    Excellent Matter Light
Connects to Hue Bridge and Alexa/Homekit. I originally bought the larger version of this light, but it was way too big for my bathroom—it just overwhelmed the space. Swapped it for the smaller size, and it’s perfect. Bright enough to fully light the room, and the smart features are exactly what you’d expect from Philips Hue. Easy to set scenes, control by voice, or just vibe with different color temps. If you’re upgrading a bathroom or smaller room, skip the jumbo version and go with the compact one—it still delivers plenty of light.

May require you to drill a couple of small holes in the ceiling.
Nice light, it’s really 2 lights – top light and bottom light. If you use this with Alexia you will have to say Alexia turn on bottom or top light. The same when changing colors. The colors are nice. The one thing I dislike about this light is that it is not designed to mount to your jbox where the old light was- you have to drill the ceiling and install plugs. I know it’s not hard but when you remove this light to install your next light you may need to repair the Ceiling.

    Awesome!
I have bought other hue ceiling lights before but this one is super cool! I don’t remember seeing this but this light has 2 lights in one fixture. The backlight is a separate light from the light facing the floor. I don’t know what happened in shipping but it appeared like 3 fasters were missing. I took one to HomeDepot and got replacement ones for them for under 5 bucks. But after that it worked awesome

You might need to get a little creative with the installation.
Mounting the backplate to the ceiling was a little challenging. The holes didn’t line up with the 8/32s of the ceiling jbox so I had to improvise, placing holes in the backplate and screwing it directly to a joist (I would have preferred to secure it to two joists, but the back plate is not 16 inches wide so it didn’t span two) and I used wide fender washers to distribute the weight of the fixture. The fixture is fairly heavy and I’m not sure I would trust it to just a couple of 8/32s on a standard light fixture j box, honestly, even if the holes had lined up for that. Then, since I mounted the backplate to a joist (centered) the wiring hole was blocked by that joist, so I then had to create a new hole for the wiring to pass through. It ended up working out alright and I felt like I had a sturdy setup when I was done, but I do feel like the installation could have been given more consideration. The light has a tiny delay, so it comes on a fraction of a second after you flip the switch, which is especially noticeable if you have other fixtures on the same switch leg circuit, and interestingly, when you flip the switch off the light glows green for an instant before it goes completely dark.Interesting and weird.BUT it provides a MUCH brigher light for the room than what I had before. No question that the light quality is vastly improved with this light fixture. You could do a lot worse!

Really nice looking addition to the Hue system — might not be so DIY though
I have a lot of Hue devices. By a lot, I mean I need three Hue hubs to manage it all. So I’m pretty experienced with the platform — and pretty heavily invested into it. Overall, I’m a fan of Hue products, but they are not perfect and some are better than others. And some are quite pricey! So on to this particular light…I wanted a ceiling light fixture and figured I’d check what was available in the Hue ecosystem, seeing this as a newer option. I’m always a bit mixed on whether I want a fixture that is harder to control with a normal physical switch, but since I had other Hue devices off of a Hue physical dimmer in that room, I thought I’d give this a try.Recognizing the Hue pros and cons, my impressions have been very favorable. But first, note that this is a big boy and requires a heavier duty ceiling mount than a smaller, lighter fixture. Since I didn’t have a ceiling fixture to replace, I had to hire an electrician to run wires to my ceiling — this one was just beyond my DIY comfort level. The electrician ended up putting in a ceiling fan box mount given the weight of the unit. That’s good for future flexibility for me, in case I ever want to replace this with a fan. But just note that if you are simply replace something very light, you might need to upgrade the ceiling junction box.Once it was installed, I was really pleased with how it looked. It’s quite low profile, albeit relatively large in diameter. But it’s not overwhelming the room by any stretch, even in a smallish room. When I went to the Hue app to integrate it into my system, I was surprised to see there were two lights found. One is for the down light — e.g., the obvious downward facing circular light. One is for the upward facing light that surrounds the perimeter and lights the ceiling in a ring around the unit. You can control each separately, as if they were two separate units, which is nice. And you have the full complement of color and white temperature controls, so you can create just about any combination of lighting effects. That’s really nice. The main downlight does put out some pretty good brightness. It’s not like operating room brightness at its max, but more than enough for my needs. But it’s also a very uniform brightness across the entire circle of the fixture. That’s really nice.So overall, this is a serious unit of a very high quality — as it should be for the price. Make sure you like how Hue devices work in your home in terms of control before you commit. I’m still deciding what I want my main physical control or controls to be. But that’s always a bit of the trick for Hue. I’ll figure it out — and then I’ll be really happy with this. And even in the meantime, I still am very happy with i.t
