Charcoal filters for compost countertop container
Fits well in my countertop composting container

Good sized. thick filter. Lack of air-tight packaging may affect shelf life and effectiveness
These Charcoal filters are designed to help neutralize odors in kitchen compost bins. I use them both for my compost bin and my kitchen trash can and they are effective in reducing unpleasant odors in a natural and non-toxic way. I like that these filters are thick. The oval shape fits particularly well in my garbage bin. Here I just use double sided tape and attach the filter directly to the garbage can lid..I have subtracted 1 star because the lack of airtight or even plastic packaging will reduce both the shelf life and longevity of these filters. I received the filters packaged together loosely in a white light-weight paper box exposed to air with no plastic, mylar,, or other air tight or air resistant packaging. When left exposed to the air, activated charcoal can become fully adsorbed very quickly â especially if the air si high in pollutants or humidity. Once activated charcoal fills to capacity it loses its ability to adsorb new substances â thus making it useless for odor filtering. If stored in airtight packaging, activated charcoal will last forever without losing effectiveness. If stored in plastic packaging, moisture and contaminants from the air will slowly pass through, causing the activated charcoal to lose effectiveness. Because of this, many activated charcoal products have a listed shelf life of 1 to 3years.If left exposed to the air, activated charcoal could become fully adsorbed very quickly â especially if the air was high in pollutants or humid.

Oval filters, that do the job of keeping the smells in!
I had been using the pack of filters that came with my compost urn for *way* longer than I should, and ran out a while back. The wife fashioned a ‘paper towel’ temporary fix, but honestly – as you can see from the photo it gets rather unsavoury.First thing to note: These filters are oval. In my excitement at finding them, I glossed over this. Fortunately, they fit my lid perfectly, with a bit of a bend, and a squish inside! They’re fairly thick, and I can attest that they do the job of keeping the smells from escaping my urn. So, 5/5 for doing the job, and doing it cheaply.
