A buy it for life design – but only one year warranty. Will update with any issues I encounter.
There aren’t many buy it for life products out there these days. When I opened up the filter and saw it said “replace once every 20 years”, I was stunned – and knew I found a rare example of one.The promise of the Nuwave Forever is that everything is designed to last and be reused – with washable filters, easy cleaning, and effective filtration. And so far, it stands up to that promise with many telltale signs of thoughtful design to back it up. The filters are very easy to access and remove with a back panel, feel very sturdy, and can be washed easily in a sink. The product is designed in the United States and made in France, and was very easy to get up and running immediately. Although it is app-powered, and has smart capabilities, it is not, like many other smart devices, app required. This addresses one of my immediate concerns with any smart device – how long can any smart device possibly last when apps are so fast paced and disposable? The Forever answers this question by making all functionality intuitive and easy to access via the front panel buttons. I also like the light, which quickly tells me what the air quality in the room is like at any given time.The app itself makes it easy to monitor and control the device from afar or across the room, and has a helpful reminder to clean the air filters periodically, as well as a way to reset the filter notification once you’ve cleaned it. If you’re sensitive to noise, like I am, the unit itself does not make a lot of noise, and you can reduce it further by disabling beeps.All of this would be for naught if the unit wasn’t effective – and with an open floor plan, five pets, and two voracious cooks in the house, it has a lot to keep up with. Immediately on starting, the unit noticed the air was only moderate quality, and brought it down to a clean level within the hour. Over the past week, it has kept the house smelling clean and clear without any issue. I know it is working and detecting when the air needs filtration because it goes into high gear when I cook, especially with frying oil. And it truly has noticeably helped with the “oil smell” you get after pan frying your dinner. It is not small, but also not as large as you might expect for such a large coverage area. Mine tucks nicely behind a chair in my living room, and is about two thirds the height of a standard step stool.Whether or not this stands up to the name of Forever is something I’ll only be able to tell with time – but I have to say, no other product I’ve bought in recent history has convinced me it will definitely have a lifespan longer than five years. The zero waste approach they’ve taken is both convenient and successful in terms of usability and maintenance. I don’t have to fill up my trash with old filters, and as someone who has to pay by the bag, that’s a huge deal.The only thing I dislike is that Nuwave only provides a one year warranty for this unit – a surprise given the emphasis on zero waste and quality build. I would have liked to see this be backed by a more reasonable five year warranty given the price. A one year warranty on a $500 product – from a 30 year old company – is quite the risk to put on the customer. But if this pans out as advertised, I think it’s worth every penny and will likely purchase another for my basement. As long as this product does not fail within the next five years, I’ll be happy to maintain the five star rating. And if it doesn’t, you’ll see an update here.
