I got it back several months ago and it’s been amazing. So much so, that I forget I have it running in the house. I haven’t had to do any fiddling or anything. It’s great and just works. I feel that I can confidently say now that it’s high quality and an excellent value for how much compute you get for the price. Thank you MINISFORUM, this device has filled a specific need for me perfectly.

âMinisforum UM880 Plus: A Compact Powerhouse with Excellent Support
The Minisforum UM880 Plus is a seriously cool mini PC. I initially bought it to replace my son’s aging all-in-one (AIO) desktop, which had become painfully slow with the software he uses. My first thought was to stick with the AIO format to save space under the desk. After researching the current market, I realized that a typical 27-inch, 1080p AIO with average specsâlike an AMD Ryzen 5, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSDâwould run me around $1,000 after tax.âA quick bit of research led me to a much better solution: buying a mini PC with significantly superior hardware and pairing it with a nice 27-inch 4K monitor. This combination not only delivered a similar compact footprint but also cost me several hundred dollars less.âAfter comparing brands like Beelink, GMKTEC, and Minisforum, I settled on the Minisforum UM880 Plus. I was impressed by its powerful, future-proof hardware (including an OCuLink port!) offered at a reasonable price point. We were happy users for about four months (since mid-April 2025) with absolutely no issues. The performance was fantastic.âThen, one day, my son told me the mini PC wouldn’t turn on. That was my single biggest moment of frustration with the product.âFortunately, Minisforum’s customer service was exceptionally fast and reassuring. They quickly sent me a FedEx shipping label and promised the repair would take only about 48 hours at the US located repair center. I was genuinely surprised when I received a text from FedEx confirming an upcoming delivery just a few days later.âThe repaired mini PC was delivered the next day. I tested it, and we haven’t had any issues since.âI’d like to extend a big thank you to Andy, the Minisforum customer representative. He was incredibly responsive to all my questions and ensured the entire repair process was smooth and stress-free.âFinal Verdict:âWould I buy this mini PC again? At this moment, my answer is a definitive yes. The combination of top-tier hardware, compact size, and outstanding customer support makes the UM880 Plus an easy recommendation.

Great to use as a server/node, case disassembly was a bit disappointing.
This PC is pretty awesome. I am using it as a Kubernetes node, and it performs spectacularly. My only big complaint was that in order to take the case apart to install an SSD/RAM, you have to remove the feet on the bottom of the device. The feet are adhered to it with some form of adhesive and that adhesive will wear out over time, preventing the feet from ever sticking again. They only included 2 replacement feet in the box but you need to remove all 4 to take apart the case.

Great product, unfortunate about the choice of the Mediatek WiFi card that’s not supported on Linux. I had to get a USB WiFi adaptor to have a functional WiFi
