Not perfect, but did help with repairs. It effectively transfers the hammer blow to the nail up under shingle. If you’re any good with a hammer at all, you can hide the nail without banging up the shingle.

A nifty little tool.
This is a nifty little tool, this little tool works pretty much like it shows. It is a little smaller than i was expectinf but i was using it to nail down drip edge under a metal roof with out having to unscrew the whole thing and it worked perfectly.

Quick and convenient, makes a hard job easy
I was delighted at how easy it was to pull up shingles that had been there 20 years and were stuck together. I had to use the tool in several places, and it came right up. The angle is perfectly designed to allow you to go straight under the shingles without scraping your hands on the shingles below. A real winner. Also works well for removing the nails.I tried putting nails in, and it was much easier than holding the nails with my fingers. The slot holds the nail well as I place it, then I can hammer it in. It was especially nice when installing nails underneath existing shingles: The offset design allowed me to slide the nail back under the upper shingle and hold it there while nailing it. Using this tool for hammering would ideally be done with three hands – one for the this tool, one for the hammer, and one for the nails. But my roof has low enough slope I could just set the hammer down between strikes. It would also be fine if your hammer could be quickly put into and out of your tool belt, or if you could easily get nails out of the nail pouch without putting down the hammer. Even so, using this tool is much better than trying to hold a roofing nail under an existing shingle with your fingers.

It does what it’s supposed to do. Only reason for 4 stars is that the V notch for installing nails is in no way big enough for roofing nails, I’ll probably have to modify it when I get to that point.
