About Swagman “Ride, paddle, explore: seek your adventure” That philosophy was the intention of founders Jim and Jan Morris who saw an opportunity to create a better way to transport your bike back in the early 90’s. Swagman was one of the first companies worldwide to design and market a hitch style bike rack. Over the years, that small bike rack company based in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia grew to include numerous other ground breaking designs in the North American Bicycle, RV and Automobile markets.
EASY TO ASSEMBLE: The STANDARD is easy to assemble with no tools required, sets up in just minutes following the instructions. Once assembled, simply load your bike and you are ready to go!
CONVENIENT: The upright roof top carrier, easily transports 1 bike while attaching to your roof rack. Fits square, round and oval bars up to 3″ wide
WORRY FREE SECURITY: Bikes are secured on the fork mount blocks. These blocks include 9mm Quick Release skewers that anchor your bikes to the rack.
VERSATILE: The solid & versatile design fits most vehicles types & sizes

Customers say

Customers find the bike rack to be a great value for money and appreciate its functionality, with one customer noting it performed spectacularly on a 600-mile trip. The rack is easy to mount on crossbars and holds bikes securely, with one customer mentioning their bikes stayed firmly mounted during a 2-hour trip. While some customers report the rack holds up well, others mention it will rust quickly. The sturdiness and fit receive mixed feedback, with some finding it solid while others describe it as flimsy, and some saying it fits great while others report it won’t fit.

    Rock-solid, good price
We bought two of these for a recent trip and found them easy-to-assemble, versatile and high-performing. Wind drag, buffeting of bikes and fuel economy were significantly better than with a previous back-of-car rack. The fork mounts were easy to operate and extremely secure; we drove 1100+ miles at speeds of 65-80 mph with no problems and minimal noise. Some hints for installation (and suggestions for the seller):(1) Slip a piece of hard rubber/plastic tube over each of the two U-bolts that go under the roof rack crossrail at the front of the bike rack; this cushions the point of contact against the crossrail and makes for better grip.(2) Pad the underside of the front bracket; we used a small, stiff piece of carpet with rubber backing placed between the bracket and the top of the crossrail. Again, this cushions and improves grip; without it, the edges of the steel bracket and center attachment bolts will notch and possibly even damage an extruded aluminum crossrail when everything is tightened.(3) Add lock washers between the two rear screw knobs and the flat bracket that they secure to the underside of the rear crossrail. This ensures that the knobs won’t fall off and get lost (which would happen if they were to become loose).Overall, this is a well-designed, economical and high-performing rack. Bravo!(Background: installed with 2018 VW Sportwagon, using OtheryaCargo 54″ crossrails).

    A good value
For the price, this is a very good rack. Although the tray is somewhat flimsy, that doesn’t make much of difference in the overall stability of the rack, since the clamp on the forks is so secure and sturdy. A big issue, however, is that the bolts that secure the front fork mounts are too long and can be driven through the factory roof rack damaging it. Also the platform on the which the fork mount is mounted is not solid metal, but stamped medal, and the edges also can dig into and damage the factory rack. I solved these issues by cutting a piece of plastic to insert into the fork mount bases (I had to drill holes in the plastic to accommodate the on the mounting platform) t and then adding a layer of rubber cut from an old floor mat between the fork mounting platform and the factory rack so that the bolts and the side of the mounting platform would not damage the factory roof rack. It was quite a bit of work to modify the rack that way, and its a bit unsightly, but it did solve the problem. would suggest that the manufacturer add apiece of plastic or rubber to go inside the front fork mounting plan to solve this problem.

    Solid Fork Mount Rack
I purchased 4 of these racks to mount on a 48″ crossbar. By the third assembly, I was getting efficient on how to put these together. I had trepidations of how the assembly would go since many reviewers complained about how difficult they are to put together and the poor instructions. I found them simple to put together and looked at the picture on the box for guidance. With that being said I can see how some people would struggle. You end up with extra U-bolts to accommodate different crossbars and for some people that might be confusing. You also have to guess on the location of the fork mount to the tire tray. One method that would help is to loosely assemble all the components and see if you like the location of the rear tire. You want the slot for the nylon strap to line up with the center point of the rear wheel. It’s not necessary, but it makes tightening down the rear wheel that much easier. If you struggle with changing your bike tire than putting this rack together will give you a challenge. The racks work great. They are flimsy in the tray portion, but that doesn’t matter since all the load is on the fork mount and that portion of the rack is sturdy. My only gripe is that the holes for U-bolts in the tray should be slightly larger. I can get them through, but the U-bolt has to be exactly perpendicular to the tray or it will bind.

    Phenomenal for the price
I needed these really just for a single trip this summer. Bike rack compatibility with the car I was using (Audi) is notoriously fickle, so these were some of the only ones that fit and didn’t cost a thousand bucks for a couple racks. The setup was fairly easy (the instructions are pretty bad, as others mentioned, but it’s not hard to figure it out from the illustrations), and they were seriously strong, tight and secure. We put two bikes/racks on the roof, and could easily have fit a third rack/bike on top of the car (and probably even a fourth). Really flexible design that looks like it will work with just about any car. But the real reason I like these is they’re cheap! I’m not buying a rack that costs more than my bikes! These are priced so well that it almost seems like there must be an issue with the quality, but these things feel bullet-proof and well built to me. Really glad I went with them.

value for money. Not for serious use and it cuts into your rack like other reviews mentioned but a fixable problem. Not easy to mount and dismount with all the bolts, nuts and washers.
