Money Well Spent
Itâs a great mattress with lovely finish, extremely comfortable. Iâm definitely happy with this investment. The “bonus”: the nicest, most efficient two men delivery crew. I donât know their names, but really appreciate not only the superb working ethics, but also most cordial, positive attitude that brightened our entire weekend. Thank you! I hope you get a good bonus, too!

Comfort!
Arrived well packaged, well protected. Having this after retiring the old traditional spring mattress really helped with aches and pains! No exaggeration

Excellent balance between support and comfort
This Perfect Sleeper X Kendall (13″ medium) mattress fits roughly in the middle of the Serta’s Perfect Sleeper line-up. The “X” series introduce a higher density, five-zone arrangement of pocketed springs (1,000 at queen size), with the top layers leveraging more traditional memory foam materials (as opposed to latex top layers in the Perfect Sleeper Pro collection). I was specifically interested in the five-zone spring layout, as I am a 240-lb combination sleeper, and usually find myself either sinking too deep on plus mattresses, or not being able to find a comfortable position on the ones in the firm category. The mattress was delivered by the Amazon delivery crew – I paid extra to get it unpacked and to have my old mattress recycled. If there was any factory smell, it faded quickly, and we did not notice it by the evening. The mattress is quite heavy, but it is not insanely thick (at just 13″). The top surface of this Kendall model is flat and covered with a somewhat stretchy fabric which incorporates heat-trapping microbeads for cooling effect. Memory foam layers are immediately below this fabric, so the memory foam behavior is not muted by a quilted layer you find on many traditional mattresses (for those who prefer quilted top or even a pillow top, Serta offers other Hybrid X models with those features). As a “level 1” model of Hybrid X, this mattress does not have an additional layer of micro-coils closer to the top, a feature available in level 2 line-up.The mattress is rated by Serta as “medium”; the initial impression was that it felt a bit toward the firm side, but after a couple of days of breaking in, the feel is definitely a medium firmness (I would probably rate it as 4.5 out of 10, with 1 being a rock, and 10 being a puffy pillow). The initial response is quite firm, but as memory foams settle, they contour nicely around your body, yet without causing you to sink too far. That’s the point where the springs take over and provide support. The 5-zone arrangement puts two bands of thicker coils in the lumbar and thigh area, and thinner / softer coils elsewhere. As your body settles into memory foam, the springs distribute the load across your entire body. When you lay on your back, there is a noticeable sense of support to your lumbar area.; in a side sleeping position softer coils under your shoulders and hips let the spine remain in a straight horizontal line. For a stomach sleeping position, the middle portion of your body remains level with the rest. For me as a rather large combination sleeper, this mattress checks all of the boxes; my wife is a 140lb side sleeper, and this mattress works great for her as well. Her initial impression was that this mattress was firmer than our previous “medium” traditional spring + foam mattress, but after a couple of nights the foam layers were broken in, and she found the 5-zone structure of support extremely effective as well. One minor oddity: one of the labels on our mattress identified it as a “quilted hybrid”, rather than just “hybrid”, but that was likely a minor mistake made at the factory.Overall, we are extremely happy with this mattress, and I would gladly recommend it.

Good after break-in
Our old mattress was starting to get an indent on my wife’s side so we wanted something with springs. This came in a thick plastic bag in a giant box. It’s really heavy so if you have the option for in room delivery it’s probably a good idea. The first night on the mattress was not great it was very firm. It was so stiff and I had to double check I got the plush model. We almost decided we made a mistake with the mattress but we wanted to try it for a week even after a bad night’s sleep. I’m happy to say after about three days it started to soften up and we didn’t wake up with aches. It’s been a few weeks now and it’s held it’s shape well even on the edges. The center and sides both have good support so no sagging right now.Overall I’m glad we stuck it out but it is a nice mattress at what seems to be a decent value for the features it has.

Supportive, cool-sleeping, good balance of comfort and firmness
This review is for the Kendall 13″ Medium Hybrid Mattress in King size. I have owned several king mattresses over the past ten years including traditional innerspring, all-foam, and hybrid, in various firmness levels. I chose the Medium because I felt that it offered the best combination of mattress size/weight and overall comfort. A Medium mattress tends to strike a balance between feeling like youâre sinking into a mattress (plush) and laying on top of a mattress (firm). Itâs preferable for people who sleep in a variety of different positions or might have a partner who sleeps differently than you do.This is not a compressed âmattress in a boxâ that requires you to roll it out and let it expand. This mattress ships in a ready-to-use state immediately upon arrival. Because it ships fully expanded, keep in mind itâs large and requires space to maneuver indoors. My initial impression of the mattressâ appearance was positive. It has a high-quality fit and finish with a flat, quilted top. I noticed no imperfections or manufacturing issues with stitching or material anywhere on the mattress. One thing I greatly appreciate is the addition of handles on both sides of the mattress. This greatly assists in moving and rotating the mattress. At 13 inches thick, all of our king-sized sheets and mattress protector fit easily. One thing to keep in mind when purchasing any new mattress is that they usually require a break-in period. The documentation included with the mattress mentions this. The mattress materials need some time to settle and conform to the ownerâs body. Thankfully, the mattress includes a very long trial period.Serta states that this type of mattress includes âzoned support,â meaning that the firmness of the springs varies in different sections of the mattress. For example, softer coils are used around the head/shoulders and hips, while firmer coils provide greater support to the midsection and knees. This allows the mattress to have a contouring feel to it, and itâs one of the reasons it appealed to me, as my wife and I both have chronic back problems. After a week of use, hereâs what Iâve observed. When I first lie down on the mattress, it feels rather firm. After about five minutes or so, I find my hips and shoulders being cradled down into the mattress. And, Iâve been sleeping soundly through the night. Based on my past experience with similar mattresses, I expect the feel to soften after more break-in time. Those who prefer a softer feel right from the start might consider a thin mattress pad on top of the mattress temporarily while it settles. There are two things about the sleep experience that Iâm very impressed by. First is that it sleeps cool. Being in the Deep South, most nights are rather warm, and I usually have an air conditioner and fan running. This mattress seems to have some kind of cooling layer in it that has greatly reduced our need for those cooling items. The other is motion isolation, or the extent to which you can feel when your partner shifts on the mattress. This doesnât have the same level of motion isolation as an all-foam mattress, but it gets closer than any other innerspring or hybrid mattress Iâve previously used. Thatâll definitely contribute to a better nightâs sleep.Overall, Iâm going to give this five stars, working with the assumption that the materials will eventually relax into a true âmediumâ feel mattress after a longer break-in period. Be sure to utilize the in-home sleep trial.
